Yoshida: In this patch, we are moving the game from "Reborn" to "Awoken." We chose this title because it is the theme of patch 2.1, where the powers which have been locked away and hidden will be exposed at last. For the story, "Awoken" will be a theme of the new quests in the main scenario. We have also planned sidequests in addition to the main scenario which will focus on Beastmen and a revolution within Eorzea. I hope everyone's looking forward to it.

Will any new characters appear?

Yoshida: Yes. There will be new characters, and, of course, the reappearance of old characters. Additionally, there will be some old enemies which will be "awoken" as well.

Will the large amount of additional story content continue in the future as well?

Yoshida: Patch 2.2 is actually scheduled to have about 1.5 times the amount of story in patch 2.1. The same applies to new characters which will appear in the story as it proceeds forward with each patch.

Was it easy to decide the title for this patch?

Yoshida: Actually, we did decide this pretty quickly. We worked with Michael, who's responsible for translation of the English version, and asked him for a key word that worked nicely, and "AWAKE" came up. Because this is the first patch, we decided from the onset that we would continue to use the word "REALM" from the original game title, so it came from those ideas.

So that's how you decided the title.

Yoshida: Yeah. After incorporating "REALM," the proposed title was "A REALM AWOKEN" and we decided to go with that. After we consulted with Oda, who's responsible for the world setting, we came up with the representation of this as a Japanese title. As a result of that, since everything in the world is waking up, we decided to use plural form "we" [[referencing the Japanese title]].

Then you set out to design the logo?

Yoshida: We had to ask Minagawa to hurry (laughs). I had to apologize that I gave him very little time (laughs).

1) New story in every patch
2) New Characters/Some old Enemies being "Awoken"
3) The chose the title " A Realm Reborn" because of the Power that are locked away will be revealed!
4) "Awoken" Is the theme for the Main Scenario.
5) Patch 2.2 will have 1.5 times more story then in 2.1
6) Leviathan will be in the Main Scenario in 2.2

So... is the game now called FFXIV ARA ( A Realm Awoken?) XD.

Side note: We won't have to wait for extreme modes as HM and EM will be in every patch from here on out.

I hate those subtitles (that seem to be turned into the actual title for FFXIV, considering how big they are)

Welcome to MMO's.

It's no trick. Just good ol' fashioned content gating (that's what levels are too by the way). Amongst other things, it can potentially coax players into trying other bits of content that they might have otherwise not given a second thought about.

my vote would be for "A realm deserted.", time to get outta here.

Really looking forward to this!

I was thinking earlier today and I haven't really enjoyed the 'end game' to this game at all thus far, namely due to my experience with the community on that side has been largely negative and there being no duty finder for Coil. However I dragged myself away from the abusive shouts at Revenants Toll for the first time in weeks and starting doing other small stuff and once again appreciating the games environments and beautiful soundtrack (especially the city state themes) and remembered how much I enjoyed the game up until that point and remembered why i fell in love with it in the first place.

More selection of end game that is DF enabled, plus the promise of more main story content and more ways to enjoy the game casual/solo have me excited again like just before launch :D

Have you ever been to Coil? It's not something you should want to Duty Find, if Titan DF groups are terrible, Coil would be 100 times worse.

EDrm, methinks the titles should have been switched. Reborn would signify some sexy new content & SE maybe gaining some of the subs they lost, and Awoken would signify the heroes waking up and SE having tons of subs to begin with. xD

Regarding gating content and loot lockouts:

When did loot = content? :P

Loot is the sugar that helps the medicine go down but. Gimme some more stuff to do with said loots, otherwise it just is to look pretty! :p

That would only happen if they give Summoner a new ability for it...which means all Jobs/Classes would be getting new a new ability(abilities?) which would be nice. Though what would Leviathan do? Titan Tank, Ifrit Melee, Garuda Mage, other job would be a Healer role but that's why we have SCH.

Leviathan was a healing (kinda) pet in XI. Some kind of passive 'encure' on his attacks that did limited AOE healing in a small range might be appropriate. Maybe an AOE Esuna for his enkindle attack.

Perhaps they will get him on the next level cap increase.

Really interested in Nero's return, not to mention he's wearing an Allagan visor as well. Maybe the pure blood Garleans are descendants of the Allagan or something.

hybrid? yoshida said they plan to add hybrid roles

The patch looks gigantic man.

Other games wish they got patches like this.

And theres still a ton more to come.

This just in. This patch is now "Final Fantasy XIV Online: Hildibrand Returns"

I don't really get why people are concerned about CT loot. If anything, we should be concerned about CT being tuned for people just coming out of Titan for the first time when there are a lot of people geared from running Coil for weeks.

I'm concerned about the content being trivialized and insignificant, but hopefully it'll become a source of gearing for alts; that'll help alleviate that.
