I love capes but I don't think we'll see them in this game.
For one the game's engine can't handle capes. This was mentioned during beta, and Yoshi-P even said that capes would look like pieces of cardboard stuck to your back. Looking at the models for Acheron and Odin, I figure their capes move due to being part of an animation schedule they made (basically an animation that loops unless interrupted by another schedule, ie attack animation, casting animation, and so on).
No thanks, this are no world of warcraft.
Did the Incredibles movie teach you nothing?!
While I don't like the look of them myself, capes do have a certain FF pedigree. <3 those 8-bit caped crusaders.
Other than the aforementioned physics problems, there could be conflicts with existing gear, a lot of gear is spiky with large pauldrons (especially Darklight Tank gear and heavy darksteel) which would clip horribly and a lot of gear already has hoods (cowls) that would make hooded capes look silly.
I think capes would have needed to be in from the beginning, I think it may be too late to implement them now.
I doubt they would work well with a lot of the current armour models. Unlike WoW where everything but the shoulders and helm are pasted onto the character's skin, FF14 has actual 3D models for gear so it would probably clip terribly and just look bad. If they're to add capes then they should just be part of the chest piece.
Not a fan of the idea. I wanna look at my armor, not a giant rug hanging off my back.
If SE ever adds any kind of cape to the game, I'm guessing it's gonna look something like the Nuevo Coselete from FFXI and it's adorable mini cape.
Please keep the beachtowels out of XIV >_>
Ive yet to come across an MMO that did 'capes' properly outside of DCUO. And even then .. They looked tacky and awful most of the time.
I approve of Capes, Mantles, and all other forms of Back accessories. Dev's need to take notice and put this in, Even if its only Vanity, This would be an awesome Idea!!!!!
PS3 limitations? lol
Wrong, WoW did not do capes first in an MMO. I know Dark Age of Camelot had capes, and pretty sure Ultima Online (basically the first graphical MMO) also had capes. As for originality, capes are a design in high fantasy. Since most MMOs are high fantasy, capes are not unheard of.
The only cool part I can see about having a cape, is to display your FC crest more prominently. If capes can be like a big walking advertisement for my FC, than I wouldn't mind them :)
If they were all the same 4-5 generic designs with no customization, then forget it IMO.
I would absolutely love capes, especially with your fc logo on.
Seeing the one that's part of the armour of light though not sure it'd work.
Rather than capes, I wish they made belts visible again. :/
So many MMOs animate capes poorly and subject players to ugly capes with good stats. If I can turn off the visual I'm fine with capes ... though adding a completely new item to receive stats from will take some balancing. Though more options that use the same half cape/tabard as the infantry chest piece I'd welcome
There was a bag slot in 1.0 that I wish they fleshed out a little more. Also anyone else miss the way we could have glasses and a hat on at the same time?
Yes I want a cape slot.
Dark Age of Camelot was the only MMO I've played that did capes well. You could stick your guild logo on it, dye it, and choose whether or not you wanted the hood up or down. I would love capes in this game, of all sizes, and with an option to turn them off if you don't like the look. Or maybe they're part of the vanity system. No stat increases, but you can wear one if you want to look dashing.
FFXI had a back slot, it just wasn't rendered.
No! We don't want jumping in this game! It breaks immersion!..... Oh wait, wrong thread.
had capes in GW2. did not care for it. that said, I see no reason why they couldn't implement it (if they're really strapped for things to do.. which is probably not the case), so long as there is a toggle on/off option. However, I have a feeling that people would get sick of the inevitable clipping issue. How would a cape work with things strapped to your back? Where is that lance coming from? Your bow seems to be both underneath and above the cape? Given the choice, which would you rather see, your weapon or your cape?
Capes are for vampires and other weirdos
Yeah, City of Heroes (rest in peace, sigh) did it the best, even still. Kind of crazy how a game that was so old and now dead (sigh, again) did them better than any other mmo i'm aware of. They still sometimes looked "odd", with stretching, and behaving weirdly, but so much better than the WoW cardboard, and even other ones who glitched out more often than not. I'd rather they not do them, if they can't do it better than CoH (with physics and huge variety) then don't even bother, but often it also doesn't really add anything i feel.
I think that I would rather see my belt rendered on the model than to see the addition of capes.
