Gathering Skills or GP need adjustments.

Right now, Gathering is a bit too basic.

When I'm gathering materials for Cooking for example, I'm literally just waiting til I get 500 GP and then using the skill to get +2 items per gather.

It's similar on unspoiled nodes, just with a ton of waiting involved.

I honestly suggest SE make gathering skills more interesting, or make GP regenerate faster.
Perhaps even toss us some gear that increases GP regeneration.
Cordials aren't good enough, they aren't very available, have a long cooldown, and are only 300 GP. Most of the time, you can sell them on the market board for more than you'd gain from gathering.

You know you get +5 GP with each swing, right? In the time you waited for 500 GP, you could've cycled through way more than 2 nodes (which is what +2 yield basically is) while regenerating GP quicker. Lazy people don't get results.

I enjoy gathering, but it's really boring to cycle through four nodes before I use an ability. I would much prefer if there were some very low or 0 gp abilities thsat were worth using, even if their value was minscule.

Maybe give us a "buff" ability that uses like 5 GP, gives like 5 gathering... There could 4 buffs to pick from Gathering, Perception, Int, Dex (only allow one at a time) - so if you're really close to meeting the requirements for a node you can switch buffs.


This would also require some tiny amount of thought that might benefit human beings more than bots / rmt? I'm all for ANYTHING that gives human thought an advantage over bots.


Maybe additional human input would be nice too? When I'm farming an item 99% of the effort is running to the node. Then I just hit the same button 4 or 5 times... and every lap or so I get to do something more... or I can just let GP accumulate a longer while :/

To control the flow of materials to keep the economy stable, would you rather mine and use the skills when it\\'s available, to help, or use the skills often with very little reward to go with? If you combine the best of both, you\\'ll see every gathered material go down to be less than what NPCs would sell it if they did. Now I do agree they should change it to be more fun, or more rewarding, such as by adding additional mechanics to the current system. I would personally like to see something like a random chance for the node to refill or other things like that, because wouldn\\'t like something good happening occasionally.

Now in this case the OP is complaining about how it\\'s designed, which isn\\'t very fun, but I agree with Lyrinn. It\\'s going to take a long time if you are just sitting there. It would be like a car, if it\\'s cold would you wait while it\\'s warming up before moving or start driving so it warms up faster?

Are you dumb? I never said I was standing around or lazy. I was saying that when constantly gathering, you only get to use skills once every 10-20 nodes.
Please refrain from posting with that logic...

gathering is boring in every MMO, I have no idea what you are complaining

But it doesn't justify developers not trying to make it more interesting. :p

I do agree that GP needs a faster way to regen, or they need to implement a recipe for Cordial...

There was no mention of using other nodes in your post, and the only indication of what you are doing is "literally just waiting" until your GP is back to 500. Look up the word literally if you don't understand why this means something different than what you claim you said.

I'm pretty sure the waiting bit refers to the unspolied nodes only ("It's similar on unspoiled nodes, just with a ton of waiting involved.")

I agree that the GP system requires some adjustments.
Same with some of the skills.

For example:
Brunt Force and Deep Vigor.
In a system where you can get to a maximum of chain #3 on normal nodes and chain #4 on nodes with +1 gathering attempt, a skill which grants you 100% success on your 6th gathering attempt (chain #5) is useless.
You would have to use Ageless Words or Solid Reason (both 250GP) 2 times on a normal node, just to be able to get a 100% gathering attempt.
It's much easier to just activate Unearth and Sharp Vision to get 100% success rate AND higher HQ chance for 4-5 gathering attempts instead of just 1 or 2.

Ward skills:
While they are ok for farming clusters, the ammount of crystals and shards is too low for the GP cost.

And don't lie to yourself thinking SE tries to control the economy or the ammount of materials that way.
If they would care about that, they would do something about the bots and hack-users who flood the market with crystals, shards and any other material.
It doesn't matter if a bot can farm 500 or 1000 shards per hour because they gathered 24/7 for months now, and just one of these bots running for 1 week could farm ~120k shards (~1 node every 20s, teleporting between nodes).


Increase GP per gathering attempt from 5 to 10.
Chance Brunt Force/Deep Vigor to chain #2 and only one use per node.
Increase the number of crystals gathered with a ward skill to +3 and the number of shards to +5 with a passive buff of the skill at level 45 (so low level farming bots can't take advantage of the skill).

Not a bad idea. I think the wait time is kind of annoying myself too. I am relatively new to gathering, and just last week discovered cordial potions. Very useful in leve quests in a pinch.

I think the regen should be a little faster. It would just allow me to get things done a little quicker.

My biggest peeve is that my GP is at 0 when I switch to the jobs. Would be nice if it started out at full. I understand this would cause a problem with people switching in the field to replenish their GP, but maybe limit this to only functioning while in a sanctuary. Something. It's just annoying. If I am just going out to gather materials it's not so bad, but when I need GP for leve quests it would be nice to see it regen a little quicker. But then again, maybe it would make leve quests too easy?

I could get behind that, but instead I would suggest just make regen increase while in a city like gridania. This would let people switch and gather gp faster, and if someone wants to wait in town for the boost in regen, they could.

This is clearly meant to be used (only) on unspoiled nodes - so it's not useless but not extra usable either.

if its meant to only be used on unspoiled node's it should be a lvl 50 ability...

You can also use it on quests, which helps. Just a bit, but it helps.

Should of scaled the gp regen with your level and scaled the gp you recieve with each swing as you level. Also why cant you still get the gp if you miss not really a big deal. The cost of abilities is way too high either increase the gp we recieve or reduce ability cost.
