Making gil is almost impossible on most servers

Every time I look on the market board these days I am reminded of our fail economy on Sargantas..... People always undercutting everything they can, people buying gil so they can get a house. It is every time the housing prices drop the prices on everything drops with it..... SE was supposed to drop the value of everything by a 10th and i know for a fact that is incorrect. In 1.0 I used to craft silver rings or bronze rings to an NPC for a profit (all of the mats were bought from an NPC also) now the same rings that I sold for 300-1200 each I'm getting 10-30 gil each.... that is way more than a 10th. SE has made all crafts useless all gathering useless and yet they make the housing prices insanely high..... So I would like to know from the community and SE "How are we supposed to make gil?" Are we supposed to sell runs like COILs runs or Titan runs to make gil, or does SE want as many people to buy gil so we can all get banned for it?

You still able to make some gils in this game, not much but that's good enough.

Sell ems or hms? That's the real commodity that's valuable atm, not crafted stuff.

A gil press is the worst thing for the economy. Thankfully they fixed that.

I'm still making gil, but not at any sort of impressive rate. I sort of tread water because I make some gil, then spend on it something frivolous. If I spent a little more time focused on making gil, I'd probably see my gil total increase a bit more.

And yet, I manage to make several hundred thousand gil a week with only a couple of hours work and knowing what sells well.
No, I'm not going to share my secret with you but crafting/gathering is far from useless.

Anyway, apart from repairs and teleports there is absolutely no need, at all to carry large amounts of gil around.
From that perspective, the game vomits gil at you with dailies, treasure hunts and dungeons, that alone is enough to sustain you and have gil left for other things.

Blame bots :| or either people making to much. I thought of this idea though Make a new character do leves i recommend something like crafting leves with 3/3 make hq stuff your gil gets doubled and just sell things on market place.
Buy on your alt, don't know if thats illegal or not but not like i'm botting just making alt and doing those things thought it help me to gain some gil and i do craft things on the side on my main sometime it will sit there for awhile until somebody wants to buy it.

Sense no one can read this line very well I guess I'll point it out to you. So therefor what does this line mean? Does it mean that if I can make 200 or 300k a week ill get a house in a year or 2? Pretty much what I am saying which after seeing the responses I have had more than likely 90% of you are ones that do this is that everytime the "housing" prices drop so does everything else. I was selling lvl 4 materia and now it is worthless because everyone else started doing it and lowered the hell out of the prices. Went from like 30k to 3k in a few days and is not going back up. And I will also say this, anyone that has an FC full of people that dont know how to make gil and they believe the same way all the repliers have and they have a large or medium house you proble had someone that bought gil to get your house... they did not fix anything when they went from 1.0 to 2.0.... they made the game look better and play better but at the same time they made everything easier to do. To bad we can't lose the item that we are melding too anymore. spending millions on 1 thing to get it melded and crap it broke so now i have to start all over on melds. stuff like that kept crafters and gathers making gil. also not everyone could craft and gather. it was harder to hq took longer to lvl and gathering was a pain. I lvled miner to 25 in 1.0 and fisher to 18.

Seconded. Know where to look. Identify any big players in your server's crafting community and manipulate your market. Buy out everyone and sell inflated.

Or even less involved than that, just look around. Things sell. I've almost single-handedly supplied my FC's current housing fund.

Another stupid thread. You are not buying a personal house, they are FC houses. They are not designed for an individual to afford. Also, I personally still turn roughly 1-1.5 mil a week on the market boards. You can only ride the same items for a very short time, people start to flood, then that item tanks. The trick is that when that happens the bot's stop farming other items and their prices go up. There are many, many profitable items on the market board and about 30% of my weekly income is from crafting so look around and be willing to put some effort in and you can make lots of money. If you don't want to put the effort in, sorry about your luck.

It's actually pretty impossible NOT to make gil on most servers.

Run dungeons, do your dailies, harvest treasure maps.

You don't need to sell high LV mats to make money either, sell cotton/flax/shards/etc.

People who want to power thru levels will buy them, even I do when I cbf to gather my own stuff. HQ mats sell quickly especially if you aren't price gouging. Don't expect a huge flow of Gil all at once, but an hour of harvesting can net you 10,000+ Gil if you do some research before spamming things into your retainer.

honestly just having a fee for listing would stop ppl from rechecking there posts every couple hours and undercutting the ppl that undercut them

I think the more accurate thing to say is that opportunities on the market has gone waaaay down to the point where its not very fun to participate because it takes far too long to find a market worth selling in. If theres a unit of transactions/day you'll probably find it to be very little.

I personally blame the devaluation of shards from Bots.

I blame it more on philosophy tomes being handed out like candy.

The best way to 'improve' profits from a top-down perspective is to simply increase the rate at which goods are destroyed. The best profits aren't being the only person to sell one item at pricegouge rates, but routinely sell goods at affordable rates.

- relieve certain bottlenecks of high-demand goods, such as fish catch rates for oils and foods.
- Improve potency of consumables. Make them more desirable.
- Increase consumption rates of ingredients in recipes that the AH has established as 'garbage' (less than 10 gil)
- Give dungeon gear a socket so they become a consumer in the materia lifecycle
- Boost effectiveness of elemental materia and raise stat caps
- Make endgame gear crafted, and not NPC gifted. Allow endgame crafters to be a part of endgame content.

No offense but I would recommend a lot of you to re-evaluate your approach to the market boards.

The markets have stabilized to fit what your server consumes. You need to take the time to analyze this if you really want to make an abnormal amount of gil. Anyone could make money off monopolized and high demand markets at the beginning of any MMO but it takes a true MMO merchant to continue to make money after easy-mode. It is not that the gil and market isn't there, its that the skill level required to play in the market has been bumped up quite a few notches. If you don't have the ability or aren't willing to obtain the ability to play the markets at the current skill level required, you won't make anything.

I'm making about 50k per day with very little effort. And since my FC has a house now, and all the jobs I care to level are already 50, there's nothing to really spend my money on so it adds up very fast. I was broke two weeks ago (after donating millions to the housing cause), and I have over one million again. I sell a lot on the MB, and buy almost nothing. I gather all my own mats so everything is 100% profit.

It's not hard, and certainly not impossible. It's just a matter of finding your niche, and changing it as needed. Last week I was doing ingots, this week I'm mostly fishing and making mats using fish. Next week I may go back to ingots, might stick with fishing, or could do something totally different. Prices fluctuate. Cloths and Leathers took a dive a few weeks ago, but they may yet rebound, like ingots did. So I always keep an eye on the MB to see what's selling and for how much.

Making gil is still possible.

For DOL materials, look for items that sell in excess of shard costs. Shard costs are your threshhold for what is trash and what may be worth time to sell. Keep an eye on sale histories to get an idea of how much is selling per hour/day, in what quantities, at what average cost. If an item is selling at 25 gil or up, it may well be worth the trouble to put something up for sale (around 2.5k for a stack). Don't put up more than one stack of an item up per day, or you will create an artificial ceiling and crash the market.

For DOH goods, level 50 two star items are a 'one a week' sale. There are a lot of high-end crafters, and you can expect anywhere from 0-4 items to sell per day total. Fierce or aggressive competition will only cost you a lot of gil trying to undercut one another. Items that tend to sell better are HQ items used to turn in leves for lazy crafters seeking to pay their way to L50. There a healthy variety of items to be made, and if you price reasonably, you can cut a fair profit while putting out prices that lure prospective buyers to take that route. Remember, you want it to make it worth not just your while, but theirs as well.

Most of the rest, particularly low value 'trash' and low value items in small quantities, are probably best vendorized or otherwise taken out of circulation. High value items, of course, by all means, toss them on the market; eg two-star philo ingredients, maps or TH drops, and rare dungeon drops such as Fine Wax or Amdapori stones.

Materia will always sell, regardless~ even those element resist lvl1 materia will sell because they are cheap and you'd rather not waste a good materia on something you intend to convert tbh.

The worst market, right now, is the two star market. With philo being fully deprecated in 48 hours, people by the weekend are going to start the easy road to the i90 Myth gear rather than waste time or money on i70 goods. I fully expect a 'three star i90' set of recipes to exist, requiring "Myth" (which is really just philo-grade) ingredients to set i90 as the new 50 base level

ilvl 55 gear is still good for soulbinding for all classes, and we may see base materials spike in price over the weekend while crafters scramble to identify the difficulty curve of i90 crafting.

The biggest money will be in prisms for the next two weeks at most before the market settles.

So you move to a different set of items on the market~

last week was making Vintage HQ Kite Shields because the cost/profit was amazing. less than 500 for the materials (Mahogany+Aldgoat leather bought, siltstone mined myself) turned into 10k+ in profit.

You can't tell me that I was the only person who noticed that because now "My" market is selling at 3.9k~ so I'm materia selling now until there's another major fluctuation.

This ^ All of this, research your MB see whats selling, check again see how often its selling, craft a bit sell your goodies rinse and repeat :) a little effort goes a long way.

That's the problem, while people are perfectly capable to, they don't want to think for themselves.
They want to have others do the thinking for them, they want to be told, to the letter, what to do and how to do it because if it doesn't lead to instant results they can always point their fingers to other people.

in all fairness though the markets are dictated buy the type of server if theres a lot of farmers craters etc the prices are dirty cheap forcing you to make lower and less profit than others hence you might make 200k others might be lucky making 50k with just the same amount of time spent crafting gathering etc!!!

Low level crafting materia sells for 100-500 gil, and it's not a "reliable rate" when it costs more to repair the darn items before the SB is 100%.

Higher level materia (IV) sells for 20k-30k but they don't move fast since once people get their set level 50 set finished they are done. They have no reason to buy materia ever again. And the people who need the materia are capable of making their own HQ gear to convert into materia.

Also. Telling me to "Stfu" or "gtfo" because you're embarrassed for getting called out? Weak.

...it wasn't even until recently that new chara restrictions on legacy servers got removed.

You want to have the BiS, because that's a personal goal of yours to have. But it's not 100% necessary.

And end-game raiding? I've been part of progression guilds in WoW. It's all the same. If you honestly believe you need to have as much HP as possible to clear a dungeon and are going to fret over a minor stat boost, you are too serious. FFXIV encounter design is focused on learning a boss pattern and having a full party. With or without overmelded VIT gear you will end up dying the same until everyone learns the boss strategy.

You act like this is such serious business, but it's a videogame. You're supposed to win. The game is designed to allow you to win. Get over yourself.

That or all he's done is run it as PLD and decided he had no reason to care about the HP of anyone who wasn't him. He doesn't have the "cleared turn 5" achievement, though, so it could go either way.

I raid as PLD, and I understand how Fireball/Waxen Flesh works because it directly affects me on how likely a Conflagration blows up and thus increasing the chance I get killed. Good tanks will try to understand all mechanics of a fight, even if they aren't responsible for it.
