Don't rename the current classes, make advanced jobs instead

Problem:

Yoshi-P stated they are considering to change the current class names into original final fantasy job names.

Issue:

Naming a gladiator into a paladin does not make it one. No current class really fits the profile of the canonical jobs.

Proposed solution:

Turn the classic jobs into advanced jobs with special requirements to be unlocked by making use of the Final Fantasy Tactics system.

Example:
While a GLD isn't a PLD, a GLA with CON gets pretty close. So lets say you unlock PALADIN when getting gladiator to 30 and conjurer to 20. Then you'd be able to level up paladin.
Marauder and thaumaturge give dark knight. Both conjurer and thaumaturge together could unlock both black and white mage and so on. I'm not going to impose my views on the requirements, that is for the development team to do.

Result:

Highly specialized jobs. Currently there isn't much difference between one and another. But picture you wanted to focus just on healing. A white mage would get buffs, healing spells and traits specifically suited for a healer. Also class specific gear would be a good idea which would enhance the job's role further (in this case whm only gear would help healing power or buff duration).

This would not only implement the classic jobs we all love, but it'd also give us players an objective to play for.

Yea great idea. FF tactics is probably the only ff system i know nothing about but from your posts it sounds amazing! I am also against renaming current classes.

thanks haha :D hope the devs are listening!

I read yoshi-p was between changing the job names and making them advanced classes in a recent interview too. So it doesn't seem to unreal to expect for this to be implemented!

While I don't mind this. I'd rather go with the paths or trees idea. At a certain point you could take Gladiator and spec it out like Pld with new pld specific abilities and stats that would reflect a heavier tank style. Or you could take Gld in a more warrior path. Then you could get AF or relic gear and what not that would benefit the path you chose. etc etc.

This. I don't want to have to level up classes I don't want to level up.

If you want something, WORK for it, and that means putting up with stuff you don't wanna put up with. Otherwise, whatever you "earn" is meaningless.

My response to those who don't want to level up: I don't want a bunch of squires calling themselves Ninja.

I am very much hoping that our White mage and Black mage will become two advanced jobs instead of inheriting the place of Con and Tha. The current jobs should only be basic jobs, determining one's weapon and abilities.

Please have an advanced job system similar to Tactics! Please have it very diverse (different methods/quests for accessing jobs). Have some simple ones (soilder, Monk). Have some hard ones (theif, Ninja). Please give us a couple 'secret jobs' and easter eggs (imp armor).
