I have a friend that skips ALL the cut scenes. Is he insane ?

My friend has not watched one cutscene since buying the game. HE Doesn't know what the name of the planet is. he doesn't know what a primal is.. or who the bad guys are.

He just kills. kills.. kills.. waits for more targets to kill.

I try to talk to him about certain scenes. and he has no idea what Im talking about..


Does anyone else actually do this ? is

I skip most cutscenes and I'm no worse off for it. People enjoy different things in game.

It's okay. Some players just aren't interested in that stuff.

I skipped most of WHM and SCH scenes since those jobs don't appeal to me. I completed the jobs just to have them complete.

Edit: If all cut scenes were voiced over I wouldn't skip a single one. ^^

Considering the story in this game is very 'meh', I don't blame him.

But don't people play Final fantasy FOR the story ??

Someone who used to play with me skipped all the scenes. It is sad because the story is very interesting and has many unfinished threads to speculate about. Knowing the world and characters adds to the enjoyment.

I agree but I am a FF fan who has played all the games and we love the stories of these games. Perhaps general rpg players who don't know the rich history of the series are coming in with less expectations about it and don't care about things like bahamut and gilgamesh which we fans are excited about.

I watch all of the cutscenes at least once. They can all be watched later on from the book in the inn room. I use that to get cutscene screenshots in different outfits.

I tried to start a thread before about how representative the forums are of the player base as a whole but, other than saying only 3-5% of players will be in the forums, there wasn't really anything about what *types* of players are more likely to be represented in the forums. It could be 97% of the players watch all the cutscenes .. but they are the 97% not looking at the forums.

I skip them and watch them later as I don't want to interrupt the flow of the battle and force my team to wait. But if someone else wants to watch them I have no problem with them doing it.

Simple answer, yes. Absolutely mad!

But I do understand the complaints that the story is rather weak, since it is. With that said, it's still worth reading the texts the first time you do a quest/dungeon. This isn't just an action game...

I grew up with Final Fantasy games so naturally I want to have an attachment to the story and world of the game I'm playing. That's why it's been hard for me to get into other MMOs because most of them don't have established lore and it takes really good writing and an interesting world to hold my attention.

I got the game last Tuesday, and made it my goal to get level 45 for this Lightning event. (This is prior to my knowledge of what to do for fast experience, or how long the event was actually running... in hindsight, this would have been easy to accomplish, but, I'm still technically a noob!)
That being said, I've blasted through every single scene so far. I'd like to have the knowledge of the story, but I need Lightning's gear solidified first.

Game's storyline and cut-scenes are bland and boring, so you don't miss much.

I'm kinda upset they put so many main quests in. Clicking to skip all the chat is annoying.
Wish there was a skip npc chat + skip cut-scenes option.

meaning they just to it to brag about how great they are (when they probably don't even deserve what little they have)

they also tend to be the same people that complain about the game being too short with boring end game content since there's nothing more to do after they beat the last boss.

by the way I also tend to pay little attention to the CS and the text at the missions. just enough to know what the hell is happening around me. so I can understand that some people may do their best to skip any and all CS and go for the fighting action even if that ruins what tends to be a good story that some people though with effort and the hope we enjoy it.

I'm not that interested in the crying of each and every NPC about how the mobs are ruining their crops (or whatever other excuse there is to ask an adventurer to do something) but not paying any attention to the main story, to me, feels like an insult to those that spent their time working on it.

of course this is my personal opinion and I'm probably more insane that the friend of the OP. I go as far as reading the guides at gamefaqs of games with a good story that I will never play (be it because it's not the kind of game I like to play or because I don't have enough time to do it)

It's probably pretty common for modern players to skip cut scenes to get right to the action. People invest in a game in different ways, I love lore and story while others just want new shinies. If everyone is having fun then no need to fault either side.

Eh I watched all the cutscenes and got all the story. This aint swtor i'll say

I haven't watched a single cutscene or read any of the story either... don't really care for it.

Even as a FF fan the story is pretty much 98% trash, nothing I haven't seen a thousand times before. If it's getting in the way of the actual fun parts of the game, the gameplay, sense of progression etc. then yah i'm going to skip it.

I do like the style of the NPC dialogue for the most part.

You have to be careful, some Cutscenes are not in the INN.
Special the scenes with ascians... currently noticed the one after EX primals.
I hope SE will fix that in one of the next patches and really add ALL scenes.
I havnt anything against a secund Kindom Hearts or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles with the "memory" issue, but please tell us before!

i tried i really tried, however nothing really got me to watch them, before i knew it my fingers already navigating towards the skip button. So i still have no idea what the story is about or anything, i just know ok bad guy kidnapped some people, heroes must defeat bad guys or something like that, etc.

I for one enjoyed the story and look forward for more of it.

They know there is a story right? It is a mmoRPG. The stories play a big role in the overall feel of the game. Trying to make an emotional connection with the gamer to the game's world and inhabitants.

Skipping the CS is kinda anti-social. You are basically saying that you do not care for what they have to say or even what happens to the people. So then it begs the question. Why bother with an RPG at all? All they want is ... gear/max level as fast as possible with all other things be damned?

Why do I get the feeling they role DPS, hit max iLevel. Then complain that their is nothing to do...

In my opinion, people who skip all the cut scenes and don't know anything about the game's story and lore are heretics... (okay maybe not heretics but I think they are missing an important part of the game and their game experience is very shallow and empty)

I've watched every single cut scene and read every single line of text and I've actually enjoyed it all. I don't think the story is weak and I'm looking forward to more of it being added in the future.

I'm a FF fan myself (i own every single one since IX, and the rest i play on ISO), and i don't think i've watched any cutscenes. And you can't measure who is or isnt (or who is bigger than others) a fan from the game just because of the story. There are many ways to enjoy a FF game. Combat, Environment, Story, etc. And for me personally combat is the way i enjoy the game the most (although target, keybord smash and move to the side sometimes, isnt the best type of combat for me IMO). And like some previous people said, you can always go to the inn and watch every single cutscenes on the journey book.

Gotta remember, the forums reflect a real minor part of the population. On topic I watch the cutscenes, as does everyone I know that plays. At least the main story ones, some class/job quests aren't worth it. But I usually start paying attention for the level 40-50 ones when an actual story develops usually. I think story is pretty well done for an MORPG, still feels like a FF.

You mean it is MMOrpg? Played few offline FFs, stories felt lively and emotional, compared to them ARR feels like... hmm... filler? Yet to see good and engaging mmo storyline.

It is MMO, people usually play it to socialise with each other(aka real people), raid dungeons and not to care about random faceless npcs... even less if plot is crap.

Even if you read every word at best you extend gameplay time by one freaking day. Changes nothing.

When I first started playing ARR a few weeks ago (after being end-game in 1.0) - I went into it thinking I'd watch everything. Then they made me do 500 main story line quests (more than 65% of which were irrelevant nonsense) so at this point I just decided to skip everything. If they made the main scenario just missions that actually mattered (not: hey, talk to this guy, this guy, this guy, all two feet away from me, and report back; or: go kill 3 bunnies), I probably would have read/watched it all.

if you take away all the story in the game, what would be left, would be really boring.
actually there wouldnt be any game remaining, since everything in the game, is tied to the story.
so why are these ppl playing? just to kill stuff, and get better gear, to kill other stuff?
it's like virtual barbie, for guys. dress your kitty, in new prettier dresses. Show your friends how glamorous you look. Strike a pose, make them Otaku nose-bleed.

So anyways, yes your friend is insane :)

Change main storyline to Hildibrand the magnificent detective, it's funny. Warrior of light can become 2nd sidekick of Hildibrand.

In this game? No. 90% of the games I play I watch the cut scenes but this game just became a chore. Some of the primals can be cool to watch the first time but that's it.

Nope - Most people who play MMOs skip quest dialog and cutscenes, hell even Square Enix skipped through dialog when they were showing off alpha and beta footage. If they did to "prevent spoilers" or "save time" they wouldn't have talked to the NPC in the first place.

I watched every cut scene in the game.

The story in ARR is less bad than in other Final Fantasy games.

OMG I am seriously shocked. I watch the cutscenes, I want to know the story, I want to feel like I am part of the world. The thing I hate most about this game is all the zones and invisible walls everywhere and everyone wanting to teleport everywhere and skip the cutscenes and just rush through it.

I understand everyone has different playstyles, and I find no fault if thats the way you wanna play, but I must ask, to all the people that just skip the cut scenes and dont read the text and have no idea what the story is; do you guys typically play FPS games?

Hildibrand storyline is the best. I want more so amusing. The actual storyline ho hum. SWTOR's storyline was so good too bad gameplay was not as good.

I don't understand why anyone would want to play a completely de-contextualised game, but to each their own, I suppose.

It's not like the story is that well written, all they're really missing are dungeon intros and some others which they could rewatch if they wanted.
