How would people feel about a bestiary?

Say you have an empty book, underneath hunting lug or wherever, called "Bestiary"

The first kill of an enemy simply labels it's name and shows a picture of it, and so on with varying degrees of optional rewards.

- 5 Kills: Unlock location data
- 15 Kills: Unlock loot drops, and percentages
- 50 Kills: Opens up a tidbit of lore on the creature
- 150 Kills: You unlock a title, say "Yarzon Slayer"
- 500 Kills: You unlock an acheivement and some vanity/exclusive gear for that creature, etc. a wolf skin you can wear
- 1000 Kills: You unlock a special, unique, completely optional item, say "Sun Bats will now come to your aid in battle, and no longer aggro you *on world map, not during treasure maps or quests"
- 5000 Kills: You unlock the full lore for that creature, a cutscene, the title "Researcher of Diremites", and possible a vanity weapon with a special effect such as always doing critical damage to that enemy type and raising its drop rates for gil and items


I think this could add incentive to kill world mobs for some people, a bit of grind for others, and I don't think it would be too hard to implement.

I like this idea, FF games are full of cool critters! Why not give them some recognition?!

I would love to have something like this so we can learn more about the lore of each monsters in this game.

We see so many monsters (world areas and dungeons) but lack a lot of knowledge about their lore in FF14. Only time we get some lore is from quests or cutscenes that we can easily miss if you don't either play certain class/Jobs for their story quests or normal quests which people often just blindly skip the text because they want to rush towards finishing the quests.

However, I think somethings will need to be removed.

This ideal is better for unlocking lore about monsters. Leave the beast taming to the Beastmasters in Ishgard.

Very novel idea, have a "like". :)

I have two viewpoints.

1. That would be ****ing RADICAL!

2. It's a unbelievable waste of limited time and resources.

Was suggested way back in 1.0 check the thread in my signature for the dev responses.

I think it's a fabulous idea and keeps zones interesting after hitting 50.

This game needs more personal time sinks you can do on your own without feelign trapped to play with either people you don't want to play with or that you HAVE to do it.

You could tie in the Bestiary and Chocobo Companion in one fell swoop!
Give a sidequest with your companion to unlock Fat Chocobo, haha, then he reads off everything

If we are to get a bestiary I'd rather have it come with an expansion rather than a patch, to do it properly they would need to pour a great deal of time and effort into it. The original suggestion and dev responses were about "Thinking about it" for 2.0 launch.

Hell if they could even manage to make it detailed like the fishing log that would be great, I'd love to see something with substance and meaning put into the game to do with lore but SE seems to lately run very counter to that stance.

It most likely will appear once we get Ishgard in 1st expansion if this system is implemented since a NPC does mention there is a group of Beast Tamers in Ishgard but I forget which NPC.

or those Beast Tamers could just be a hint for Beastmaster trainer but we will see once we get into Ishgard or near Ishgard since they can most likely release bits and pieces of Ishgard's area through major updates for Main Story Scenario use as we get closer to the 1st Expansion and the opening of Ishgard's Gates to outsiders.

I don't know how that would work with SE's stance on how obtaining skill/straits works... I imagine the most we'll get is- verytime we unlock a beast skill it has us fight a mob then learn there attacks in a more scripted fashion.

This would be amazing, +1 to your idea.

It's an interesting idea, and I like it (I rather enjoy the hunting log & this would be a great addition/expansion of it), but we all know that the majority of players (you know the ones that don't come to forums at all) won't even give a rat's posterior about it.

I like it, but I think location data should come immediately with the first kill. Maybe only the zone though, I don't think exact locations should be given.

Yoshi already said that there would not be an in-game bestiary, just the libra eorzea crapp. Memory limitations or something, this was all discussed during the beta.
That's right, if you want a bestiary for your online game you need a smartphone.

Think they would just make it client side so the game doesn't need to call information from the servers.

If I couldn't solo half of northern thanalan all pulled at once and live, I'd like the idea.

There are no tough monsters anywhere in any zone that are not in an instance.

I would love one. But i wouldnt expect it to get so in-depth with all enemies. Maybe a select few. But the majority of it would be collecting a large array of different enemies i think. Either way sounds fun.... well not 5000 times though. That sounds rediculous. I mean come on... i got a 12hr job here ;)
