Vanity System in PvP

Not to be a negative nancy, but I'm just interested if anyone else has had this thought.

Who thinks the vanity system is going to screw over all visual recognition in PvP.

I'm looking forward to Rank 30 healers using ilvl55 gear as there vanity slot in PvP. The hilarity of that situation is going to be both awful and amazing at the same time.

But seriously, anyone else see this coming? I really hope they somehow disable the vanity system in PvP

Pretty sure they've already said it won't work in PvP, though that's mostly coming from secondhand sources like Twitch stream translations/chat.

Think cascadier uniform would be more of a troll. :< Nothing makes me face roll more than a girl in a bikini ccing the crap out of me.

Most PvP'er I know would do the following:
Deck themselves with super fugly gears.
Deck themselves with super skimpy clothing.
Deck themselves with decent looking gear.
Deck themselves with Class misleading gear.

And by god, most of the really good ones will use the misleading gear. It's like "Oh that guy looks like a SMN!" but he is holding a Staff... So is he a WHM or BLM now? (Or even better enable weapon hide)
2nd comes those who wear gears like is an eyesore to everyone. That square-plank shield, party cone-hats, stubby daggers, hoe looking axes to toothpick lances and dental floss looking bows.
Then comes the nakid squaddies. I'd think most people will go with the Dzemael gears which totally makes one into a marketable prostitute.
And come your regular I'd want to have anything that looks bad-ass.

My monk back in WoW wears Druid Tier Set Look alike armor and is an Undead. Go figure which category I'm in =P.

OH now I think I know where Long Nu thought I was a Monk... Probably from one of the post I made about being a Monk back in WoW for my last PvP season. Well I'm already began my Monk exodus on FF14.

the biggest mindfuck wont be people dressing up in misleading gear, it will be 4 identical looking taru tarus

As someone who has played MMOs that allow vanity costumes in PvP I assure you nothing would change. No one uses costumes to mislead others in said MMOs simply because it doesn't work. Anyone worth their salt will identify by your weapon/mannerisms. No one is fooled by wearing gear that doesn't match your level. The costume variety differs little from what people wear in PvE.

Its already been done, the only thing that happened was the paranoid people panicking about how it would be exploited went silent after realizing it wasn't a big deal and literally nothing changed.

EDIT: Think of it this way: there's nothing preventing that type of behavior right now. What's stopping 3 Lala spellcasters from donning identical robes, getting all the stats they need from their non-displayed gear, and playing a nasty game of "hide the healer"? Notice that's not happening: because it doesn't work. Human beings just aren't stupid enough to fall for such a ruse long enough to make a difference.

Try guessing my class when I have my weapon turned off. You will only know when I feel like hitting someone. Problem is wearing same gear doesn't allow for optimal stats. I can identify a iLvl 70 to a 90 before the gates even open at it's current state. Unlike other PvP game the chaos of "Fresh Meat" titled enemies will put more confusion unless you plan to mark all of them off the start.

You have to display your weapon to enter combat remember? And the only thing a you'd have to compromise to be deceptive without vanity is your chest piece. Helmets can be hidden with matching haircuts, leggings hidden under a bulky ruse chest piece, gloves/boots barely stand out. If that deception would give a player such a huge unfair advantage what's the loss of one piece of gear's stats in comparison?

You can hide it until you hit a skill.

The advantage is people can't plan ahead, like say if you know the opponent comp is BLM SCH PLD DRG you pretty much can expect what is going to happen. The BLM is going to Sleep anyone capable of CC, PLD stuns the healer DRG drops burst on healer while SCH will throw in some Cleric Stance Ruin 2 and Energy Drain, so in order to counter that you will have no one stacking on each other, have the Melee DPS Fetter Wards and pressure the BLM as much as possible, Healer hide in LoS, if your team has PLD stun lock the opponent healer Hallowed Ground if you're expecting CC's to come your way, all the while your Range DPS finishes off the BLM. And when their DPS and tank starts to peel their healer when the BLM is down if your team has a WHM healer proceed to go for free cast Repose.

Information wars gives tactical advantage. You cannot deny that.

Truth be told I don't really need a weapon to identify a player. Their body language, stance, positioning, tab target.... the list goes on.

Yet the information you'd get isn't worth enough to justify a full ban. And you're really able to set up an advanced strategy like that, yet would be rendered helpless if the enemies wear disguises which in reality would only buy them a second or two of deception? Quit kidding yourself.

And none of that addresses the fact that a PvP group can still dress deceptively without vanity, just at an insignificant loss of stats. Then again if the general PvP community in this game is so easily fooled maybe I need to roll a generic looking Lalafell.....

Sure if you want to plan on the fly go ahead. Thing is I don't want the other party to plan, when the gate lifts I'm rushing in to give them ZERO time to tab target least time for thought. YOU are kidding yourself to think that any PvP'er worth their salt wouldn't want to get an upper hand and put the opponent in a disadvantage.

Lalafells have a upper hand in the deception cause you need to close in to know what they are, they are unidentifiable before gate opens. Ever had the time where you went on something that has Aetherflow confident it was the SCH but was actually the SMN? Cause the other team say hey I'll manually move my EoS beside my SMN while you move your Garuda with me.

Running out the gate it is everyone's job, especially the healers to take a quick look, take a mental snapshot of what you see coming out the gate.. what classes, how geared they are etc, where they are going, and where/what/when you are going to position yourself when all the shit breaks lose, you have about hmmm... 1 second maybe 2 seconds to asses the group make up and what course of action you'll take when the gate opens. With the vanity system, this is gonna be pretty funny, and chaotic.

This would not work, everyone wearing robes? You mean the cowls that also use your head slot? you realize you can't change gear once in combat... your team would be absolutely destroyed. There are teams that can literally kill targets that are in full i70 pvp gear in about 4 seconds, sometimes faster.

Not to mention the stats lost from losing your chest and head piece.
