SE's quick response to harrassing players

Last night we had a BLM that was verbally abusive right from the moment we started Qarn. Our healer, who was a 50 BLM among other jobs is a great WHM as well. Being such he is very comfortable DPSing and casting sleep on extra mobs. This pissed the black mage off instantly and so began the namecalling, the insults, and typical attitude of someone craving attention. I warned the the BLM that we would replace him if he didn't change his attitude and still he kept on. We didn't make it through maybe 2 rooms before we finally vote-kicked him for harassment. I filed a report on the player and within moments I had a response from a GM and he informed me they were already looking into his actions. I just want to say that [GM Aesthphron] was very friendly and made a frustrating situation better for us. There are too many people that hide behind the anonymity of their avatars and we shouldn't have to put up with it. Thank you SE for handling the situation so quickly.

While I agree that being pissy during a DG is unwanted behavior, so is using gameplay tactics that slow down the team. Which is why I'm guessing the BLM was understandably upset. Seeing as BLM's are built for AoE, to render him into a solo DPSer just so the WHM can throw some solo DPS as well is far from optimal. Playstyles are different for everyone but when you impose a very weak strategy I can understand why other people will get upset.

I can confirm, I have been banned multiple times now, they don't tolerate harassment or anything that could be considered offensive, no gay jokes, no racist jokes, no nothing. And they act fast. brb warped into a jail 30 mins after arguement.

Looks like a slap on the wrist is all that can be expected for harassment. What did they say to you each time you were jailed?

Uhh, It's noticeably faster to have 4 Players focus down 1 target at a time, than to have a lone Black Mage try to AoE everything down. Makes the entire run smoother on the Tank and Healer, can flow easily from one pack into the next since we aren't wasting incredible amounts of MP keeping the Tank alive, and TP keeping hate on 4 targets at once.


Highlighted the relevant part, His playstyle is to mindlessly AoE everything in sight and theirs was to Sleep everything around the main target and have 4 people nuke down a single mob. He should be adapting to way the Tank and Healer go through it, not the other way.
His abuse was unnecessary and idiotic.

PS: BLMs are not "Built for AoE". Spamming Fire II and Blizzard II is grand for dealing with low HP adds, but doesn't hold a candle to what a BLM puts out in single target. Same can be said for BRD AoEs, Monk AoEs and DRG AoEs.

^ This. BLM can dish out better damage on single target over AoE easily. While in some cases (i.e. WP speed runs) AoE does make things go faster, when engaging small groups, and not asked to, the only AoE that is decent is Sleep. If we were "built for AoE", then the only encounters we would be decent at would be trash.

Thats funny because ive never gotten a response from anyone after filing a complaint. Not just for harassment, but for items disappearing out of my bags also.

sony is cracking down on people like that too but there going above and beyond. they'll ban you from there games and that mean SOE account, PSN account & tell other companys that your being a prick so if you have the same name on your accounts or have account like facebook and things like that you can lose it too. think microsoft is just starting that kind punishment also.

In Qarn? When the only AoE you have is like... Overpower, Bane, Quick Nock, Arm of the Destroyer (rofl), Rockbreaker ("spammable", oh yes) and the Black Mage with Fire II, Blizzard II and Freeze? I mean, speedrunning WP by AoEing 20 mobs down within 15 seconds is fine, but it's pretty quaint implying that AoE is glorious in a lvl35 instance where half the Jobs won't have any AoE available yet, let alone the decent ones.

What about all the delightful bees that will murder the tank due to no focus, as well? :p

Though, well... I suppose this isn't the point. It's nice to see twats getting the punishment they deserve. :p

They do respond quickly to harassment complaints, assuming it was genuine. 30 minutes for me when someone was literally dishing out "go die" comments to people.

I respectfully disagree and point out that it's a matter of time. If you have an AoE that can kill everything instantly, then yeah. Everything dying at the same time is often preferable. But in an extended fight with a huge party of powerful enemies, the Tank needs to take as little damage as possible. One of the best ways to mitigate damage from enemies is to kill them off. And if AoEs are too slow, killing them off one at a time causes the damage that the tank takes to steadily decrease, making the tank's and the healer's jobs much easier.

If you have a lot of trash mobs that can be taken out in 2-3 hits? Go for that AoE button. That's fine. But if they're impressively built? One-at-a-time is the superior tactic.

Now if only they would actually respond to petitions against botters. The same PvP bots have been petitioned countless times for over a week and they still remain causing a detrimental effect on PvP as a whole making people not want to queue up cause they get bots, which causes queues to increase again causes more people to not queue because it's taking to long.

But hey call someone a dirty name or spam holy in town and you'll get delt with swiftly even though there are already methods in the game to ignore these people.

Hahaha BLM spamming aoe at level 35 is a joke, he doesn't know how to play. AoE spamming is only strong at max level and when you completely outgear the mobs not with synced stats and your strongest aoe removed. He should of single target focused and AoE slept the rest.

People get upset when dungeons don't go how they are used to doing them....I understand that. But this guy was unpleasant fast, and his comments and instant trashtalk has no excuse. Often times i'll be in a dungeon and someone has a different strategy and I feel like mine might be better, however I don't start immediately getting hateful with them. I offer my suggestions and if they take them, fine, if they don't, fine. As long as we get out of the dungeon successfully I'm not going to stress over it to the point I'm being hateful. Once this guy was gone the run went smoothly and the tank did great for his first time. I'm more for helping people learn than trying to turn every instance I'm in into a speedrun. That's not going to help them.

I got a very quick response when I reported a tank for griefing. They asked me to report it quicker next time though. I think they're doing a good job in that category.

If it takes you 30 seconds to down 4 mobs with single target DPS, or 1:15 seconds with AOE and having them all die at the same time, AOE is not optimal. It is the exact opposite actually. And at the level you are for Qarn, AOE is not at all efficient.

With the increase in trolls and griefers etc, I feel that if someone isn't going to report them and choose to "ignore" them they are just giving them free reign to make the game more hostile and unpleasant for players. It took practically no time at all to make a report in game and kick the player that was doing it. If we let them continue to act so immaturely then we basically give them the power to shape the game into the horrible frustrating mess they are, but if we take the couple quick seconds to simply file a report and let SE handle it, they start to lose the ability to get away with it. I for one love instances where we can meet strangers in the duty finder, and joke around, socialize and get the job done without someone acting like a bully because he's anon.

Also not to mention that at that level normal mobs can actually be dangerous, and tanks cannot hold multiple enemies long enough to spam fire 2 until they are dead. Low level BLMs play differently than max level.

We are talking about Sunken Temple, if I am not mistaken. Focus kill bees, no AoE. Bees will mess you up if you sleep them also, they like to wake up and sting people.

Sorry, but unless most of the party can use effective AoE's (which at that level range doesn't really happen), having one nuke happy BLM using AoE's just slows the party down.
