I took a GIANT GIL DUMP!

Get rid of some of the gil dumps.
I'm not business major but anyone can see the markets have too much supply not enough demand.

Take away a lot of these vendor items that players can make. Replace the weapons vendors in various parts of the game for example with market boards. It will still say "Weapon Vendor" but for instance....

Your in a level 30 zone, talk to a merchant, he will only allow you to BUY level 30-ish items from the market.

Also a lot of gathering mats should be taken away from the vendors too. Why destroy gil? The point is to circulate it throughout the community. Sure, some gil dumps are needed. Not when the smallest houses are 7 million gil though.

Honestly I have no problem with the big giant gil dumps. Like housing, and if you feel there is too much gil, add some more. Like some uber expensive armor or something.

Your post just gave me a really wonderful idea on how to ruin the economy of a server.

While I'm very pro 'MAKE CRAFTING GOOD'.. There would have to be significant changes around this idea. To directly answer your question- Not destroying gil and circulating it, as the rest of the game stands, would be bad because it pretty much rains from the sky. There is too much being created.

Housing gil sink is a bit of a myth, at least at the moment. Go check out how many houses are on your server. Keep in mind that there was too much gil being generated at Launch. Since then they added drops to dungeons which everyone spams. Then they reduced the single biggest gil sink in the game, repairs.

Certainty not get rid of ALL the vendor items. I'm not that insane.....
just the ones that there is obviously way too much supply of.
Its really sad to see pages and pages of 1 type of weapon that never sells.
Or mats that there is SOOOOO much of from people leveling gathering they just vendor them off
or throw them on the market for 1 gil each and they never sell.

When I read your post, my first thought was "who the hell buys all their gear from vendors?"

Vendor NPC's role in any MMO is to set maximum prices for various common goods in the game. People can make and sell them for cheaper, so you don't usually buy from the NPC unless the convenience outweighs the cost to you.

npc's should not give anything thats gear period.

Uhm, no. They absolutely should, as long as it's more expensive than buying the same item made or found by other means. Otherwise you have every newbie (note "newbie" means new person, not "noob" which usually means "bad like a new person but isn't actually new") asking where to get their gear.

I remember when Asheron's call II (a game that died in less than a year) tried to create a world with absolutely no NPC vendors and have players make everything. It didn't work. At all. And it was one of the primary reasons for the game's faliure.

I don't know about you, but lately I've been leveling up quite a few sub classes. WHM to 32, PLD to 31, ARC to 29, ACN to 24, THM to 27, etc.

Primary method was through Low Level Roulette while I do gathering. 95% of the time it's Sastasha, Tamtara, Copperbell, Halatari, Ifrit. Even at level 32 I'm consistently getting Sastasha with a bunch of level 2x~4x people. I have no need for gear. I haven't bought any one single piece of gear for all those sub classes, and I'm likely not going to need to.

Removing those vendors, in fact, remove all armor and weapon vendors from the game, it's not going to create demand. For me, the demand was never there to begin with, so your solution is removing the supply that is fulfilling an imaginary demand.

To create demand, the leveling content need to be tuned precisely so that people wearing level 20 gear have no chance of surviving a level 30 dungeon. But the game isn't tuned like that. Leveling content is just easy.

Even if it was tuned like that, people will just fall back to FATE grinding, again by-passing the gear requirement.

Because

1. that demand was never there to begin with; and
2. there are extremely easy alternatives to gear and leveling.

I think your solution is not going to have any result.

Personally they should take a page out of WoW's crafting book and give each DOH one thing that while not best in slot is at least better than philosophy tome items. This way people have a reason to level DoH's. Culinarian and Alchemy could have Feasts and some sort of party wide buff. Put a level limit on them though.

The 2 star crafted gear already is somewhat better than DL, base they are on par, but overmelded? Yep, better.

Don't really need feasts or party wide buffs from alchemy and culinarian, they just need to tweak the numbers so that people actually feel the items are worth using.

Keep in mind, the markets are saturated, that's why the prices really are the way they are.

Have you seen the prices people put some of this stuff up for?

The fact is, there's demand for mid-level items already; there just isn't enough supply, and what supply there is is too often drastically overpriced because the seller is either greedy or too lazy to gather the materials themselves in order to reach a more reasonable price point for the same profit margin, or both.

For awhile I tried to buy off the MB a full set of HQ crafted gear for a level 40 tank, however as I describe above, the supply was pitiful and often the pricing was awful, so much so that I settled on it taking me 2+ months to actually level all the crafting classes (from 20 to 40), but at least this way it's my name at the bottom of the tooltip.

And demand has tanked as people invariably leave the game.

no point, when people go to buy something, they only want HQ stuff, so they wont touch the vendor weapons and armor.
