Casters got actually a buff

About Virus I totally agree with you. Together with Rain of Death nerf/change it will make things harder for all of us.
Holy was a nerf, but I can't blame it. It's a fair nerf since WHM is supposed to be a healer class, yet it used to deal more AOE dps than a Dragoon/Monk.

Also why didn't you mention Scholar? Isn't it a mage class? Lustrate got a HUGE buff from 20% to 25% (meaning 15% more HP healed every 60 seconds). WHM got a useful Cure III just in time, or Scholar would have been better.

Scathe nerf was good. Nerfed kiting a bit and attacking while moving (reducing ranged classes advantage against melee classes), while still leaving it possible in extreme situations. If you used Scathe for rotation during Blizzard 3, just replace Thunder II with Thunder and use it more often at a lower cast time, so use Thunder during UI3. You will actually gain dps since you spend less time casting.
This was made to help melee DPS, so they are competitive against ranged ones who can make dps while moving away from aoes.
Blizzard II was never a good rotation move for good AOE damage, was pretty situational. Now it still is.

SMN lost Thunder but it can be replaced with 2 Ruin II (same cast+gcd time, less damage if no crit, same damage if crits, more burst damage and blind), and got Blizzard II for semi-decent AOE rotation with Shadow Flare, Miasma II, Bane and Blizzard II. Maybe now it's useful for content that need AOE damage, since Shadow Flare + Miasma II + Blizzard II + Pet will be pretty good. That's a useful replacement for Tri-Disaster (that still is a disaster).

WHM got buffed lol. Finally Cure III is useful. 50% MP reduction when procs and cast time on par with Cure II, also 6y range instead of 3y. Almost an AOE Cure II that actually costs time.
Medica II wasn't "nerfed". Ok, dot is 50% less powerful, but lasts more. Meaning you can use Medica II less and get more burst healing using only Medica, that is faster, uses less MP and generates less hate.

In response to Miotoss: You already used Ruin II together with Thunder? Use it more. 2 times Ruin II takes 2GDC and Thunder takes 1 GDC+2.5 cast time = 2GDC. 2 Ruin II deal less damage then Thunder, but can deal good damage if crit, do blind and also more burst ald less wasted dot. Have MP problems? Strange, 2 Ruin II use about the same MP as 1 Thunder (just a mlittle bit more).

Cure 3 is not useful , it still sucks. Its also 6 yards not 8yard .

I'm on the fence for medica II, I suspect it'll play out much the same for most content, my only concern is if it'll be fast enough to still function as is when healing up from T5 Fireballs.

I wouldn't call Cure III useful just yet, this is purely a quality of life change to make it a little more useable in a few niche situations, I'll still be using it (sparingly) in precisely the same manner as before. Not sure where you are getting the 50% cast time thing from, it's just had it's cast reduced to be in line with our other cures.

I'm not sure quite how you are working out that 2 ruin II's equate to a thunder cast though!

Good summoners already spammed ruin 1 and 2 with no mana problems, while having thunder up. We lost a main dot in our rotation with nothing to fill its void. Wow I get to spam 1 more ruin or ruin 2 instead of having a dot up that does the dmg of 4-5 ruins yea not a nerf at all.

I dont know if the op dosent know how dots work or not, or if he knows math, but dots allow us free time to do what ever we want while doing dmg. This nerf is big. Expect a 10-12% decrease from them.

I think the OP was a bit misinformed, but the fact that it's cast time is in line with the other cures is indeed a nice change.

Cure III is still super situational despite all the changes. Most mechanics in boss fights require the group to spread out to start with. There are VERY few situations where the group is huddled together to actually make a Cure III useful for it's MP Cost and healing. Not to mention they removed the 100% crit and changed it to use less MP instead.. So yeah, nerf to healing.
Medica II was mostly used because if it's burst regen ability ie T5 Fireballs. You were able to cast it and go back to focus on single target heals or use CDs. Now you have to spend more casts and CDs to top of a group after heavy aoe damage. I never had issues with hate on Medica II so that was definitely NOT their reason for changing this.

I really hope it wasn't a knee jerk reaction to some stupid tactics some groups used in T2.

Yeah all in all, between all the threads of Cure3 uselesness, the only use people would find was cause of guaranteed crit...and now it's gone. And range still sucks. I fail a lot in seeing it as a buff.
And I also agree on Medica2, the important part was the immediate health gain, if I want a slow continued HoT there's regen....eh.

So really it's not a buff, healing classes got buffed in terms of healing, tanking classes got buffed, melee classes got buffed, casters DPS classes got nerfed. I can't see it as a buff personally, it's simply a nerf.

Every single DoM except Scholar got nerfed in some way, with SMNs hit particularly hard. Incorrectly spinning things around doesn't change that.

lol casters got a buff, what!! >.< I dont get the logic smn got a straight nerf with no thunder, blizz 2 lol and blm got nerf with scathe even if it was only used for situations where needing to move and keep dps up. Just dont see the logic.

Please tell me you aren't serious here.

Thunder is 210 potency over 18 seconds for 212 MP and requires 1 GCD. That is 0.9906 potency per mana.

Since you obviously don't know how Ruin and Ruin II even work, I'll explain. They're the exact same potency. They have the exact same effective cool-down. Ruin II requires 133 mana and gives a blind, Ruin takes 79 mana and requires a cast time.

DoTs can crit. Thunder ticks can crit. Ruin can crit. Ruin II can crit. There is no difference there.

All this is doing, is swapping 1 casting of Thunder every 18-33 seconds for 1 casting of Ruin.

So, we're losing 130 potency every 18 seconds and we're saving 133 MP. I don't know how you think Ruin II actually works, or why you would actually be suggesting that it is remotely a replacement for losing Thunder from our DoT rotation, but you really need to learn how the game works before you attempt to downplay what is essentially a major loss to SMN DPS.

Reading this you clearly have never played a mage class, at least in 2.0. The Thunder cast time overlaps the GCD, meaning that Thunder only takes 1 GCD instead of the 2 for Ruin 2. Ruin 2 is also considered poor because it costs more mp than Ruin with the only added benefits being blind and the ability to cast while moving.

If you don't understand the most basic class mechanics please don't try and comment, it's not helpful to anyone.

Bane is what really put me over the edge...I can deal with not having thunder. But why leave the Bane cap at 3...Have to burn 2 stacks of atherflow just to get DOTs on a large group. No other Job/Class to my knowledge has an AoE ability that is capped on the amount of enemies it can hit. If BLM could only hit 4 targets with an AoE they would be raging all over the place. Was hoping for a better upgrade for Bane, but this is just meh...
