Yeah, a lot of people logged in but now I'm guessing we weren't supposed to.

You're actually not supposed to be logged in - they're testing the login system as a part of the maintenence - they've said so in the latest news update found here: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...3cbb81ac0bf13a

Sure but unless I'm blind isn't that a minus symbol before the numbers? If so I don't think it's an accurate representation of the server's playerbase.

The answer to that is in the patch notes. You need to choose your Data Center the first time you login after this patch.

I don't get it, if you haven't played in a while, why are you on the forums? I haven't played Street Fighter IV in a while, but I don't spend time in the capcom forums talking about it. Just curious, what's the appeal of just reading about the game on the forums, why not just play the game. (yes yes yes I know we are in maintenance right now, but that's not the point cause you said you haven't played in a while.)
