RNG Logic [Concerned] Question

Can SE explain how RNG makes it possible to see drg/brd loot in BCB on every single boss for 3 weeks straight. Or how 95% of the drops in CT are Onion Armor? Literally run CT like 10 times, onion armor every time.

Call me w/e, but I feel like SE has weighted rng towards drg/mnk/brd. Seen 3 tank pieces in bcb in 3 months. Seen 1 tank piece in 10+ CT runs. But I've seen enough other crap to drop to completely gear 4 drg's, 5 mnks, and 8 brds.

And this isn't even just about tank loot. We've cleared turn 1 every week since September, what 16 times, and the healer gloves haven't dropped once. But we have 5 pld shields, and 4 DRG chests, etc.

I seriously think drop rates are bugged, or they are based on certain weather and times of day. Because I run stuff the same time every day, and get the same drops almost everytime I run.

There is no weighting. The items are chosen randomly from the known loot tables. There WAS an issue with certain items being in the wrong loot tables resulting in one of the chests in turn 1 more frequently turning up DRG than anything else, but that was fixed.

For every time you've gotten DRG, some other group has gotten healer gear just as many times. Or SMN. Or whatever else.

Well, still feels bugged to me. Last 2 weeks were after the fix, drg chest twice in a row.

You know what's funny is that back in 1.x it was acknowledged that then rng implementation was pretty terrible and needed to be overhauled. Do any crafting or melding? I swear that the rng we have now is the same one.

Random is random I guess. Last week run of CT, about 70% of the drops are either for whm(sch) or blm(smn). This week however, just last night 1 of the runs consisted of pld(war)'s items with 1 monk item dropped.

Bro I'm a monk and I did 9 CT Runs and all that dropped was BRD and TANK gear that's life, the loot drops are random sometimes you win sometimes you lose. To say Monk always drop is a lie, my last few runs just proved that!.

You might be on to something... But oh dear god, the RNG in 1.0, aaahhhh.

Wait you see bard loot and drg loot, I wish to be in your party. 12 weeks of coil 1 left side bard drop 2 accessories and that is all. Still though would rather go back to 1.0 randomness than this weekly lockout(which is even more painful when you go by week for week and still never see an item drop)

It's random.. I've seen very few tank pieces in the Coil.. like 4 in total in the months we've been running it. On the other hand, the other group our FC runs has seen enough to deck out their tanks. We're just unlucky. Sorry. Level up a BRD or DRG and go to Coil with it, then the tank stuff will drop ;)

On a side note, we just seem to get healer items.

I wish you were in my server :/ We could mess up with the RNG since I never see DRG and to me it seems every chest has tank gear. You never see tank gear but you see plenty of DRG gear. What would happen if we ran dungeons together?
RNG would be totally confused and would not know what to drop. I guess we would only see Bard gear.

Ummm... I did play Version 1 and don't remember any such statement. Gonna need a citation on this one.

Lol. My bard has only 2 drops since September. Actually 3. One of them was the chest they didn't need at all. Rng sigh. I rarely see drg too. :( still waiting on my turn 4 visor. Gonna get myth though .

I'm from Coeurl. I ran CT this week. We got 3 dragoon onions, 1 tank gauntlets, 1 prostitute tank legs, and I got my monk top.

RNG is RNG is RNG. Sometimes it feels like the gods are plotting against you or for you. Goods were on my side that day. Heh.

They all are, but the odds of you seeing brd, drg, mnk, pld, war, whm, blm, smn, sch is the same as you seeing drg, drg, drg, drg, drg, drg, drg, drg, drg.

If the odds of any given drop pattern from CT is 1000/1 and there are 5,000 CT runs per week 120 (24x5) people, on average, are going to see that drop pattern.

Random Number Generator does exactly what its name implies; generates numbers randomly. We are predisposed as humans to see patterns where there are none.

My point was that RNG in games is never truly as random as say a human throwing a die. Doesn't mean it doesn't work. Games tend to have Psuedorandom generation, ie it's all based on an algorith. Without basing the algorithm on some random real life event or whatnot, it's not truly random.

That's why you can fail 3 89% HQ attempts in a row.

RNG is a bitch. I've yet to see DRG loot in BCB aside from earings. I've looted a ring and bracelets that were "need" rolls to monk, though. Every damn week for my group is tank or black mage/summoner loot.

I did 5 CT runs back to back, and got 2 healer drops and 18 monk drops. Yep, I'm not even exaggerating, I would only see monk drops on every boss, and all of it floor'd. Coil still only drops DRG crap too :(

To me there seems to be a trend where a lot of the same shit drops for one person/group for a certain job (or 2). So while someone might say it's just RNG because another group gets other stuff, it looks like they get a TON of that other job.

Just an example to clear it up:

Group 1: lots of healer and drg loot.

Group 2: lots of tank and caster loot.

I guess the keyword here would be "lots of". Point being, certain groups get a lot of loot of only a select few jobs, 1 or 2. Following the trend posted in this thread and from what I've heard people say in game. That to me doesn't seem like correct RNG.

RNG doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the rng is so bad and then your locked out. Wow had lockouts and rng but the rng wasn't anywhere near this bad. I almost always got what I wanted with-in 3 runs not counting trinkets. This has been 16+ runs and the same shit drops everytime.

20 runs straight now, no healer or tank gloves, more mnk/drg gear, no blm gear, no healer gear, 1 tank drop not counting the shield everyone has 1 of already.

If this game isn't favoring melee drops, I'm not human and earth is a spaceship.

We are 5/5 on Allagan Tassets of Aiming from Twintania if that's of any help.

It's becoming a little infuriating.

I don't understand rng as well. I've been doing coil for 8 weeks and never saw pld body or hands drop, cleared coil t1-4 just now and on t1 it was both maiming accessories and on t4 drg head and mnk hands...wtf how is this possible

whats wrong is their random number generator is horrible, they are probably not seeding it and it's spitting out the same tiers of numbers over a long period of time.

Remember that a pseudo-random number generator isn't actually random. My understanding is that it spits out a long number based on a starting number (the "seed") and just picks some digits to give you your "random" number. If it's badly designed, you can get strong correlation between successive numbers and if it's not reseeded it will repeat even if it's well designed.

Some people have been recommending leaving the zone you're in if you're having trouble with RNG during crafting, but I don't personally know if that helps. I do fall into the camp that suspects SE's RNG sucks (having failed high fraction things crafting way too often)

Makes me wonder if the time/date also affects the randomness. Ever since my group changed our raid schedule, the same bunch of stuff keeps reappearing.

Actually, technically, it's not. It's pseudo-random. They tend to use "random" strings of numbers (seeds, pre-generated) and then just sequentially go through them. CPU cannot actually generate a random number as, by definition, their hardware is designed to be well known and consistent (the opposite of random).

But yeah. "Random" is "random."

If anyone needs the Garuda Sword, team up with me! I've seen it drops like 50%, yeah every second time....
while I'm just "not again^^" the PLD always writes "finally".

RNG works globally, not only for yourself.
