How does auto-attack initiated (strange fact)

Hi guys I was wondering how can a player initiate the auto-attack? I have seen the video many time and I conclude this:
the auto-attack initiated if a player is in active mode and locked on the mob. "noticed that the normal attack is not in the actions bar".

If that's true then it gonna suck. Because it doesn't give you control over your auto-attack especially with not so good targeting system.

I'm not sure if this way is the best way. what if I don't locked on the target? what if I unlocked the mob after initiating the auto-attack, will the auto-attack stop?

is there any possibility to have the normal attack on the actions bar wherein pressing it once would initiate the auto-attack

i dont think you need to be locked onto the target , targeted possibly but you wont start hitting
the mob until you are close enough. (using FFXI's auto-attack as refrence now)

Prolly just need to be in active mode, target selected, and in appropriate range to the target depending on you weapon/tool.

wow... that "hit the button noise" is annoying...lol i havent played in weeks so i almost forgot how bad it is.

if you ever played the leve: 'Levinshower", at the end of it there are two elementals they are close to each. I might hit any one targeted even if I don't intend to do so because I can control my auto-attack. "most people only kill 1 elemental" So that might be annoying.

you missed my point, people can kill these stupid elementals easily. However, they can't control their auto-attack in a better way.

Ah good point, my bad, well... first thing that comes to mind is the "Assist" command SE said they were going to implement sometime.
Assuming its a given party ofc with a tank & not solo play.

Then again, once you kill one Moo Moo, the targeting circle or arrow will drop from last
current target (and attack will stop or be on hold) until you select a new target i suppose.

I can see "Target Markings" being very useful in a situation as you describe thou,
and i mean no restriction to mark targets as it is now, party / leve only markings sux.

But well thats just my take on how it might work.

I hope there is something active to do while auto-attacking ...

well, to stop yourself from attacking, all you have to do is turn around just like the video with the pug stunning the mob and moving behind it.

Weapon skills, Abilities, spells, positioning, regiments, hate control.

All auto attack is is an automated 1 spam more or less and the removal of the stamina bar.

I do not why people are thinking this Autoattack is going to play the game for them... WoW has autoattack, Rift has autoattack, GW has autoattack, ffxi has autoattack. And none of those game play themselves.

Auto-attack should have been implemented since the beta. and I'm sure that it will improve the gameplay. However, I'm concerned about if we have a better control using the auto-attack. when it starts and how can we stop it?

any thought? dev team can you explain it more for us, please.

I think they should have left the "light strike" or "mana bolt" on the bar, which would initiate the mob, and to disengage press it again.
The icon could grey out while engaged, and light up when disengaged.

Since we are no longer spamming a button, and to appease those of us who are used to initiating that way >> <<; It seems like a logical choice.

It is the logical choice indeed

Possibly active/passive mode initiates autoattack and they change other ability’s to work outside of active mode.

So basically active/passive becomes autoattack/no autoatack

Eugh, sounds convoluted. The easiest strategy would just to make your basic attack be your auto attack, f would still put you into active and passive, only difference being instead of spamming 1 over and over, it'd just continue to hit it while you work on placement of your character, TP moves and spells.

Although on that subject of working outside of active mode, I kinda wish I could cast spells without whipping out my staff.

I would also assume active/passive triggers auto attack; in the last letter Yoshi-P mentions that we would now be able to switch between active/passive while on the move and i think this is being done so its easier to turn auto-attack on/off without delay.

Oh my... if that is what auto-attack will be then my fears have become true..
One thing I hated most of FFXI's auto attack was the delay between attacks...
What.. do you need to take a sip from your cup of tea between attacks..?! -.- Jeez..
