Suggestion: Change the accuracy stat so it isn't such a strong requirement for raids

The current situation with accuracy is the same situation I have seen in every other MMORPG that does this: At end game, the player must hit the accuracy cap for his class or he simply can't do end game raid encounters past the front door. The importance of accuracy actually exceeds that of ilvl for turn 4 and 5, with tanks that have clearly superior ilvl being out-tanked by those with inferior gear.

It also doesn't add anything fun to combat, since we're just doing a bunch of mental math while looking up charts that have been created by players who reverse engineer the formulas behind the statistics. The small statistical boosts we get on individual items and the difficulty in acquiring said items means that even if we could change our gear up as a tactical choice to give ourselves an advantage in a specific encounter, it is unlikely that we will have that gear for months. So instead of making interesting choices involving our gear, we just choose the middle road, "best for everything" set.

It is clear from playing the game that the stats are not designed with the idea of tactical choice, yet it has these different stats which are a carry over from when equipment was a tactical choice. In that regard, I think end game would be better if they stopped focusing on gear and more on class/job abilities. Equipping a vortex ring of casting over a darklight ring of casting doesn't change my gameplay experience, but having to use my spells creatively does.

If you don't have that requirement then what the hell do we still even do with accuracy? Might as well just remove the entire stat altogether.

Well, it's kind of an odd situation. Accuracy just makes sure you don't miss. It isn't related to having your moves blocked, parried, or dodged. As a result, it would make more sense to have accuracy be something entirely separate from the stats on a player's gear. Your skill with a weapon can certainly effect a player's ability land attacks, which would be represented by class level. Effects like murky fog or blindness would also lower your accuracy as well as distance from your target.

But you see, most of the above examples actually add tactical choices to the game, whereas a raw accuracy stat doesn't do that. It also mucks things up a bit in end game gear as I mentioned earlier.

I haven't played it but isn't this something GW2 attempt to work towards? Did it work?

Not opposed to the accuracy per say, but the way they've balanced it is a bit silly.. and as the OP said it mostly impacts turn 4 and 5, where gear sets that great for everything else end up being crap only for those fights because the ACC is so skewed compared to what is on gear and what other fights require.

There's a very easy solution for the accuracy problem.
Put accuracy in the same slots for every set of gear.

ATM there are gear sets, namely Allagan, that somehow have very low accuracy. For some classes, the Allagan and Myth sets have slots that have accuracy in one set but not the other... Sometimes that goes for the entire set! So you either need Full Allagan, or Full Myth... otherwise you are either way below the acc cap, or way above it.

So lets just make certain slots always have accuracy. Hell, lets make the gear for those specific slots have a higher stat pool so we can just throw accuracy on it!

Lets say: Head, Gloves, Boots, Neck and Rings, ALL HAVE ACCURACY.
That is 6 pieces that you need to hit the acc cap. Now lets add some reward to it. Make 2 versions of neck and ring drops, one with and one without accuracy.

So lets say we need 100 accuracy over the base value for T5.
The DL items for head/gloves/boots/neck/rings will all have 17 accuracy, for a total of 102.
I90 items for those same slots will have 21 accuracy... Now you can equip FIVE (down from 6) items to reach the base+100 cap.
Once you've done this, you can change your 6th accuracy piece for one of the non-accuracy necks or rings.

New content comes out? Put on all 6 of your I90 accuracy pieces, you now have 126 acc. And hopefully that will be enough for the new tier, if not, use some food, and get new accuracy pieces once they are available.

With this kind of system in place, you can equip whatever I90 you want. Myth, Allagan, EX drops, whatever! Just use enough of the predetermined accuracy pieces and have at it.

Accuracy is the most important thing due to the way this game's battle system works.

Arbitrary accuracy requirements that result in RNG misses is "difficulty" to you? Scoring crits must require lots of skill too.

You sure wear your hat more skillfully than everyone else.

They definitely shouldn't remove accuracy from the content requirements. Every game has had a +hit% stat, this game should be no different; However, the developers need to get off their horse and actually put in a calculation that shows just how much accuracy is adding to the hit %, and what the approximate requirement for hit is in raid environments (and world bosses).

What i mean, is this...
Take other mmorpg's that run in a similar style to XIV. They have Normal mobs, and then enemies that they classify as Elite and then Raid Boss; These games also have a base percentage in which your attacks will miss them. Games like WoW have the raid bosses possessing a natural -8% hit calculation, so to actually hit that boss regularly you will need to make sure that your rating equals out to +8% hit, they also have stats like expertise to counter the parry/dodge chance of the boss but i don't think XIV has an equivalent stat to that.

This gives most players something to shoot for in the stat, they know that they can stop stacking accuracy gear at 8%, or if they are lacking in accuracy the player knows that they need to alter their gear and/or gems to get that 8%; Rather than just stacking +hit until they think they're good.

Though, the devs have responded to this, basically telling customers that they're not going to give information on just how much the stat is doing for you.. 'cause who needs to know if they're wasting materia slots or stacking too much of a stat and making anything above X rating worthless. I guess we'll have to depend on trial and error, rumours and woo-woo to know how much of our stat is actually being useful to us; 'Cause y'know, that's good design.

I don't want the accuracy requirement altered since IMO the more stats we're required to balance the better, especially for endgame/progression. Our gear choices are already lackluster, If accuracy gets nerfed XIV will sink even farther in to the 'wear whatever has the highest main stat' hole.

What needs to be changed is players insisting that capping accuracy for raids is a must.
You're gimping your own DPS just to make sure you hit 100%, when almost nothing actually requires that you are at 100% hit rate.
Maybe Allagan gear don't have highest accuracy for all slots because it's simply not required?

LOL! I was going to say the same thing! The gear stats have been massively simplified already, but hey . . . lets just make all the gear stats the same. Why not remove all gear stats. All i90 the same. All i95 the same. I don't want to have to try hard or think at all.

Accuracy is the most desired stat until its capped to remove variance so you don't wipe from something entirely avoidable like getting a miss streak on a conflag. It's same reason you were a bad player trying to do raids in WoW without being crit capped on defense. It's one of those stats that has no purpose other than to be there because it can.

Disagree.
I'm not going to take a chance on missing HV as a PLD, same goes for our BRD.
Our BLMs went in to T4 with low acc a few times and it caused problems because missing B3 can put you OOM, force you to transpose and completely cripple your rotation/DPS.
