Parties kicking players out beacuse of being in different languages

Here's the info, a few of my friends here on Masamune were just doing their normal day of playing FF14 and trying their best to get passed either a battle or quests.
When they were about to do so, they just simply get kicked out because of one silly
barrier, THAT they do not speak the same languages.

Is it so wrong to kick someone from a duty because of this barrier, or thinking that one language is superior then the rest of all languages?
If you think that then I feel so sorry for you. In my eyes and ears its bad gamesmanship (or sportsmanship which feels right to you), plus its giving out a really bad example to your language you first speak of. Sure were not the same but that doesn't mean, we should throw another player to the side about it.
I believe here is to have fun, play and share together of the game's wonderful adventure. Here we shouldn't judge on the simple of things but to help and teach old and new players a like no matter how rough things go.

If you can't communicate, how can you form an effective group?

Sir, in worlds like Masamune, queuing for only the secondary language gives you extremely long queue times. Even a tank can take up to 30+++ minutes for a simple 4 man party.

And before you say, we should move to a US server. Please note that physically half the world is closer to Japan. And in a game like FF14 which lag is a huge part, that 200+ more latency is big. Also we will encounter another problem in which US main times and ours do not sync.

Which is why, if you bother to read the forums instead of this trolling the OP, you would know that there is a request in the forum going around to group the servers with big English speaking populations together or to even dedicate a server for English people in the Japan Data centers.

Lastly, is this not a forum for Masamune players, what is a guy from Balmung doing here? Seriously looks like trolling ....

Since this is Masamune, and you posting in Eng section, I presuming you are talking about Japanese speaking population, since they are the biggest population around :D

Well firstly, as trolling mentioned, the JP do not want to play with people that cannot communicate with. Go get FFXIVAPP. Put it up on your secondary screen. Also have Google Translate open.

Make sure to inform them that you are using Google Translate and can roughly understand what they are saying. Use Google Translate to say that in Japanese. Be polite.

That helps alot with most average content. Sadly for primal extremes, while that helps, due to nature of fights they want max communications.

Also JP are very niche niche, they as a historical rule, stick together. So you have those that see non-JP will kick straight. You have to live with those.

Rule of thumb is, DF, they kick you after you mention you translate and understand what they saying is bad. But in PT, if they put JP only, they seriously mean JP only. You can ask but joing them without asking is a sure way to get kicked and is not cool.

Another thing that helps is to know your content. If they see that you know what to do, chances are they are less likely to kick you. But as always (no matter what language), there is those bugger that will do kick just because.

Most Party Finder they will state the JP only and yes they do kick you if you do not speak it regardless if you are skill or not. I have not personally seen this happen in Duty Finder though, but a FC member did mention that he got kick before in Crystal Tower.

Anyway I would understand the language requirement for hard content where there is some need to communicate, like Coil. All other content as long as everyone know what to do there is nothing much to communicate anyway. I have join Duty Finder for Garuda and Ifrit extreme where I was probably the only English player, never got kick and clear it too. Usually I will use FFXIV-APP to help me understand what they are saying.

It's a ridiculous requirement for certain content but kind of require in others, just something that we have to live with in JP server. It's unfortunate that while we English players use third party software or FFXIV build in translator to communicate with them, most JP players would not bother with it.

Not entirely true. I am not a Japanese yet I've always partied with JP players in farming any Primals EX. Just state that you've cleared the said content and you're good to join their party.

Agree.
There are many English players join a JP party and ask them to speak English instead because they don't speak JP. I was like "Huh? What!?"

Here is an example:
Last week, an English player "Dragoon" joined a JP coils party for turn 1, he doesn't speak JP, but he said it's okay he has done it before. Well, he died few times and when we discuss strategy at Caduceus, he said, "I don't understand, please use auto-translation".
Luckily, I was there and one of the JP players explaining to him.

Here another one:
Two English player tank join a JP coils party for turn 4. The JP leader was so happy finally got tanks to join in. He greeted them with simple English and asks, "Did you guys done it before", the tanks answered "Yes".
Nah, we can't even get pass to P2, both tanks at the wrong position. They don't even notice and yet keep shouting "Not enough DPS!". After 3 tried, the JP party leader had to disband the party and apologize to his JP teammate.
And next thing, I saw "JP Only" in his Party finder comments.

There are more stories actually but I'll save it for next time.

I join JP party all the time, basically I cleared 99% game contents with them, I never got kick not even once. However, if you join a "JP Only" in Party finder, and yet you don't speak JP, you're asking for it, you deserve it.

I got passed thru some JP parties. :> IYKWIM.

Heck, I'm even trying to learn their basic party phrases, and try to note them all so atleast I'll have an idea the next time I encountered one.

Use the auto-translator.

My statement was not meant to say all will kick, it's just stating it does happens. It has happen to our FC members regardless if they clear or not. It's better if you can type a bit of JP, but if you use auto translate, chances of getting kick is a bit higher.
Anyway as much I do not like the language thing, but I can understand why they would put it, well I never join any Party Finder anyway, if I want to run something for fun I just Duty Finder it.

I have the same issue, and even when you use the auto-translater, the JP players generally use that as more of a reason to kick then try to communicate from my own experience. They are not all JP only just it seems to be a trend which is catching on. Right now on Masamune there are maybe 20 groups in party finder and more than half have flagged JP only, which really makes it difficult to interact. I try my very best to communicate, and use google translate as necessary, but I think this trend has to stop. The auto translator works so well it is not necessary to filter people out this way.

That maybe good and all for PC players but for PS3/soon PS4 Players is a problem, they have a problem where they can't use Google Translate. I myself an a PS3 player and I can't use it at all

When u join a jp party only, they check your language setting. If i cannot show u can understand, they will kick ypu but this was deserved. If they wrote jp only is for a reason.

It really sounds like most examples of ENG or non JP players getting kicked occurs in the end game content only. I think, just like most players from any country, JP players probably aren't going to kick your or have a problem with a mixed language party when you're running Sastasha or some other low/med level dungeon. But I'm not going to hold it against them if they want to be able to communicate easily when they're PUGing Coil, such as in the example above.

My favorite party so far was a low lvl where we were all Lala and at the end the other 3 players spammed "otsukarelala" which I thought was just peachy, but I wouldn't think any less of those players if it'd been Coil and they had asked me to leave because they needed to take on the content more seriously, they've got every right to.

If this is something formed through the Party Finder they have the right to make the party the way they see fit. If you join something via DF and get vote kicked, you can report them for Harassment. Being removed from a group because you don't speak the same language is not one of the criteria to initiate a vote kick.

opened up PF today , 1 / 10+ EM parties is not jp-only.
sure , its their choice , but it sure doesn't help when the prevalent culture here is heavily anti-gaijin.

It certainly isn't trolling. It's common courtesy to be able to effectively communicate in the social game you're playing. It's unfair to the other people who you're going into when you lie and say you are able to speak a language you cannot. If you can use translation well enough or can give enough grasp of a language to make it through then there's obviously no issue.

And no, I wouldn't ever say that you should change servers as I completely understand the issue with geolocation and lag. And I actually 100% support the threads asking for server groups being adjusted to ensure that English pseaking people in the JP Datacentre are able to more easily communicate with each other.

Ultimately it's up to SE to make this smooth for people, but you still shouldn't lie and say you can do one thing when you cannot, and thus inconvenience a group of other people. I would not be pleased if people selected English just to get a faster group when they could not speak it. I like being able to communicate with my teammates, and from everything I've heard about the Japanese players they are very much the same.

And whether I'm from another server or not should be moot, we are a global community after all and this issue does happen in the NA/EU datacenters (though to a much less degree from what I've heard) so it's an issue that concerns all of us.
