Medica/Medica II/Cure III/Succor Radius Indicator

My apologies if I'm putting this in the wrong place; this is my first forum post and this section seemed appropriate. (And if this has been mentioned; why hasn't this been added yet!?)

I'd like to see a simple circle around my character (or the target in the case of Cure III) that covers the effect radius, perhaps a light green ring.

As these skills only affect party members it would make sense that only party members could see it. Please, Square Enix! If we have to remind people to stay close enough constantly, it'll only stress us out, as its unfair to put that responsibility on the healer (cast times, MP on repeated uses, threats from the enemy; all things that we have to consider).

How would you see this working? Would it only happen when you hover-over the skill on your bar, or would it be a case that you had to use the ability then click on the floor to cast it? Because I feel like the former would slow us down in healing, and the latter would potentially need the abilities to be changed quite a bit (from around-the-healer to floor indicator based.)

I honestly feel like after playing as a healer for a little while you get used to the ranges, and if your teammates are choosing to stand too far away from you to benefit from AoE heals, that's really their responsibility, not yours.

It's not a bad idea, I just don't know how it would really benefit us.

Perhaps a green spell circle could appear under the healer (or under the target in the case of a Cure III) while the spell is being cast.

Sirantha: No need to change anything; the ring would simply appear around the healer or target (Cure III) during the spell's cast time. This will help the group stay a little more synchronized, as people are often moving during fights to avoid aoes, etc.

I can see how that would work! Only problem would be people still standing outside the indicator, but to be honest again, that's their problem, not the healer's.

Honestly, adding this feature means I get to yell at everyone and feel justified, lol! I personally feel having this would improve a party's performance. And you're 100% correct; ignoring your own position in relation to the healer's is the player's responsibility; this will simply make it easier to manage.

Sometimes you do need a stick to beat people with, haha. Okay, I can see how this would be helpful. I don't think it's necessary, but I can see how it would potentially improve performance, for example if your DPS doesn't realise they're out of range and the healer doesn't have time to move.

Agreed. Not totally necessary, but is something that I think can only be beneficial. And I've mained Healer since September and recently picked up BLM, both situations can happen quite easily during HM primals (haven't touched EX, not sure if I'm looking forward to doing so.)

Oh, and I remembered the reason for changing mob AoE colors was to improve playability for colorblind players; so perhaps the healing ring could be a blue color instead of green.

I have tried Garuda EX, never finished though (got to last phase before we lost a member or two) -- I don't think it would be super useful in Garuda EX, but maybe in the other EX? I can definitely see its use in HM, and also maybe in Coil even to some extent. Unfortunately Swiftcast would ignore the healing ring (because its shown during casting). Personally Swiftcast is always saved for emergency raise for me. If I NEEd fast healing I'll dig out the ol' Presence of Mind, lol. :)

To be honest I think the last thing this game needs is more colored circles on the ground, but I could see this being useful if it were only visible to the casting healer (and toggle-able).

Almost every MMO I've played has these kinds of centered-on-player AoE healing spells, and none of them have any indicator for them (except Wildstar I guess, which also happens to be an example of a game with way too many shapes on the ground). It's just one of those things you get a feel for after playing the game for a while.

I think being able to toggle this display would solve any issues! And if you ask me there aren't a lot of colored circles; we all see enemy aoe ranges; and our own floor-target shapes. Why would a simple blue-green ring around a caster prove too much?

It would totally be a nice touch but well tuned or even averagely tuned players have this range down pat by now....don't they?????? I am good with this either way. When you have schizo players running around with their heads cut off this would remind them that they are going to miss their heal if they do not get their butts back to the healers range.

Hehe, I had to LoL at the last part! And yes, many well-tuned players are able to stick around for heals; but sometimes things get a little hectic, especially when AoEs are tossed around. To sum up so far:

* Its a relatively simple addition (I believe) that can only benefit; and this is something that can easily be toggled off (whether you see the ring or not).
* For those who just hit Lv50, 8-man content is new and often intimidating (I fumbled over my controller during my first Titan HM as a healer! >_< ) This visual will greatly assist players new to 8-man parties.
* Turquoise-colored so its color-blind friendly (OR, perhaps color-coded to the skill? Pink for Med I / II, Blue for Cure III, Yellow for Succor?) Okay, that's a new suggestion, not a summary, lol. (I'm rambling at this point, forgive me.)

I like the idea, but don't mind if it's not implemented. It's one thing DPS have to be aware of. If I notice I'm getting too far from the healer I'll make sure to stick a bit closer. Knowing where your teammates are is important.

I'd like this. And I'd like it to be party visible at that. That way I can make the healers job that much easier not to mention it would mean I can run in there when I see them casting it.

I'd put it like a VR ring around not a ground aoe.

I think this is a fantastic suggestion! It would apply only during casting for all beneficial effects that have an AOE. Include Ballad. This helps the party know that it's being cast and what the range is. It disappears after casting is complete so doesn't clutter up the battle field (even when still in effect, such as for the ballad).

No thanks. Part of the skill of a AOE healer is to be able to approximate and position yourself to maximize. For Cure III you need to advise people to hug you since it's so small circles would be useless anyways. It's more on the healee's part to not stray away from your range imo so it forces you to communicate.

Waeksyn - I think a radius for Bard songs could be implemented, too (showing around them perhaps).

Kako0404 - Sure, a healer can position themselves, but can other party members do the same? There are fights like Ultima HM where people tend to scatter (lasers). Sometimes the healer is advised to stand in one spot and use Med. We can't be held accountable for other players that ignore the healer's position because they're engaged in avoiding damage. Again, one point of this feature is the ability to toggle it off.

Vivi_Bushido - A debuff for Cure might not be as useful as the range on Cure / Cure II is much greater than the Med/Succ skills. There are lots of buffs/debuffs during fights and that might add to the clutter.

For Ultima, I don't recall ever having issues with that. Our priority is healing the tanks and range DPS shouldn't get hit by anything other than Tank Purge so if he doesn't get a Medica it's not the end of the world. Healers are not accountable for every player going out of range if you are in position to keep the tanks alive. This game is too dumbed down that the last thing we need is another helping hand.

Its a good idea, I like it. But, wouldn't cry if it wasn't implemented....but agree; I know my range pretty well now and can tell if I'm gonna miss someone. I can try and mitigate (with a movement near the end of the cast) in their direction if need be etc.

I once entered a dungie through DF for laughs and got 3 persons all new to it. They admitted straight up, so I thought: Cool. I'll try help and we will sure have some fun
I can't remember which it was, or what boss, all I recall was the momment.....
Me and the DPS all getting a bashing, but close together, so I start my Medica cast. Damage is coming, but I got my DS up and know we will be alright, but they panic and run away. But......the DPS run in complete different directions! My cast goes off. Misses them all. lol. Yeah, I'll just Medica myself! Whup!

If we had the circle of healing showing, they could at least have noticed and ran back inside the" love circle"...but as it was they paniced and ran for the hills.......oh, how I laughed. Wish I could have recorded it

@Shmunkster; That sounds like it deserved a chuckle there; not to make fun of the new players; just the situation itself. And there, new players may not be used to these things, and some players don't start as Conjurer and aren't familiar with Medica ranges. This system would at least help players who aren't WHMs get used to it as they go through the games.

The recurring theme seems to be 'It'd be nice, but not needed'. I'd say implement it; its an easy fix and a toggle feature would make everyone happy.
