To Many Builder of the Realms

This is just a kind of rant but... Their are to many of us who have all 8 crafts maxed. Hours on end spent shouting in all zones every 5-15 min while watching tv and not a single person psting for crafting help for 3-4 hours sometimes.

Personally I'd like to see a FFXI like system where we were forced to pick 1-2 main crafts. Or allow us to learn unique recipes only for 1-2 crafts. That way it splits up the Builder of the Realm population into more unique individuals... Master Weaver, Master Carpenter, etc... which would also make us more sought after/in demand as crafters.

I know SE doesn't want to block/lock players out of anything but they could easily develop a reset system (like with stat resets) that cost a lot or takes a lot of time to do that way you can switch if you want to but its not worth it for 1-5/10 crafts. more of a semi-permanent change.

Not to state the obvious, but crafting isn't intended to be your main class/activity. If you want to play that way, that's fine, but lots of people like to be self-sufficient, and lots of others like to only rely on people they know for help, rather than paying random strangers shouting somewhere.

Because once you've gotten a few crafts, it just gets ridiculously easier to level up the others. So not only are there a ton of folks with lots of or all of the crafts, but then there's also nearly nothing anyone really needs you for. Materia slotting is kind of a joke and 95% of the gear we can make isn't actually wanted. Potions and consumables are at BEST meh. We can only really sell to each other as other crafters level up more crafting classes.

That is the life of a FFXIV crafter right now.

The reason I leveled all crafts is to craft everything for myself and for FC. Your suggestion, on the other hand.... no. Rare recipe would be cool but I'd rather see it obtained by some other ways and not getting myself locked into it.

So basically you want serious crafters to have armies of alts, making the 1 character per server sub model a weaker option. Currently the biggest use for an alt is having a separate weekly myth cap to gear up multiple classes, which most aren't going to need/care about aside from possibly the people that are super serial about world firsts.

With a specialization system any serious crafter would just have an alt for each craft. Limiting a character does not limit what is available to the actual player. Just means they visit the login screen more often.

Maybe in the future when we get harder crafts that require people to put more effort into their melds the herd will thin out a bit (not that most of the melds are all that rough - just have to do half of them 8 times). We don't currently know if they're planning to add better crafting gear or not as they're adding higher level recipes (which may eventually be designed assuming you have all the cross class skills available). I can certainly see the main 5 class specific pieces staying around for quite some time. Might see a new belt/accessories a few patches down the line, though.

I agree somewhat with OP's complaint. Crafting is an investment. The best investments return something of value. Right now, investing in crafts is returning smaller and smaller rewards as the market saturates. Ironically, among the best ways to make money as an all-50 crafter is by making crafting armor/accessories for your own competition.
Do I want the FFXI system of specialization to return? No. Am I underwhelmed at reaching Builder of the Realm in December? Yes.

I think being able to spend myth on a profession directly would be kind of cool. Like have to buy 3star recipes with myth points at 2.3. Sure eventually you would get all of them but it would take a long time.

Every crafter has all the same recipes. It would be nice if I could make my crafter better than someone elses. This is just a pipe dream though.

Was more of a way to burn leeves then a main class/activity. Didn't even really start crafting until after SCH SMN BLM & WHM were all 50. Its just underwhelming to have spent 3-4 mil leveling 8 jobs for almost no reason other then to repair my own gear.

Another random idea would be to specialize melding (base the success rate of overmelding off craftsmanship & control). As it stands having a 45% success rate on first overmeld(I know this isn't the case for all items) regardless if your naked or not is pretty silly.

Pretty much what everyone else has said. Locking out a single character with just see crafters having alts for each craft like we did in FFXI. The major issue and one that I can simply not for the life of me figure out how to fix is that crafting is pointless. If they made crafting gear be BiS than there would be less reason to do end game content because face it most people don't actually play just for fun they do it for the gear. Once the vanity slots come out as well things like NQ Vanya will be something that you can actually sell though because people will probably want it for the looks.

It would be interesting if they could introduce group crafting to make use of all of those "Builder of the Realms" people running around.

Imagine this -- in the FC workshop, there's a mini-storage area for the supplies needed to build the airship and probably 8 or 9 workstations set up around the airship area to allow multiple people to work on it at the same time. It needs (effectively) a couple thousand synths of varying difficulty and pulls from the materials in the mini-storage area to make it. Instead of having a NQ/HQ result for most of the parts, have a normal/reinforced result where HQ gives you the reinforced automatically and NQ gives you a component to use for the reinforced recipe.

Eh, it probably won't be like that though.

I don't agree with the idea of locking people out of crafts.

I would however like an extra tier of progression beyond level cap that encourages specialization.. Not necessarily locking someone out of mastering multiple professions, merely time and resource intensive enough to be prohibitive in the same way a PvE player is bottlenecked by Coil lockouts and tome farming.

I'd also like a system that didn't so heavily push players toward diversifying in the first place. Part of the reason there's so many "I do everything" crafters is because you're not gonna be a very good level 50 DoH until you're level 50 in two or three professions other than the one you want to play (unless you happen to really like one of those 'must have' disciplines I guess).

So, in a game where the battle classes are complaining about lockouts, you want to add the same thing (except it would be a PERMANENT LOCKOUT) to the crafting side of the game?

To be somewhat fair, crafters originally WERE intended to be a main class/activity, which brought a lot of people to this game. 2.0 basically threw that all out the window (why I say "somewhat"). A lot of us want that back.

I don't like the idea of lockouts for crafting, though.

I think the biggest problem with crafting atm is the leves. It's kinda sad when you can get 5 levels in 8 leves and not even have to craft the items yourself. I miss the grind from 1.0, it was no where near the grind in xi but it still took some time to cap a craft. Same could be said about the gathering jobs. As it stands now the markets are just flooded with mats. For a game that's supposed to last years there really isn't any long term things to do.

The reason the markets are flooded with mats is that leveling a gathering class is way too much of a grind. If you don't pay attention to what sells, and only gather (for example) mats the same level as your BTN/MIN (maybe this maximizes XP? who knows), you have to gather several stacks to get to the next level (especially at higher levels), even with rested XP, food, and the GC buff. Everybody else is doing the same thing, so there are more mats on the market than will ever be used up by the crafters.

I agree, I have all 50 DoL and have a surplus of mats that I can't even put a dent in on my retainer. DoL were grindy in 1.0 as well but what balanced it out was due to crafters actually using the mats to level. The leves for crafting give far too much xp and there is really no reason to actually grind your class unless you're out of leves. Quests handing us gear instead of relying on crafters is also making it pointless to use most mats. One could argue that you could use HQ gear to level but at the current state the game is in its all fate grinding and you can just use GC gear for that.

I honestly like the idea of raids like coil dropping mats that crafters could use to make certain gear. Kind of like what XI did with the voidwatch gear. There were HQ versions of the pulse bodies that dropped from the mobs but you could also use mats from those fights to make NQ versions to sell on the AH. Lower stats yes but they were still very useful when you couldn't get the drop you wanted and/or wanted to use it on an alt without farming the mobs and wasting all your voidstones.

I didn't play 1.0. I didn't have the expectation that crafting would be a main class. HOWEVER, it has become my main activity. I've always enjoyed crafting in MMOs, andin games that limit the number of professions you can have, I often would drop a max level profesion to level another one, sometimes repeatedly.

I would like some uniqueness added. Whether it's jobs, or stat choices, or even if it's only aesthetic. If there are no lock outs of any type, then everyone is exactly the same :(

Crafting has accidentally become my main activity. It just seemed obviously beneficial to level them all together. I don't have tons of time to play, so I have 1 level 50. My main battle class Whm is level 36. All of my DoH and DoL (except fishing) are 35+, most 40+. CRP was my first to 50, and there's a very good chance Alc, and Cul will follow very shortly after and Gsm won't be far behind. Wvr, Bsm, Ltw provide a lot of gear, so that will soften the difficulty of leveling, but will probably be more of an 'as needed' basis. Arm is the only one I struggle with - but it's a simple choice of lots of steps, or lots of running - and with the other 7 the last one is just the home stretch.

If materials continue to be reasonably economic to buy for leveling, I may not get my DoL up until I need specific stuff for gear (so at the same pace as my battle class).

I for one would like to see them add uniqueness, I mean if everyone masters everything, everyone is all the same, Im pro self sufficiency, but also pro market health and interaction.

The crafting system is pretty good, it should play like a main aspect of the game. in this day and age I somewhat exspect it ( I mean vanguard came out 5+ years ago and had a rich crafting sphere ((if nothing else lol)).

Having multiple areas of play is good for longevity, I would like to see crafters as well as DOL and DOW classes all be allowed to specialize in some area, diversity is fun, Im finding that I really love this game even tho I generally hate super linear games, I feel like ti could use some actual choice that affects who you are and gives you more of an indentity.

1.0 tried to get crafters out in the field. They even participated in a city defense called Halmet (some didn't like Halmet's repetitiveness, but that's besides the point, I am talking about the concept).

They originally wanted to find ways to get crafters to come into dungeons, too. We even were supposed to build airships that could fight each other. I really want to see them bring those ideas back.

I love crafting but it isn't going to be great for a while i'm afraid. We can't even craft the highest gear and that was a decision the team made. So when patch 2.2 comes out we may have ilvl 110 gear from Coil 6+ but the highest crafted will be ilvl 90. It will always be one step behind. I just want more depth something that can make me more unique that the next crafter. Right now the only thing that stands us apart is how much money/time we've wasted on materia and that's it.
