New persons thoughts...

First and foremost, the lvl 40 requirement to post is beyond BS...in my opinion. 20 I could see, 15 would be ideal! How else is a new person to ask questions in a thread they can't create to draw attention to it?

But that not this communities fault, so I digress :)

Overall, not a LOT of gaming, but many years of it instead. There's more I'm sure, but those are the bigger ones.

I've been DYING to get in here to post my opinions on this game, and since I've been here a little over a week now, I finally get to do so. This is not a rant, far from it. (First paragraph aside)

I REALLY like this game. The FATES, the story, the class turning into Jobs, and most of all (and SO FAR <---emphasis) the community. I'm new, and I mention that in dungeons. MOST of the folks, if not all, don't care and are HAPPY to teach me the ropes and how and where to tank whichever boss we're on. I know how to tank away from the group, I've been there and done that in each and every game. I'm a tank, and I'm a damn good one in the other games.

Each and every time there is a wipe, we rebound and tackle it again. No one has berated me. No one has bashed me or starting shouting obscenities about my mother. No one has threatened to set my dog on fire using a blowtorch.

This game and the way it is currently is pretty much everything Guild Wars 2 should have been, and then some. I'm know this game has some CON's on top of all the pros, and I'm not going into that here. The community and the game is everything I never knew I would enjoy and for that, I say thank you.

Final Fantasy 14 version 1.0 was a much better community but we were a lo of less people as well.

The rude behaviour isn't anything like as bad or frequent as it can look from reading the forums but it is there unfortunately. Glad you're enjoying he game.

The new player forums do not have the limitations of General Discussion I believe. Besides, GD is the general poo poo party of the forums. Someone is bound to shit on the coats.

And like Meleena says, hopefully you enjoy the game for some time post 50 as well. Because that IS where the game changes pace.

I hope your experience continues to be a positive one even when you hit endgame.

Personally, I've hit endgame not too long ago and overall I have had a good experience. Hopefully, you will too. ^^

Most people are quite nice I've found so far, had a few jerks since Vote Kick/Abandon was introduced but thats to be expected, and to be honest I usually end up vote kicking them myself lol. BUT overall the in-game community seems nicer then the small annoying minority on the forums :)

This is my first MMRPG so I guess I've rose tinted views but I've enjoyed been here since P3/EA and finally the (painful) launch day.
Loving the world and the story that I've seen so far (still not off 2.0 content, no spoilers please!) since I've just done Garuda the other day.

I'm glad to hear that. From what I see on these forums, that kind of changes in the level 50 scene I guess. So, put some anti-flame coats on your dog. Regardless, keep your perspective and I think you'll be fine. Make friends, have lots of fun, die and win together, all is well in the world.

Toxic player behavior doesn't start until level 50.. It's there, just wait for a few more days.

Not only am I a tank, but I will probably be going heals as Off spec. Mainly because I feel that every tank should know what the healer has to go through during each fight. Trash or boss. It's just how I was "raised"

I thougt you can post at any lv, but the amount you can post/day will depend on your lv. I know I posted stuff when I was less than lv 30 I think

For what its worth, I've experience very little in terms of toxic player behavior myself, even at endgame. However, i've also tanked in several previous MMOs and have a good grasp of the tanking mindset in general (seems like you do as well). So as long as you maintain a good attitude and you hold agro alright I can't imagine you'll experience much back either.

Yea, I am a WELL AWARE tank, which I'm sure others say as well, but honestly, it's not hard to face boss away, use CD's BEFORE needed, and hold aggro. Herp a derp. lol

The only thing I'd need to be told are the mechanics, even though I'd have watched the youtube videos. A simple "No, this is why you died and this is what you need to do" shouldn't be too much to ask. I'm in a VERY large guild so I'm sure I can get a hand from them.

While I commend your commitment to the gaming lifestyle, You will no doubt realise by now that your gaming history and rank achieved in said games is irrelevant.
Battle mechanics and skills are set up a little differently here, However I'm sure you will be a fine tank in FFXIV.
Focus on what you see working here, not what works in other games and you should be fine.
(I personally talked with another tank from my previous FC and we shared tips and improved on this knowlege)

This is probably the best environment to learn as a new tank (Whatever it is you're running) DF is always filled with people just wanting to do-it-and-get-out.

Yea, I found that out the hard way. There's no massive tanking modifier here. No "Just go hit them and they stick to you" mentality. Thankfully, some folks in my first DF dungeon told me the basics of initial aggro getting. :)

Only reason I mentioned it to begin with was to HOPEFULLY let people know I'm no newb when it comes to gaming and learning how to do so. Tis all. :)

Welcome and I agree, good community ingame for the most part, Ive had maybe 3 or 4 negative comments so far in just over a month, not bad going really
