Epic nonsense

Just wondering how many of you are like me and you love the nonsensical, epic pointlessness of fantasy weapons and armor....

I am serious... and not even being sarcastic....

I'm talking about swords with retarded shaped blades made of crystal with holes in them
multicolored swords with enough zigs and zags to make you dizzy....

Lulu attacking with an onion knight doll that runs up and hits the mob....

Weapons that in no way shape or form could ever be practical in real life
Because you know what... this is definitely not real life
I love them

Take all of the blades on Lightning's Gunblades in FFXIII... they are all unique, and make absolutely no sense whatsoever... and I LOVE them....

I want a cesti that wraps all the way up the pugilists arms....

An Axe with three axe heads each made of a different metal

Straight blades and realistic weapons are out....

More nitpicking eh? Aren't there worse issues here then looks of weapons ( which I don't see a problem with honestly)

HEY STOP!!!!!!!! its called Final "Fantasy" and we all know that means drab gothic/midevil armor and bland weapons! The bow and hand to hand weapons are such an eyesore in this game its enexcusable but everytime i say something about it; it gets flash mobbed by forums monkeys. And yet again w/ the instance dungeon update today they show yet more reskinned and simply recolored existing models.

I like realistic weapons with flair on them. But if you start giving me Bayonetta style stuff...eh...no thanks.

Would love to have better weapons but I would prefer to have other things fixed first and foremost.

Honestly I don't even want to influence the developers on anything artistic....
I like to play a game within the directors vision
Just a fun FF fan thread about what kinds of weapons you like....
And new gear isn't an issue or a side thing... they are ALWAYS adding new gear... no matter what content they add... no matter what optimizing or tweaking they do, new gear will always be in development... So its not counterproductive for players to come together and talk about their favorite type of gear....

I'm not gonna cry if SE doesn't add any of the gear I like to the game....

I DO KNOW, however, that the most sought after collectors items from previous FF titles, and the items that embody the FF feel are the weapons that are absolutely ridiculous looking....

Yeh, I miss those kind of stuff, seems the MMO's out of the FF series are the only ones with shoddy uncreative weapons.

worst case scenario, the mods and devs never see this thread... I'm ok with that

I'm really not asking them to fix anything... just keep outlandishness in mind when coming up with new gear... thats all...
they are indeed making new gear... they always will be.... I'd just like it if they could go a little crazy with the designs... Seems like it would be more fun for the artists also...

they doesn't work against the game improvements....

If I said my favorite foods are Asian cuisine, that doesn't mean I am bashing burgers and fries...
Why can't someone say what they like?

Not everyone likes the whole futuristic concepts like gunblades and such, but I am chill with the Garleans having em makes total sense. I would like weapons to be better looking, and not overly gaudy. Like in XI homam was the gaudiest gear they had but it was still pretty epic looking to me and not overly gaudy in my opinion also. Why can't SE bring a lil of that flair back for gear and weapons.

Well you may feel that way but others may not, personally I don't want swords with flames that are twice the size of my character, that just looks stupid. If you're gonna make it look magical, make it look magical, not ridiculous. Some kind of aura around the blade is fine, flames and thunder and stuff like that look stupid imo.

The gear in XIV looks fine, it just needs a little more variety, like AF gear offered in XI, but that will come, just be patient. I always thought shoulder pads that were six times bigger than the head of the character made anyone look like a dumbass but maybe that's just me.

Fantasy, yes, but let's not overdo it either.

I wanna know what happened to those weapons Tanaka posted, i figured they'd of been added by now.

I'm actually out of town and can't play again til Wednesday... so it's nice to mix it up with the community this way...

I don't know what it is about me but I just love weapons that are retarded by design....
I know a lot of people like the realism...
My buddy Xander does some metal working in real life and loves the realism in the game...
I, on the other hand, am all about "Over the top"

As a trained combatant, I find that if the weapons are too plain then they just bore me...I look at mine all day long in real life, why would I want to look at them all day long in the game. But on the same token I don't like the "twice as big as me, glowing, burning, undead killing sword+99" type weapons as its not feasibly possible to wield the weapon its so big (you can take this into account with armor well).

I like weapons are armor that seem realistic with slight magical flair or with elegant designs (have swords with tassels or engraving on the blades, a crook with an orb of colored magic that faintly glows inside the crooks wrap, a staff that has been carved to look like the wood is wrapping around itself in an intricate manner) those are the kinds of details I want on weapons; I feel its a nice middle ground between too little and over the top. XI was heading in the right direction with the weapons its just too bad that PS2 got in the way.

Also, there's no such thing as a THREE-HEADED AXE! I mean, WHAT!? Then a Spikeball on a stick, how about that? =D

That's part of why I like the art direction they went with this game. Feels a little classier. Though that's not to say crazy over the top designs arn't fun, I'm just looking for something a little more believable right now.

What do you think of swords having blades in crazy shapes like the gunblades Lightning used in XIII (Obviously they would be just swords and wouldn't do all of that flippy trippy transformers stuff...

What's in my mind is drawn in Pain(t), so yeah =)
I dunno though. Can't find a use of it, and I think that the shaft would break down for the excess of metal on the top after the 5th swing. Maybe only with a really light metal that could be convenient to swing, but if there's not one, I'd find it twice hard to swing that even if the shaft were made with more solid metal.

Yes I would say that isn't over the top (so long as the size is realistic in proportion to the wielder). Gun blades are fine too as contrary to popular belief, they actually exist in our world as well (although we call them Rifle Bayonets)

I think "Perfect World" has crazy stuff like what your talking about.

I would prefer realistic weapons but it would be nice for some artistic flair. Like a pistol/cannon with the barrel designed to look like a dragons head stuff like that.

I actually really enjoy industrial cities like Midgar (FFVII) or Uhra (Lost Odyssey)
See... SE has always been able to blend Medieval, futuristic, steam punk and fantasy together with perfect balance to create new worlds unlike anything else, that are both archaic past and modern futuristic... they just exist...

Final Fantasy XIV is the less fantasy chapter of the entire series

they make the game too much realistic just because they want to show off the power of their crystal tool engine

Players who want glowing weapons of large and ridiculous proportions need to stick to the space marine shooter genre for another 7 years. Such nonsense will become a humorously naive thing to you in due time.

The MMO genre is a full generation older than the average gaming genre. To that oldre generation, we grew out of buster swords and NNNNNNNNNGGGGGHHHHHHHHH ROCKS UP FROM THE GROUND juvenile stuff a while ago.

A mage weapon that is a tiny tonberry would be kindof cool though. But lord knows the kids would demand that it sparked and smoked and struck kickass poses and destroyed the universe in a cutscene.

Because appearance is power to the young ones. Meh.

I'm okay with weapons that don't make much sense in real life, and this game already has nonpractical weapons. Many of them are needlessly boring. But the annoying adolescent imagery that is associated with the common alternative needs kept away from the game's mature fantasy style.

No swords dripping blood. That's juvenile.

we need more fantasy weapons AND armours as well!

Diablo 2 style weapons (And armour) are not to outlandish. Im not saying a bow that shoots lighting all directions that hit for 9999999 health... im just saying the way they look :D

I would like my staff to have a laser sight & knife attachment.

I have to say, "crazy weapons" is why I like Monster Hunter (yeah I know this is an FF forum)

but in terms of FF, the Atma Weapon comes to mind (FFVI) that was a prery cool weapon.

Screw GunBlades though, give me a ShotgunLance with Cure Materia in it.

Nah, its too colorful for XIV.

I'm a huge fan of stuff like this, although I think FFX-FFXIII started to get a little too retardedly narcissistic. I like stuff that's really imaginative.

I think the weapon looks okay. if you remember one of the letter from producers has the armor designs by yoshi, which i think fantasy-ish but not overly make-believe. so maybe we get to see similar weapon designs to accompany them?

p.s. the battle music for abyssea is really catchy > _ <, first time hearing it
