Im not sure if they are worth using on my WAR considering the lack of DEX warrior needs, alone with the importance of parry for warrior, and if so how do prioritize stats on the melds?

They are good for both classes. Overmelding is more towards your capable budget more than what you want.
IMO they are better than the hero accessories and on par with allagan accessories (argueably better) for tanks. You lose a lil HP but you gain a butt Load of STR DEX SS DET. Some of the ilvl 90 Accessories dont have PAR or ACC on them, which make the Grypho accessories more appealing. For Tank you should meld it with VIT and Parry, if you can afford some IV materia you can throw in some extra skill speed, Determination, or crit on there too.
Gryphon Accessories with IV melds are BiS atm :)
An HQ gryphon skin will prioritize vitality/parry.
I believe the maximum is 10 vitality and 6(?) parry.
its then determination and crit afterwards.
Not sure why people are saying its BIS since its been debated forever now and its not really clear.
Rose Gold jewelry. Much cheaper to meld STR than VIT. Only difference with Gryphonskin is dex, and screw dex. >.<
And yes, it's fine for a WAR. Compared to i90, you give up 5 VIT and 4 accuracy or Parry to gain 9 STR, 12 Crit/8 Det (if you stat like I do). Comparing offensive stats vs. defensive is the old "apples to oranges", but I'm quite happy taking the offensive stuff.
Hero Ring + Allagan Ring
30 VIT
27 Parry
11 SS
16 ACC
2 DEF/M.DEF
vs.
HQ Gryphonskin Ring x2
20* VIT (Meld VIT IV & II per ring)
18 STR
18 DEX
18 SS
24 ACC
24* Crit (Meld S.Aim IV & S.Aim II per ring)
16* Det (Meld S.Might IV & S.Might II per ring)
24* Parry (Meld B.Dance IV & B.Dance II per ring)
HQ Gryphonskin attacks a bit harder and faster; if you're hitting the tier for STR/SS/Crit or DET. Helps with accuracy - if you really need it. As of yet I have seen nothing conclusive and/or definitive about DEX and it's relation to the Parry stat. Someone was trying to test it but the results - as far as I know - were inconclusive.
Hero + Allagan is higher DEF/M.DEF, VIT, Parry but you miss out on the STR/Crit or DET; and DEX is still a big "?" (this isn't a make or break amount of DEX imo and shouldn't be a focal point for making melded accessories.)
If you have a iL90 ring I don't think you're going to feel the benefits with a single Gryphonskin (outside of a placebo effect).
I haven't really compared the rest of the accessories yet; but if you have the money and time Gryphonskin can be used across many classes (DRG/MNK/BRD/WAR/PLD).
edit: Bold and colored is currently the best argument for making a set of HQ Gryphonskin and melding them. More inventory and less time taken to gear up your other Jobs when they hit Lv50.
mostly because there's some confusion over what 'BiS' actually means.
if you see BiS in regards to a tank and think, that must mean the tankiest tank possible (maximum eHP) - allagan/myth accessories are BiS
if you see BiS and think, maximum possible stat totals - melded i70 things
more to the point, twintania has been downed a lot, by a whole lot of tanks wearing less than allagan/myth accessories.. so there's room to wear some dps/hybrid/whatever gear and speed the kill up
...that's not making you a 'tankier' tank though, BiS in that regard anyways, has always been the highest ilvl _of Fending stuff, and likely always will be
whether you're gearing for the highest possible eHP or something else is more of a personal decision though, hence the confusion
tldr - if your goal when gearing is to be harder to kill than anybody else, stay away from melded stuff, you only want the _of fending suffix
if your goal is something else, by all means buy some jewelry
That's not really the point. DEX is like adding more +parry. It's hard to argue that Gryphonskin are not better on an absolute scale. Additionally, Rose Gold bracelets and rings are not capped on parry, and everything but rings have to be melded with +acc to meet your cap. If you want to sub in some cheaper Rose Gold melds, that's your prerogative, but they aren't really that cheap. Hell, main cost driver is the tome mats; beyond the 200k for the initial craft, you'd be hard-pressed to burn 100k on the grade 3 materia which run between 4k and 8k per on my server.
Rose gold stuff isnt any cheaper than Gryph stuff, they both require the same amount of materials.
It might be cheaper on your server if you buy it from AH but that would be a waste of gil in any case.
Also 45 points of DEX isnt trivial if you care about your parry/block rate, and as a tank you should care.
Btw i estimated losing 5% of my total HP to gain 15%-20% of damage and a tiny amount of eHP (STR/DEX affects parry) by wearing HQ griph over i90 accessories.
Its a very, very good deal. Too good to pass.
lol this Gryphonskin BiS poppycock again?
Anyone noticed you only ever see WAR's advocating this? ....or are they LTW's disguised in WAR AF+1?
Don't worry my WAR friends, come next week we'll actually be able to tank things and won't have to waste tome mats/materia on a miniscule increase to STR/DEX to make it look like we're actually capable of contributing to a run.
Yeah because 45 points of STR/DEX is "miniscule" :D
And lets ignore accuracy and everything else, as it doesnt matter!
If anything a gear set to specifically tank TT would be a situational set.
But still, its a moot point, there arent many videos of WARs tanking TT in the first place, no matter the gear.
I will let you wonder why :P
But i agree with you math has been done and anyone can look at the numbers and choose.
I know but he asked "how many" so i guess one or two videos wouldnt be enough.
Im sitting at 8300 and something with gryph gear, food and party buff.
Still i wouldnt mind 9000 if i had to tank TT, but its a very specific scenario.
As OT on 1-5 i find i90 accessories are only taking away dmg and hate (grabbing better hate with a single tomahawk isnt something to understimate) while giving me HPs i dont need: detrimental to my role.
Strangely, all the WAR's that have done it seem to be using actual tanking equips :/
I'm not saying that Gryphonskin sets don't have their uses (hey, those AK bosses are easy these days) but just giving up on tanking stuff like TT and Twin Dreadnoughts and relegating yourself to trash a DRG could probably handle doesn't make them BiS.
EDIT: Nice sig btw Maqaqa :)
How many videos of DRGs off tanking 1-5? :D
Btw you dont have to tank double dreads, there are T4 strats developed around a WAR MT that does not involve tanking both of them at the same time.
So the only fight where you NEED i90 accessories is TT. And even there, you dont really NEED them, it has been done without.
It will be even easier after the buff, when the ability to absorb 20% dmg on every death sentence will require us even less HPs to survive DS while still having a decent HP pool left for safety.
Also please notice i suggest to get BOTH accessories set. But its obvious to me one of them is BiS and one is situational.
Well, objectively, SE could have done a better job balancing WARs and PLDs. On top of that, there is selection bias.
People are silly.
At the end of the day, you can clear all current content with either set, so it's really just a matter of preference.
The crafted accessories (Gryphonskin set + Rose Gold Earscrews) offer more threat and more damage which is great for speeds runs and off-tanking. The ilvl90 accessories are more effective HP which may help you survive during progression.
In an effort to optimize, the tanks for my coil group wear full crafted accessories to farm Coil quickly, but they are both collecting full ilvl90 sets for 2.2.
Reasons I use Gryphonkin over Allagan tank accssories:
1. Allagan tank accessories are a myth in my group, have yet to see one drop over the course of 10ish weeks
2. Group can do turns 1-4 one shot barring any derps, currently practicing twintania
3. If I can do turns 1-5 with gryphonskin then allagan tank is not NECESSARY
4. If I don't NEED allagan tank, then why not increase dps a little while maintaining survivability? Considering putting on full DPS allagan accessories, lord knows how many mnk/drg drops we've gotten so far -.-
5. Gil is easy to make, stop being lazy and farm/spiritbind stuff for your materia needs.
6. Till they release constantly harder hitting content then allagan tank accessories are not NECESSARY. Note I'm not talking about predictable spike dmg like twintania.
7. I'm a War and I don't intend on playing PLD else i'll fall asleep while playing so I'd rather increase the PLD's already retarded great survivability by not lotting the allagan tank accessories when they drop.
2.1 buffs may change my view slightly if Twintania is better tanked by Warrior.
Reason 5 is the exact reason why I wouldn't use Gryphonskin. Spent too much gearing out crafting classes, just be lazy and use Darklight accessories.
Im sure the actual dps classes are blown away by your amazing dps contribution during turn 1-4. Well worth the money and hours to get that wasted drg/mnk loot 3 minutes faster.
It is worth it for any serious progression group, and the increased damage and threat from crafted accessories is very noticeable.
Threat boost is most noticeable in T2 (left path) and T4 (AoE).
Increased damage is most noticeable in T5. Our off-tank is usually top 3 on Conflag damage.
It's noticeable from the Tank's POV, not the party's! :p
Unless the party is REALLY BAD (a SCH buddy was running a parser last night in DF AK, and my Shield Oath'ed PLD was out-DPSing the BLM... some players are totally hopeless...) or you're having real trouble with short bursts of Spike Damage... (Conflags?) ;)
