Till it gets caught somewhere, making you a sitting duck.
Cape just gave lalafell muggers extra leveage to drag you to the ground or climb up to your shoulders.
I love capes but I don't think we'll see them in this game.
For one the game's engine can't handle capes. This was mentioned during beta, and Yoshi-P even said that capes would look like pieces of cardboard stuck to your back. Looking at the models for Acheron and Odin, I figure their capes move due to being part of an animation schedule they made (basically an animation that loops unless interrupted by another schedule, ie attack animation, casting animation, and so on).
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
No thanks, this are no world of warcraft.
Did the Incredibles movie teach you nothing?!
While I don't like the look of them myself, capes do have a certain FF pedigree. <3 those 8-bit caped crusaders.
Other than the aforementioned physics problems, there could be conflicts with existing gear, a lot of gear is spiky with large pauldrons (especially Darklight Tank gear and heavy darksteel) which would clip horribly and a lot of gear already has hoods (cowls) that would make hooded capes look silly.
I think capes would have needed to be in from the beginning, I think it may be too late to implement them now.
I doubt they would work well with a lot of the current armour models. Unlike WoW where everything but the shoulders and helm are pasted onto the character's skin, FF14 has actual 3D models for gear so it would probably clip terribly and just look bad. If they're to add capes then they should just be part of the chest piece.
