[Dev1068] Materia Exploit?!?!

What happens to a piece of gear that has a piece of "Stat Modifiying" materia on it, when it is available to be transformed into materia itself? I was wondering if someone could clarify this, because here is what I see happening:

Regular Weapon -> Turns into Materia -> Materia Equipped to Weapon -> New Weapon Turns into Materia -> Materia Equipped to Weapon etc. End Result ='s 999 attack, 999 accuracy

What will happen to a Materia Infused Weapon, when it itself turns into Materia? Will the increase in stats be added to the new materia? or will it nulify the equipped materia for an increased chance at HQ materia?

Pretty ridiculous to think you've found an exploit when it's just a concept at this point. Besides that, the obvious thing to do would be to make it so that only the base weapon stats affect materia creation.

Even if there is some sort of "History" with the materia fusion process, it will obviously cap out at a certain point and have limitations to what type of materia can be used on certain peices of gear.

Lets say we can progresivly creat a stronger and stronger attack materia...We could just as easilly speculate that upping the stats on said materia may increase the "Level requirements" to use that materia. Lets say there are 5 tiers of materia.

Minor
Lesser
Normal
Strong
Radiant

Lets say Minor gives you... +5-10 attack when your materia goes beyond that cap it become a lesser materia of strength 10-20 attack. Minor Materia can be used in any weapon lvl 1~+, lesser materia can be used in any weapon lvl 10~+ and in such varying tiers until you hit Radiant Materia of Strength equipable only on Rank 50 items.

Thats one way to assume how the stats will be controled on a growth scale, obviously a oversimplified vision but it's the mechanics of how it "Could" work. For all we know Materia may have no lvl restriction and just have max caps on what the stats can go up too. I highly doubt we will see legacy materia with +999Str and +999 acc.

Maybe you need to clear the gear from all materia first.

Make sure once people master their "All" Materia, they can't just sell it off for a quick 1.4mil please..

Yes, it's pretty much a guarantee that you won't be able to send your gear through the wash multiple times. The materia enhancements will be stored separately from the gear and if you convert the gear, you're just going to waste the original materia.

Wat. It's not FFVII materia, it's just socketed items to add to gear to make it more unique. You can sell materia once it's made.

reading all these materia threads... it sounds to me that most of you guys have the materia blueprint already and you are discussing about everything so detailed... and now even exploit lmao...
Since when did our posts here change any dev. decision BEFORE things got live? ... perhaps slightly changes after, if a whine-fest starts... but... not before. We can discuss it after it got on the many "testservers".

at least the posts of the devs sounded pretty much like it... not a HUGE elaborate system. sounded just like stocketing to me... i just hope that there is more to it but i rather doubt it now and be surprised it im wrong.

God... yet another thread denouncing issues with systems that haven't been released yet.


OP: Seriously go watch TV or something until the patch is out.

You seem to assume the materia system is even that complex.

When it is implemented expect there to be like 10 materia (if that) and when you break an item, you lose all materia attached.

Whoah jeeze guys. Did you even read my post? This is a "Dev Concern Post" asking for clarification on what happens when a piece of gear that has materia on it, transforms into a piece of materia. I never stated this was fact or that I found an exploit on a system that isn't even implemented. I am merely stating that if the system works the way it is described then this is a possiblity. Thus the creation of this post, to get some clarification from the Dev Team.

It's a possibility, you could do this in Crisis Core through that materia fusion system. I doubt that they wouldn't cap the results. They could always just use the base stats, or restrict it so you couldn't create materia with materia equiped on said weapon/armor.

Regarding the question I gleaned from the original poster (Can you generate materia from gear that already has materia attached to it?), I checked in with the dev. team and they said that isn't the current plan.

Well, I suspect you *can*, but you won't get any added benefit from doing so. Either way, /closethread.

As long as the devs' time is being wasted addressing things that aren't released yet, I think Dragoon is OP and needs to be nerfed.

You lose the Materia on that armor upon removal anyways, so the deal here is that you have to be careful when deciding upon which materia to add to your armor.

Is it me, or does Materia sound a lot like gemming in WoW/manastones in Aion? I'd say it's a bit more analogous to your garden variety enchanting, but with "slots", that's the feeling I'm getting.

Not that it's bad, mind you. It'd be cool if materia worked a bit like it did in FFVII, where it could also boost spells of a certain element? Eh, don't mind me.

Sounds like a cross between Wow's system and FFXI's Evolith system to me.

That is what I would like to see, it could serve as a way to enhance effects form certain classes, that way you can actually say you have specific gear for each class. Hopefully they can do something like this later on, after the basics of Materia System have been implemented.

Perhaps the materia could level up as long as its equipped and you wear that armor.

Say if it was a Second Wind Boost Materia, the materia can level up and enhance the effect of Second Wind by a certain percentile.

ex.

Second Wind Boost Materia Lv.1
Second Wind Effect + 10%

Second WInd Boost Materia Lv.2
Second Wind Effect + 15%

etc.
