The Actual truth about the housing system.. please read..

The truth behind the FC housing system, is for legacy characters to get together and spend their gil to buy a house.

Yoshida purposely ruined the economy on all server, so that their is no possible way for one to make money to the point of over 500K or 1MIL.

He crashed the housing marker so that legacy players would see a decline in housing price, and that the market is deflated to the point where everything is affordable, so that way legacy players will get into the mentality of, well I have all this money, and the FC house price is a lot less from where it was when it was introduced, their is only a few large housing to buy so let me grab one so I can be the first. And in the mean time they will still hold onto some of their gil to play the game comfortable and still above norm players.

So once all the legacy gil has been eradicated on over priced FC house, yoshida will have a clean market economy state to work with, and then will introduce new items and recipes for everyone to make money on, and then everyone on all markets will have an equal opportunity.

So in-turn Yoshida planned this and people are falling for it. People may think he is stupid and so forth but he has stated that he wants to level out the game economy on all worlds, and then open server app transfer between legacy and new worlds, and other numerous claims revolving around the game economy.

They did this because their Walmart servers couldn't handle every FC in the game getting a house. End of story.

I disagree.. Your logic is flawed, odin, behemoth spawns do not crash the servers and that's upwards of 300+ ppl in a single location.

If that was the plan then it's a big fail.

So far between 0 and 3(?) houses have been sold per legacy world. FCs who bought them are buying mostly small and medium, and they are getting most of their gil from the market wards (i.e. by selling to other players for their gil). So yeah, some of that is money from v1, but most of it comes from what was paid out by ARR.

All the posts I've seen say legacy players started with 300k-500k gil, and that ARR provides only about 100k while doing the main story & leveling your first class. People went in expecting houses to cost a few hundred thousand each (per FC member) and instead found it will cost around 4 million per FC member on legacy worlds. So even if an FC is all legacy, most still can't afford housing.

And on top of that, Yoshi-P announces prices will be slashed by up to 90% in a couple of months. It's like, would you like to pay 50,000 for a car now, cash up front only, knowing that in six weeks the prices drop to 10,000? Even the rich would wait in a situation like that.

It's more like, "would you like to pay 50,000 for a paperweight right now, cash up front only, knowing that in six weeks the prices drop to 10,000?"

Housing is useless (no buffs, no advantages to owning), attaching multi-million gil price tags to it is stupid.


At least a car provides a utility in that it will get you from one place to another, and a nice car will do it in style.

Housing in ARR provides no utility, it is pointless.



This is no different from the devs releasing a special minion and charging 250,000,000 gil for it. All the minion does is follow you around, it provides no actual in game usefuless.

That's not to say that the devs should get rid of anything that is strictly vanity (minions/titles). Those things are still fun, and there can be a value attached to them, and they can be a decent minor gold sink to balance the economy... you just can't bank on them to sell at astronomically high prices, because they won't. Would someone who has 300 million gil sitting around pay a million for a minion? Maybe. Will they spend 75% of their bankroll on a minion? Of course not. Especailly not if the devs come out a week after the minion goes up for sale and say, "oh, and in 6 weeks the price will be 50% of what it is right now... and we might drop it much lower than that if necessary".



I don't know if the devs understand this or not. No one who has 250,000,000 gil sitting around is going to spend it on something that will provide them zero utility.

Give people an incentive (a small, non-game breaking one), and then they (at least a few of them, the Bill Gates types) will empty their bank account.


EDIT (since I'm at my post quota of 1 for the day):

I understand that down the road there will be things these FC houses can do. Right now, they do nothing.

It makes no sense. At least throw players who shell out ridiculously amounts of gil some kind of a bone. Maybe offer them a special piece of furniture if they buy before the New Year that will never be offered again. Or offer them an additional minor buff, or reduced transportion/repair costs.

Something, anything to provide incentive to buy now rather than wait till later.



Finally, the other red flag deturring people from impulse buying is that no one knows if small/medium/large plots are going to have different levels of usefulness. No one wants to spend millions of gil on a small plot, and then find out in 6 weeks that the feature they want (airship port?) is only available to large plots. This is another weird aspect of the housing fiasco. The only difference between the three types is the amount of (currently useless) items that can be put inside of said house. Some clarificaion from the devs would be nice, but, it's possible they don't even know.


I'm really only posting here because I find it fascinating that a game that has done so many things so well, has screwed the pooch so horribly on this aspect. (and because I'm bored because 75% of my office is out for the day) :)

Agreed on the excessive pricetag, but apparently there seems to be a lot in store for the future of the "paperweight". I don't disagree with you, mind you, but to be honest, aside for repair money there is very little to spend on once you hit 50, and if you do a little dungeon rotation everyday you should end up with some pocket money that really have no place to go but sit on a retainer. The game per se does not really need you to hoard gil(like, for example, FFXI did. A merit player had a lot more daily expenses). That is assuming you have no interest in playing the market to amass a fortune.
I guess it all depends on 'how fast' you want to get there and the prices are so outrageous to block people from the vicious circle of
"see new content, buy new content, add checkmark to the 'completed stuff' list, get bored after 3 days from new content" :)

Imo, it would be fair if they converted the outrageous price into FC seals and add a series of FC quests to obtain it. this way it would cut on people's complaint on how the FC is not truly a shared feature. I believe they can come up with a lot more efficient moneysinks than this

this all said, I will try to get there with my FC cause yes i want the clubhouse :p I'm thinking in organizing FC fundraising events, like a particular dunegon run day, or treasure hunting parties to devolve the gil to the cause. no big money makers, of course, but just a way to bond and have fun and see it slowly come together.

I don't think you understand that these houses WILL have utilities and they are already guaranteed to have just utilities that FC lots can only provide. The wealthy players have said it countless times, they are just strategically waiting for the prices to go down. There is no rush in buying. Being patient will save millions of gil. Just because they can buy it does not mean they should spend gil recklessly.

In truth, the housing they brought out is barely being used from just talking to people in duty finder. A majority of FC even from the Legacy servers are just waiting for the price to go down. There have been only very few people saying their FC bought a house, but that is like maybe a few percent of the majority. One person did say their FC bought the largest plot for like 125mil and at max FC level got a king moggle mog mount, whether this was true or not I don't know. I didn't even bother investigating it since housing is ridiculous atm.

This is the truth.

Yoshi offered a lot of excuses but in the end, housing is instanced. There are only so many servers they could stand up committed to housing - if everyone bought a house then it would overwhelm their infrastructure. So he came up with this crazy plan where no one will be able to buy a house until SE has time to put up more servers. Well its working. No one is buying. I really don't think he realized the extent of the economy side-effects this would create. I think he had his back up against the wall - he had promised housing with 2.1 and it wasn't ready. But he had to release it so the best he could come up with was to release it in such a way that no one (or very few) would buy, giving him time. Then he spouted some blah nonsense about gil inequality and RMT.

The most ironic thing to me was that he promised furniture would re-invigorate the economy and give people something new to make. LOL. If there are no houses, no one is going to buy furniture. So idiotic. This really makes me think in the end he had no choice -- he had planned to make housing more accessible to begin with but something happened that caused them to have to delay.

As a legacy player, I haven't seen any furniture for sale on Hyperion, and I haven't heard of any FC buying a house. People aren't going to spend three hundred million for a freakin plot. Not a bad theory but it fails due to human nature.

We bought a medium house, we worked hard for it, we came together as a FC to get it. I love it! get over yourselves. Sure there may be lots of opinions on why the prices were so high. One thing i know is fact, I would be glad to see other stuff cost that much if it meant my entire FC working together towards a common goal and having a blast while doing it. Everyone wants everything handed to them on a silver platter. How bout you work hard to get ahead? isnt that what Real Life teaches you? or you just gonna work at McDonalds the rest of your life?

So your FC (Fairy Tail, Cerberus) raises some money and calls everyone else lazy freeloaders? I suppose that speaks for itself.

From our worlds' perspectives, SE paid 2/3 or 5/6 the price of your house, but won't do the same for us. That is why many people on the top two world tiers are complaining. Not because houses aren't free. Sure some of us had extra in "lifetime savings" from playing v1, but from all accounts that covers less than half the difference in price. Plus most of our FCs have lots of new players who had no extra savings.

so i guess words will be put into my mouth that everyone takes WAY out of perspective. think of it this way, mcdonalds =$8 an hour, Psychiatrist=$150, who worked harder to get where they were? who put the TIME and EFFORT into it. hell, i started at $6.25 an hour, im making $18 an hour now because i worked a little harder and got a degree. Same can be said for this, everyone wants a new car (house) at $8 an hour but complains when only people who make $18 may be able to afford it. Complaining rarely gets you ahead in life. And plus, they have stated prices will be going down, no reason for you to freak out as long as you and your fc work towards the same goal.

and yes, i do feel your pain, i also agree that pricing even on your worlds was ridiculous. But we took only a short while to make the money to get our house. even if you have to pay more it shouldnt take you that much longer once prices start dropping a lot more.

you blow money on stuff you want because you want it. Real life does indeed teach you that. Want it early, pay more, Want it whenever, buy it when its cheaper.

It looks like you're trying to pick a fight, and what you're saying just makes rubs me the wrong way so I'll play devil's advocate.

I decided to level Disciple of Magic as opposed to Crafting for my first levels so I could spam dungeons while there were people who wanted to do them instead of grinding fates all day (which would be faster). I didn't take part in the crafting boom when you could make millions in a day. 100k was ~20% of my gil, and I gave it to my FC so they may be able to buy a medium level plot one day. I'm not super rich, but I'm sure if I tried hard enough (I'm fairly sure I can automate farming mats and throw down a few $100 on RMT easy), I can buy a plot too.

That is - I want to enjoy the game. I want to help people run for their relic weapons and be excited for them when they get their first Titan down. I want to random dungeons with people I've never met and see how they play. I want to craft things when I feel like it and for people who I feel like helping. Or craft for myself so I have a bit of cash stashed away for myself and my friends when they really need it.

I don't really enjoy farming maps, mats, selling runs, measuring the worth of people in my group, and "work hard" (doing mindless tasks for hours on end) in this game to "get ahead". And by getting ahead, it seems you're talking about getting a small virtual place where you will spend less then 5% of your time. I'd rather play naturally and buy a house as prices fall.

If I wanted to work, there are plenty of better places where I can be a workaholic.

1.rmt money used would cause your entire FC to lose their plot and gil invested into plot.

Why are you talking about professions which generate income, in comparision to the frivelous purchasing of something that provides no utility at this piont in time?

Look at it this way:

Brand new 2014 Honda Accord is $21,680

Brand new Rolex New Style Men's Day-Date Yellow Gold President Champagne Diamond Dial - 18K Fluted Bezel- Presidential Bracelet 36 MM 118238 watch is $28,100.


One of those products is going to get you places and provide a ton of utility.

The other is going to rest on your wrist and you might check it a few times a month to see what time it is. (truthfully though, you're probably going to go for your cell phone or just look at a clock in a room 99% of the time you want to know the time)


Only two types of people buy the $28,000 rolex... people who are FILTHY rich, and idiots.

Someone who saves up every penny for years to buy a rolex is an idiot. The ulitity provided by a wristwatch is minimal when compared to comparable products in that pricerange. (i.e. a car, which will get you places you need to go, or the downpayment on a rental property that one could use as a source of revenue generation)


Right now, FC housing is a rolex. It is a status symbol and nothing more.

Also, it's depreciating in value every 6 hours. Which makes it a poor example to a Rolex, which is at least made out of precious metals that could potentially raise in value over time.



My point? Stop comparing FC housing to working a job. Housing isn't a job, it's a purchase. There are wise purchases and there are stupid purchases, right now FC housing is a stupid purchase for everyone outside of people who are, again, FILTHY rich.

If you and your FC are proud of your purchase, that's great. If you all had fun working together to pool up the gil necessary, again, that's awesome and more power to you. Don't let me tell you that you didn't have a good time doing it if you know you did.

Trying to tell others they are stupid for not "working as hard" (in a freaking video game) is ridiculous though. There is no incentive to work hard for something that is going to drop in price every 6 hours (scheduled and announced) and which provides ZERO utility at this point in time.

And for the love of God, stop comparing FC housing to working a job! Working a job is a source of revenue generation, which is in no way comparing to purchasing FC housing, which is a complete gil sink. A more apt example would be a McDonald's employee spending his entire paycheck on Air Jordan sneakers on release day... it's a stupid (luxary) purchase because you're never going to get a RoI (return on investment) on a pair of Air Jordan's and you're going to get minimal utility. Everything Air Jordan's can do, a pair of Converse All-Stars can do at a fraction of the price. You're paying a ton of money for a brand, not for actual utility. For someone who is fility rich, who cares, money isn't a object. For someone who is looking to make a rational purchasing decision, Air Jordan's are a TERRIBLE investment.

FC housing do havw some perks to it right now. No specific features but definite social status perks.

If you aren't aware of it right now, the battle for ward 1 in all three cities is beginning on some servers. Like players who rush to get server first, its a rush to be on ward 1 of the three major cities. If your any of the Power house FCs or a FC that wants to be recognized, you'll be want to be on ward 1 amongst all the other powerhouses and not ward 5.

I've definitely seen a small FC lot boost recruitment levels for certain guilds. Instead of spamming for recruitees, recruitees are now spamming them.

Its not completely entirely useless.

Never played 1.0.

First ARR character, story mode had me with over 300k gil.
Dunno 'bout you people, but I can make decent money with gathering, crafting, treasure hunting, doing dungeons for philo etc. Just added another 500k to my FC's bank, we're just over 15m right now and plan on buying one of those "125m plots" (initial price anyway) eventually.

Sold some level 70 HQ Weapons for 100k a pop, 5 sold so far, oh hey another 500k to the guild bank..

What's the problem with gil-generation?

Peisteskin Treasure Maps - 1.7k to 5k per player per chest. Party of 8, with a Peisteskin map each, is easily over 100k if you get no 5k maps at all (8 maps x 8 players x 1692gil (minimal reward))
Each day, or stack up maps and do them all on the weekend (you can put 'em up on the market board for the max price if you need to store multiples. 1 deciphered, 1 in inventory, 1 per retainer, rest on market boards.

So thats for 8 players, 100k a day just doing a few treasure hunts, thats also not counting all the mats and the chance for rare valuable stuff.

Now if you have a FC of 24 people, thats 300k a day, or 2.1m a week. 24 is a small FC, right? Small House were like 8m initially or something on my server... in a month, you've got your small house.

If you're crazy like me, you've started leveling Fishing on alt characters. Because 1-50 fishing takes about 30 hours, and allows you a map per 18 hours too, of your choice (peisteskin!).
So if you grind this out for 8 characters on 1 account, you make yourself 8 peisteskin maps a day once the Fishing grind is done.

Generating Gil right now is not a problem.

I thought the chick who gave the Ul'dah housing quest was a bitch. She was rubbing it in my face i couldn't afford one.

I have been saving for years she goes. Only the elite can afford these. It's not a problem that well off adventurers can afford these houses. Etc

I like your "truth". Mind to explain me why this "truth" is not applied exclusively on legacy servers and non legacy are not having a small plot at 1mil gil top (reducing day by day) , something " an FC of 3 members can afford" as promised by Yoshida? :rolleyes:

How is it that people think video games are fair. you need to work your way for relic weapons, for end game gear (Coil). houses are the same. not everyone has these things but those who try and work toward it get them. I'm honestly perplexed that so many people are convinced that wealthy folks won't waste scads of money on worthless stuff, just so they can be among the first to have that worthless stuff. That kind of ostentatious spending is EXACTLY what wealthy folks are noted for both in-game and in real life! It boggles the mind that folks even on my relatively low-economy server are still spending 300k-900k on crappy Bluebird minions, and yet that is exactly what is happening. Housing is priced on another order of magnitude - but it is also a lot more showy than a minion is.

It may well be the case that SE set the bar too high on Legacy servers, but I will be shocked if we get all the way to the ninety-day mark without all or most of the prime housing locations being sold, even on legacy.

And, whether or not you believe this was a "trick" Yoshi-P devised to drain away gil from the rich, that is exactly what will happen. If a fabulously wealthy individual or group of individuals has their eye on that PERFECT spot of land, absolutely they will go ahead and spend an extra million or two rather than waiting another few weeks and risking it falling into someone else's hands!

The wealthy are waiting for the prices to drop, but they sure ain't gonna wait until the prices reach minimum. Eventually, a threshhold will be reached where plots start getting bought more frequently, and then you'll see an absolute rush of folks scrabbling to get the prime real-estate before it's all gone.

It may well be the case that SE set the bar too high on Legacy servers, but I will be shocked if we get all the way to the ninety-day mark without all or most of the prime housing locations being sold, even on legacy.

That's largely because SE's "legacy price plummet" program will reduce unsold land prices on Legacy Worlds to 4M/15M/50M by then. That's 1/5th or 1/10th the starting prices.

Perhaps the two worst things that could have happened from SE's perspective was if land sold quickly (lack of server capacity to handle it) and if Legacy Worlds were in FC houses months before New Worlds could afford it (big PR problem). #1 set prices extremely high across all worlds, and #2 doubled and quintupled it on the Legacy Worlds.

Yoshi said openly that they don't have the server capacity to support every FC that wants a house, and that they won't be able to add that server capacity in the near future.

Everything else is an excuse. The "trick" is getting you to focus on issues like entitlement, price disparity across servers, and gil generation. The truth is that the feature wasn't ready, and Yoshi is banking on most people's reading comprehension being too poor to understand that.

Sad part is many people really can't read properly.

Well I don't know what you guys are doing but i've made butt loads of gil with no crafts leveled. I just gather, sell philo items, questing and dungeons. You can easily make 500k a month easy w no crafts so I have no idea what u guys are doing.

@Whiz: Philo mats are down to 3k on our server. I'm glad you enjoy farming but not everyone does. The market is dead and no one is willing to spend money because they are saving for their FCs home. And questing and dungeons? You make very little out of both of those (assuming your talking about dailies).

No im sorry I don't think you really understand the situation. Even if it was a physical server issue problems, why would he purposely crash the market on all servers, and has stated numerously stated that the gil situation in the game is a defining factor with a lot of things such as world mergers and open transfer for new chars to legacy server. 1.0 users were promised that we would keep our gil with the denomination and it was a huge point to keep 1.0 players from not quitting the game. Now that 2.0 has landed he has to do something to stabilized his screw from 1.0 and not taking away all of legacy gil.

Your quote that you post are more of yoshida lies which the community seems to eat up. Server space and problems are not the problem in the game, all of these were worked out with the separation of the legacy worlds, na/eu, jp, fr and so forth. The fact that 400+ can gather at one single point in the game world along the same space on the server without crashing shows clearly it is quiet set up to handle the influx of new players. Instance events BTW was originally created in such a manner to manage single point concentration of players and player traffic. If you do not understand server structures or game architecture you are very limited in the way you think and lack a great sense in seeing the entire picture.

Don't be surprised when I get perma ban for pointing this out to the dumbs and shedding light on the backend work from the dev or Yoshi or whoevers fault it might be.
