I hope not. It annoys me to great ends to share gear with a different class. It makes everyone look the same and is not very unique. I prefer each class to have its own unique gear set. In example
Arcanist / Scholar = Unique
Arcanist / Summoner = Unique
and of course the same for BLM, WHM, BARD etc.
On one hand I like it. It cuts down on the cost to gear all my classes. On the other hand, it can be annoying to think I'm queuing as the class I need to be for the gear I'm looking for and the other class that can get the drop is there too.
well only DL and alagan does your AF2 is specific
AF2 is just a different color of AF1, hardly unique. We also share CT gear so yeah.
AND Vanya is the same as well... really, there's not a lot of feasible end-game equipment, and only one set of it is unique, which is just silly and annoying. (And even there the accessories are shared.)
Crafted and dungeon gear is shared by roles (generally...)
Tanks share gear, Healers share gear, Casters share gear. They have the same primary and defense stats, so they can share dungeon loot. Yeah, BRD, DRG and MNK all have unique gear after a certain point (post-50 really, though there is some DRG/tank gear early on) but that's because they are different from each other (DRG and MNK may both be STR-based, but they have different defense needs. And BRD are the only DEX-users for now)
I do expect the Musketeer to be DEX-based and use the same dungeon gear as BRD, and classes to use MNK and DRG gear to be added eventually too (probably based off GLA and MAR though, rather than LNC and PLG)

Well yeah. We get that. And it shouldn't BE like that, is the point. It's sloppy and lazy, and continues with one of the big problems of this game - everyone is cookie-cutter and samey-samey. We all have the same equipment, same abilities, same recipes for crafting. It's freaking boring.
I just want to look different then other people. I want unique ilvl 90+ sets for each class, I want unique skills on each class (other then crafting) etc.
OK, so you want to be forced to run dungeons even MORE to get that one thing you want?
Imagine trying to get something from Coil if there were 9 full sets of armor and accessories...what a nightmare.
EDIT: Also, if crafted were different for each class, I'd bet it would look something like the two sets of Vanyas...the exact same, just one different base stat (for the Role...and most people would just meld them to be the same anyway)
Your AF 1.5 is unique to your class isn't it? Drops will be shared, and always have been, even in FFXI.
At least it would give us something to do/strive for.
To be clear, I'm fine with *some* stuff being shared, which would give you at least a backup decent set of level for new classes, whatever.
But it would be nice to have something else to strive for that'd be an upgrade, and that makes you look different. From different sources.
It'd be even nicer if they started adding some either-or choices with abilities, or some that were tougher and you had to go out of your way to get, crafting patterns that you didn't automatically get with level, etc. etc., so that not EVERY SINGLE PERSON of the same class(es) would be the very same.
it is not such a nightmare, just make it drop 3 different class items per boss.
why they should waste resources and money to develop clone equipment with different skin ? Because they'll all have identical stats
This is why we have wonderful sets of armor colloquially known as "AF."
There will be both common sets and unique sets throughout the game's life. You may have to compete with people for the in-common drops, but the advantage is one drop works for both jobs. If the look bothers you, take advantage of the upcoming vanity system to wear the gear with the looks you want.
Yes they will because Yoshi feels it would stress the community if you have specialized stats for your job to gear for.
Not only that, but casting and healing gear are often just recolours of eachother (Daklight, Crystal Tower, Allagan gear and, from what I can see, even PvP gear). So essentially You share the same piece of armour, just with different colours, between four jobs.
sadly for you, there is no "specialized" stat between blm and smn, since they deal the same kind of damage. both need int to deal damage, vit, determination and spell speed. I don't think it will work wonder making gear with int-blm and int-smn because of fashion.
Special stat like "augment skill" have yet to be seen, but nothing prevent them to make the same equip with double effect like "on blm: this, on smn: that"
I have SMN and BLM both at 50 so I don't really mind. Sometimes, though, I get excited when I'm the only SMN in the party in CT and think I have no competition for gear until I realize I share it with BLM.
I'm more interested in when SMN will actually play like SMN and not some psudo-RDM with crappy pets.
FFXIV has boring vertical gear :(
If your a drg and you can't get drops... Come join our static, it's all that ever drops, we got 3 drg chests 3 weeks in a row, rings, neck, boots, pants, gloves, you name it, every freagin week. It never stops. And when it's not drg, it's mnk/pgl and we don't even have a mnk in the group.
At least this week we got 1 tank drop, the rest was drg/mnk gear and brd accessories.
Horizontal gear isn't any more fun. Stats are not "fun", at least not independently. The loot itself, its looks, and then whether its in any way useful or not is what matters. I'm not really sure how "enhances <blah> effect" is more "fun" than "crit rate + X".
Also, there are multiple sets now at seveal tiers, so it's not like there are not any horizontal options to choose from.
e.g. i love the look of the armor of light and I had fun getting it. That matters to me way more than the stats.
Well, we'll look different once vanity releases (god knows when that'll be though).
Remember how Phantasy Star Online gave you a section ID that influenced drops like Yellowboze (more meseta dropped) or Greenill (more rifles dropped) ... I think we all have one of these secretly in XIV and depending on your party make up of IDs it determines your drops. I know this is all speculation but sometimes the RNG seems to favor certain jobs. I remember one CT run where only MNK gear dropped and then the next run we got the same drops. Was pretty surreal.
I think this stems from the fact that our stats are very basic in what does what, and we only have vertical progression.
If there was more horizontal progression and extra types of stats we might see stuff like:
"firestarter proc up" or "enhanced ifrit egi" on gear. which I think would add a lot of flavor
to the game.
That's all well and good until these gear pieces come out and then the min/maxers get a hold of the info, and then after about 6 hours the gear set BiS lists come out and then it turns into a system like in FFXI where if you don't have a specific piece you might as well just turn the game off and stop playing altogether because obviously you have no idea what you're doing.
I like that there are different gearing options at the same ilevel with not much variance between the stats other than secondary stats because really, if I have a Hero's Ring of Casting, an Allagan Ring of Casting and a Vortex Ring of Casting, I don't think my choices will be judged as harshly than if I didn't have some special ability + ring that will make or break an entire new rotation.
On topic, I play SMN and my boyfriend plays BLM so we're always competing for drops. It's ok, I've gotten used to it personally. I think the myth AF is completely appropriate and accessible for job-specific gear, and the rest can be shared.
I personally see it as more of a good thing than bad thing. I'm sure if this happened to each class, people would be bitching out the ass about how bad RNG is treating them. Well DUH, when you add other options to the pool it becomes less likely for you to get your loot. And for what, because you want to be a special snowflake? They're both casters, logically they should need the same stats. Just like both tanks should need similar stats.
Thats actually how it is right now, secondary stats mean piddle. You're always shooting for what has the most int basically
I should probably elaborate before something is read into it that shouldnt be. Min Maxing is already done. You'll be best going
with what offers you the highest base stat.
You don't realise it but you're also advocating what I am, horizontal progression of gear. You literally are saying is good what I
am saying is good lol. Something might not have as much int as another piece but can offer something else useful
You just said you like options of three earrings..... if theyre all close enough, thats horizontal. but trust me, even with the choices
of those three earrings, they can be min maxed
The big issue is... thats boring as all hell when secondary stats mean so little and dont impact gameplay in any meaningful way.
Crit rate for raging strikes fester is about the only cool thing, and even crit rate doesnt change thigns that drastically.
If it doesnt matter to you one way or the other.... why argue against it, other than to play devil's advocate?
