I came to the realization that we have really come a long way! I don't know why, but I'm just now fully realizing how much of a great game FFXIV 2.0 is! I can't wait for 2.2 and future updates!

Both have their pros and cons, the slower pace of 1.XX allowed for more skills per class/job than we have now, but they were on long timers (with no global cool down ones to my knowledge, I didn't play 1.XX much at all) and normal/auto attacks were more prevalent.Quote:

1.0 attack were slower but they were also not spamy.
I personally prefer the old battle system in that video. Fast does not = good in my books -

I do not miss combat, it was too slow for me, I did not feel a rhythm like you, I felt frustrated to have to wait so long to execute a skill.

Random skill gains to increase weapon rank was probably the worst offender of the lot, because it intentionally decreased leveling to something even slower than snail's pace (in before "omg i luv spending 10 hours to get only 5% of exp to next level!1!one"). The fact that you were expected to grind forever and a day for traits didn't help (guild marks for traits were RNG generated, and with leves being RNG generated as well you had RNG on top of RNG...), and the obvious lack of synergy between abilities didn't help.
I'll still argue that The Secret World did what Tanaka & Co. were trying to do with 1.0. It's a polished version of what we saw when the original FFXIV launched. -

Wow, I've gotta say, we've moved in the right direction lol. As much as I love the turned based FF games of the past, 1.0 battle system seemed so easy and none responsive, looks like you can be on the phone, watch tv and play at the same time without any problems. Can you imagine Titan extreme if you don't really need to move around and dodge and get your dps off at the same time. It's a lot better now imo.

I actually liked the battle system in 1.0 but looking back at it now it does seem a bit slow. I'd prefer to see something a little more between the two positions as I think the new system works better for some jobs than others. I prefer BLM how it is now for example but think MNK played better in 1.0 than 2.0, kinda think drg did too but not as much.
Overall 2.0 is a much much better game than 1.0, but there are one or two things I preferred the old way. -

I miss the maps of 1.XX. The multi layers of The Green Wood. The ability to potentially get lost in a map. It added a lot to the game that I loved.

I think the combat animations had more oompf in 1.0 than now. And that inertia.../cry. I remember way back when Rage of Halone had a like 10sec charge time, and any damage you took while charging RoH, made it stronger. RoH kinda sucks now, that animation is way too fast.
