My prediction is a 4 hour maintenance, extended by 2 hours near the end of the first 4 hours, about 5 hours after the servers come up.

Yeah it's a common complaint, but at this point I think we all have a certain amount of solidarity in our hatred for these by now. Also, figure it might be a decent PSA for other people considering taking off.

"Our" hatred? I know not of what you speak, unfortunately.

I pretty much understand the no more than 24 hours maint they posted Officially. However I tend to agree with OP and if this is anything like SE maint for ffxi and ffxiv of the past we will most likely see emergency maintenance for the whole next week on and off till things stabilize. I would not recommended taking time off from work or making plans around being able to play.

4 hours followed by emergency? So not the 24hrs SE is predicting?

See I figure even if everything goes perfectly smooth and the servers are stable, all the new dungeons/quests/etc are going to be MOBBED by people so just like with the Lightning Event it will probably be a better idea to just wait a day or two for the initial rush to go.

Oh nice, we're already complaining about emergency maintenances before they even happen.

Taking a day off for a video game is a stupid idea anyway.

That being said: We're already facing a 24 hour maintenance, so I don't predict a huge amount of it afterward.

Apparently I am 'stupid' since I took off all of next week and half of the following week. Hopefully the game is up other than the scheduled maintenance but if not I will do something else for a few hours. My vacation is use it or lose it and I didn't have anything else going on to take time off for...

I'm taking the day off work anyways. Not like I can't do other stuff with my time if it does go down for emergency maint. Considering the primals are AVERAGE i65 or higher, I doubt those will have congestion! I'll die all dayyyyyy.

"We all" eh? I live in the U.S. and none of the maintenance times have encroached on my free time to play the game, except perhaps once, where it encroached on my time by 1 hour. When this occured I decided to just, get this, play something else for the remaining hour. Crazy, I know, but ever since I was little, I was aware of this amazing truth in the world, that truth being that there's... more than one game you can play.

It's like having another nut, that you can play, outside.

Ok serious question and I want everyone bitching about this to answer me please. Think back over all the games you have ever played. Think really hard. When has a game ever added content and we the players NOT expected a weeks worth or more (depending on the game) of fixes and emergency maintenance and shut downs? (No free to play crap references though, seriously those aren't even games.) Anyone? Yeah, cause this happens in every game. Why must people keep bitching about the dumbest stuff? Go outside for a day, do your Xmas shopping, something! Is your world so narrow that you get riled over a 24 hour shut down of a MMO?

Nothing will ever compare to vanilla WoW Thursday nights when they took the servers down before instance resets. So many BWL runs ran late / were canceled due to planned maints getting extended. What can ya do?

I'm not taking more time off, I need to make this content last for 3 more months. No point in rushing through it.

Good thing those "emergency maintenences" he sees in his magic crystal ball will all be happening between midnight and 8am according to the soothsayer.

At least I have GTA 5 to play in case maintenance gets prolonged.

There have been 5 emergency maintenance periods (all worlds) in the last 60 days. None of them lasted more than 4 hours... Exaggerate much?

Also, taking time off of work for a video game is addiction-related behavior... Just saying.

Taking one day off to play a game you've been waiting for on the day of its release is fine. It's called work/life balance.

I might be mildly jelly of all these people with workplaces that let them take time off in the Christmas period. Mine wont let me have even a day off unless i broke both my legs and fell off a skyscraper into a pool of acid. And then I'd require the written opinions of 10 different doctors before they'll even consider it.

the maintance will be of a maximum of 24 hours, for patch and major changes to datacenters. Your prediction is wrong on a entire different basis.

I remember the last time SE did a 24 hr maintenance. It was a number years back in FFXI. I came up on time then crashed and burned after 1 hour of play. Down for another 24 hrs while they located and fixed the problems. With that in mind a couple of short emergency maintenances won't bother me.

Was there a major patch released in those 60 days with a host of new content? was there a sudden influx of players? No.

OP is right, and this will be similar to launch with maintenance every few hours for a couple of days at least. Brace yourselves.

Even if everything about the patch was smooth, I imagine you'd still have serious capacity issue on the instance servers, and if you do get in it'd be massively lagged, especially on any that uses the new check position every 0.1s since that obviously has to create even more server lag.

Tho setting days aside for new mmo patches is never worth it. Gimme a coastal vacation anyday.

you can bet there will be hot fixes.

It's probably better to take 20th off for a 3-day weekend. A lot of rushers would have been finished with Crystal Tower and their myth grinds, so there will be no problem getting an instance open.

Exactly. People take vacation days to go overseas or join a marathon or whatever, but if it's video games, it's addiction. How sad. :3

1. there's a reason why 'never play on a patch day' has been a commonly accepted rule in MMOs for more than 10 years now
2. there's a reason why smart people - who still need to take a day off for some reason - take off the day after patch day (and even that is risky)
