i dont think they should be reported. they play a game that they pay for, why can't they name a fc whatever they want? unless its against the ToS or something.
Now I'm trying to think of any FCs with an offensive name on our server...
But anyway, afaik, you can change the FC name at any time. The most you can do is report them, or contact the FC leader and address it with them. Hopefully you get a quick response, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Very simple:
this is taken from esrb.org
TEEN: Content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling and/or infrequent use of strong language.
MATURE: Content is generally suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
This game is rated teen and sexual names should be forced to be changed if it offends someone.
I am sorry but this is plain wrong. How they run their FC is entirely up to them. However, the name of a FC DOES in fact affect players NOT in that FC, since they can see the FC name. It is no different to a player name being offensive. It should be reported and forcibly changed.
I thought most MMOs have a clause in their rating that says it is variable because you're dealing with an online environment where you could be subjected to a whole host of things the dev didn't intend. That said, I usually don't care at all what people choose to call themselves or their FCs... if you want to pay monthly and have a ridiculous name, that's your business.
Ugh grow up. If it's not something racist or bigotry get over it.
People will cry about anything and this thread is proof.
I shouldn't have to see an FC called something that rhymes with "punt" and is a vulgar slang for female genitals.
The ESRB does not rate online interaction. FC names are part of the online interaction. The ESRB will only rate what is hard coded into the game, so the actual game play as made by Square Enix is the only thing with a Teen Rating. Everything else when dealing with online players is to be treated as an M rating to the very least as content created by characters, unless directly insulting, cannot be held against the ESRB or company.
Considering we're from the same Server, I'd like to try and find which FC you seem to dislike due to name sake.
Also as an FC leader I haven't seen any way to rename FC's. I can take a look, but I don't know if there is a way other than disbanding the FC and starting over.
See right above. I don't think there is a way for the owner to change from what I have personally seen as an FC leader.
Another bump to first quote. Also YAY more cactaur peoples!
It's SE's fault for not putting a filter when creating Free Companies.
SE will probably do something about it, if they can. There was a guy in my LS with a last name that had a clearly sexual connotation (not going to say it), and as you all know, LS names show up in the order they join. One day, I noticed the guy's last name had changed to something similar, but less offensive. His first name was still the same. So, SE likely forced him to change his name without much penalty. I'm not sure if the functionality exists for them to change FC names, but I can only imagine so. You can already change your little acronym at will.
Do offensive names bother me? Nope. I'm a pretty unoffendable person. This is the internet, after all. You can't survive without a thick set of skin.
Buuuuuut, this game is 13+. They even offer a profanity filter if you choose to use one. I think adults can be more creative than using profane names. That's just my opinion. That said, I've never reported a bad name. However, I've never seen a bad name stay for very long. Someone else always reports it.
I was playing an alt on a different server one day when I got blind invited to a FC whose name was, basically, the N word. That name I found offensive.
And another thing, there is also no such thing as freedom of speech on a multiplayer online game. Im sorry but you must adhere to rules and conditions of use - which you AGREED to when you installed the game. By the simple fact that you cannot post on this forum without having agreed to those exact same rules, you DO NOT have the right to say whatever you please. At any time at SE's choosing, if you break the rules regarding chat, names or titles - SE has the power to mute you, block you, ban you or otherwise remove you from their service. You have no ''rights'' for speech or naming conventions when you use a service.
I knew exactly what you meant and it's still not. If stuff like that is enough to "offend" you, then please get off the internet fast.
They could like to do that with homosexual males, now you're telling them that they can't express their preference because it "offends" you.
Don't be that guy
It means a bundle of sticks ._.
Then if you look at the second definition of it, it means "homosexual male" I know homosexual males that call themselves that word. A lot actually, I figured it was like the "N" word now. I don't use that word and don't like to be called that word, if someone else calls other people, themselves,FC,LS,Guild that. It doesn't bother me because....I'm an adult that knows there's worse things in life than a fc with a naughty word in their fc name. o:
Its like the N word. That word used to be really bad ( I personally still think the use of it, is stupid but whatever) now it means "homie" or whatever. White, Black, Asian, everyone says it.
I can't count all the gay guys I know that use the word in a non derogatory way. The way words are used changes all the time, the word isn't as offensive as OP is trying to make. It's just a word, who cares? If one little world is enough to ruin gameplay and come whine about it on the forums. I'd say OP has a pretty good life.
If you don't care so much, why are you even here? You are defeating your own point by giving me attention. If anything, you are helping me by bumping my post, lol.
You have just wasted effort for no good value. Rather than talk calmly and present a PoV that might change someones mind, you charged into the thread brazenly. I can bunt heads with you for hours to come, but obviously we have diametrically opposed opinions. I rather just save my time (and yours) and just move on.
If your opinion was any more valid than mine, it would be much more main stream for the "sue happy" to be told to "grow a thicker skin." Since the PC culture is way more prevalent than your sort of thought of inflammatory language, I will take solace in the fact my belief in what is offensive is going to be around for a long time and shared by many others.
Either way, thanks for the bumps ;)
While it isn't the worst thing in the world and any derogatory word isn't inherently derogatory (context is important, after all), you can't account for how sensitive someone is to what words. You wouldn't tell a rape victim to "get over it" and call them names just expecting them to be cool with it. A white person doesn't just go up to any random black person and call them the N word, expecting them to be cool with it. A straight person doesn't go up to any random gay person and call them a bundle of sticks, expecting them to be cool with it. Skin can only be so thick - if the knife can cut it, you'll still bleed.
Hee, this topic again. I still don't understand why there are so many "it's the internet" and "whiner" posts. It's SE's brand and they have a ToS. This won't be the first ARR forced name change and it won't be the last. For those that missed the threads where a rep responded, they don't say "grow a thicker skin" or whatever.
We need more FCs that quote lines of NPC dialogue from the game, such as Deadwhorescrotch and Thalsballs.
I'm black, can't count all the times I've been called the n word with the er on the end of it by some white person and I'm told daily to get over slavery. Not to mention all the racist remarks on this forum towards Americans. Yet some how random people who have no effect on my life what so ever, saying bad words, isn't enough to get my underwear in a knot and go on forums whining about it.
You're right we can't account for how sensitive someone is to words but they can't expect everyone to change what they say/do/whatever because it "offends" them. Being offended doesn't make you special or automatically right.
Like almost all threads, Making a storm in a glass of water is a common occurrence in this OF for FFXIV- OP ask if you can report a Free Company for expressing themselves in a vulgar or offensive way as like making up a name for yourself in-game that could possibly offend someone else or ruin their enjoyment of the game.
Let's not go off track and take the subject out of context.
My answer to the OP is yes you can but it's up to SE to determine if there's a case to change the 'said name'. Words are words and even words in English can offend someone of another culture and you don't even know it.
My advice is to ask around, do a little research and expect the unexpected. Good day all!
:)
So the only way to help a rape victim is by actively reminding them they were raped by tiptoeing around the subject. Maybe if they just accept it and move on it wouldn't be such a big deal. Kinda like when you're little and you scratch your knee, you only start freaking out when someone else freaks out about it. Of course you can't compare being raped to something as trivial as a scratch but the psychological principal behind it is all the same. Funny how people always use the rape victim as their go-to.
Have you even TRIED messaging the FC leader about your concerns? I mean *some* of the people who make some FC names are pretty ignorant - I mean for ex I've seen things like "Cream Pie" and they didn't know the sexual term for that one. They really didn't. lol
