Did you know there is a button you can press on the keyboard that crashes the game and disconnects you from the server?
Did you know there is a button you can press on the keyboard that crashes the game and disconnects you from the server?
And this is a new and relevant bug report?
If you feel this makes the game unplayable, you can visit Microsoft, do a search on disable windows key, and you will see two reg files, one to disable and one to enable the windows key.
That being said, yes, I too wish for them make alt + tab function like in most other windows applications.
Hello,
Thank you for reporting this concern. I will be moving this to the general discussion section so we can receive some additional feedback and suggestions.
Thank you,
SQUARE ENIX Moderator
Thanks Loth, I think your suggestion is so incredibly helpful that I am going to volunteer to send postcards out to all 600,000 people that purchased a copy of FFXIV to let them know that they can visit Microsoft, do a search on disable windows key, that they will see two reg files, one to disable and one to enable the windows key, and a reminder to backup their mother $%#@ING registry lest they irreparably harm their computer by noobishly editing it.
Be nice to the mods! :p
heres some feed back, the poster above is fanboyish enough to leave it to microsoft for the windows button crashing the game even though the game SHOULD NOT crash when ANY button is just pressed. that is what "log out" is for.
let us be able to minimize full screen like every other MMO please.
speaking of "log out", is it so much to ask for "shut down" to be added?
My game shouldn't crash when the windows button is pushed. It also shouldn't crash when iTunes, running in the background, plays a music video which forces the application to the foreground. My game shouldn't crash, even in window mode, when User Account Control pops up to verify something.
This isn't Microsoft, Apple, or whatever's fault. This is something Square-Enix needs to resolve. But yeah this is a pretty beaten down topic and has been a PITA issue even with FFXI
It definitely needs to be fixed, I can't run FF14 in full screen at all. Its just a driver error, witch is something we shouldn't have to mess with.
Use the steam overlay, and don't expect this to be fixed until like 6 months after PS3 release.
Easy solution for this. Remove the keys from your keyboard completely and shut down your computer. Fixes all issues with FFXIV.
Another thread to repeat what's already been repeated. I'm so +1ing this.
...
"And they're whining for the copy-pasta terrains here."
Yeah. Some people has the rinse-repeat problem here.
I haven't seen it said already in this thread so my suggestion to fix this bug is to [spoilers] not press the windows key [/spoilers].
while i agree that it is a total bugger that the game crashes in full screen when pressing the windows key or alt tabbing. until they can get around to fixing it. And they really need to fix it we as user will have to deal with it.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216893 (disabling the windows key)
as mentioned above steam offers a overlay for games launched with it, simply press shift+tab after launching the game in steam to access it. this will allow for web browsing while the game is launched and in full screen. and if you dont already have steam installed.. what the heck is wrong with you =P http://store.steampowered.com/about/
The most easier solution would be not to play the game until they get their directx working. Works without any problems
Also that moderator post was awesome. Next week, someone will probably discover you can't kick someone offline from a LS.
easy fix, get a program like sharpkeys (most of these programs are free), and disable the windows buttons..... they are pointless anyway
Feedback and suggestion:
Don't have the game close and disconnect when fullscreen is lost (like nearly every other game I have ever played)
*blinks* uhm I hate to say this... but that's why there's a windowed mode so it doesn't crash when you do things like hit alt tab and or when you accidentally hit the windows key... from what i remember it did the same thing with ffxi until they implimented windowed mode.
I made this bug report on behalf of a friend of mine that recently started playing FFXIV and got disconnected from a guildleve and failed it as a result of pressing one button on the keyboard. The mod moved it here for discussion and now you white knights are embarrassing the entire community by defending A BUG because you get off to Square Enix. You should think about what you post and the consequences of it, because this isn't some random forum where you can voice your stupid opinion with no consequences. Every time one of you fails to support something that improves the game for newcomers you are making Square Enix a stupider company for listening to your feedback.
Lol did the square enix apologists really tell people to go to microsoft and have the windows button disabled?
Really? Is that what we're doing again, defending and justifying the game's frank industry standard-failing nonsense?
No other games forget what directX they're supposed to be running when they're alt tabbed off of, when the computer calls for control of display, or any of that ****. Just Square Enix games. That is PATHETIC.
Their programming is behind the times, with lazy console spoonfed skill sets. Not going to cut it.
What the reason for it? Security? HELLO this game is a cheating botter's paradise. Fail.
There is no excuse for this. This game freaking out when anything but it has control of the display is a feather in the cap of how mind-boggling behind standard this game is.
o.O wow I was just pointing out that that's the reason to as why they implimented the whole windows mode because of things that happen to that. There was no need for hostility on your part of that reply. I remember the same thing happen when I played 11 and it would log you out and crash the game things happen. Anyway it's up to you or your friend to use windowed mode or not *shrugs* no skin off my teeth. And quite honestly it was put in the general discussion where people could voice their own opinions on the matter. So without further ado. Thank you very much. You have a wonderful day today sir or maam and I hope you start to feel better down the road.
Negative, dude. You posted because you support this stupid bug, which takes your ability to reason effectively into question. If you have failed to indicate that you want this bug fixed now would be the time to stop making excuses and say you would like this bug to not exist.
Thanks Peregrine. People will do anything to justify the money they've spent. If I could afford it I would buy out all the white knights so they would get enough self-esteem back to post rationally on these forums. It's sad that $50 or $80 is enough to completely shut down their reasoning skills.
and thats why windower existed in FFXI X_D
i still dont get how a new gen mmorpg fails in the most simple thing ..............
Where did I say in my post that I supported any bugs to stay in the game again pointed out that they tried to correct said issue with the windower mode because people complained in 11 that they would not be able to stay in game and go off to check out other things on their computer. Thus was the reason why the hacked windower came out then SE themselves implimented it into the first FFXI. Now they automatically included windower mode in this game without having to wait years for their customers to complain and whine about it. And quite honestly I'd rather use windowed mode instead of the full screen but then again to each their own.
Really people just don't have the self-control to not whine about seeing criticism that they've already seen. Thus, they end up getting stuck defending ridiculously stupid causes like the game forgetting its own display settings if the computer doesn't perpetually hold its hand.
no windowed (full screen) mode in FFXIV ....u are forced to use programs like shiftwindow , steam ect
anyway why the game crash on ALT TAB , or any other thing is beyond me....
Who cares, they're thinking about it. We'll know for sure.
The fatal flaw, and the one that's apparently not being corrected, is that you never make this mistake in the first place as a respectable, or even official, game developer. So many errors in XIV are simply never events for a game maker.
This is like if Derek Jeter took off to third base if he got a hit. You do that when you're 7 and have never hit a ball before in your life.
this is so easily fixable by the end user, probably took more time to sign into the forums to complain than to fix the issue, autohotkey, or any other of the options available will fix it, autohotkey also allows for easy movement of the game around multiple monitors and a lot of other uses
