Leaving party against TOS?

Hi! I was in a party last night (duty finder) and one of the members was being sarcastic/a jerk. It was just WP run and he was complaining where I was tanking the boss. The basic TLDR is that I said I had no problem leaving if he didn't like how I was tanking. He responded with saying that he'd report me if I left the party. This made no sense to me, as from my knowledge leaving a party for any reason isn't against the TOS, he was stretching it saying I was impeding his gameplay (even though he said he could reque or replace easily in 15 min).

I then asked if he preferred I stay in the party and idle, because I didn't want to play with him and rather just leave and reque (tanks have short reque anyways). He then said he'd report me for idling, basically threatening to finish the dungeon 'or else'. I said "fine, I'll leave in a few minutes (was talking to my LS about if he could report me for leaving the party)" when he just said "reported", along with other obnoxious remarks.

I could understand reporting someone if they were idle for a long period of time (which I wasn't.. I never even went idle), but can you really report someone for leaving your party? I inquired using the 'ask question' to a GM function, and they suggested I post in the forums here for moderator comment. Knowing I was reported for idling (which I hadn't ever stopped discussing or talking with him), I reported him back since he was actually harassing me the entire latter part of the first boss (including threats when I wanted to leave the party).

Any info would be helpful! Thanks.


Edit: My final question to anyone reading is: Can you get banned for any of the above? Or is it a 'go to jail' type of thing? If so, do you know how long you have to be suspended / in jail for? Thanks!

Um, no, you cant get banned for leaving a dungeon. Everyone has left a dungeon at some point.

I think he was just trying to scare and coerce you into staying in the party. I wouldn't worry about it since you didn't do anything wrong. Just another one of those typical obnoxious duty finder jerks who have nothing going for them IRL, so they take their anger out on online people LOL.

I don't think anyone should stay in a party if there is a person like that inside of it. Since you're a tank, you have an easier time to get an insta-queue while that angry jerk has to wait 30 mins+ just for a new DF party.

All it takes is one idiot to ruin the fun for an entire party's success.

Just report him back for harassment and move on, if it happens again.

On that note, has anyone ever gone to jail for 'harassment'? How long did you have to go for?

Honestly, think about what you're saying for a minute. Why would you get banned for not putting up with some douche bag? Leaving because you're not being treated right isn't a form of griefing, in fact the person that made you leave has far more of a chance of banned if anything, all you'd need to is report him right back and you'd actually have a solid story right along with having a chance to get rid of the ass.

Never heard of a single one reported being afk, sitting waiting someone leaving, or anything at all going to jail/being banned. Still surprised how that ticket was handled and why no moderators posted here? :rolleyes:

About the topic, he was an angry funny brat about report you about leaving, but he was right to report you if you was being idle sitting instead of play.

He did way worst, harrassing you. So fill a report for harrassment. Oh well, youre not banned right? Don't expect he will be banned neither. Talking about GM service :rolleyes:

Leave the party report him and move on. Keep it simple .
Going to need to do the square route remember the name and guess what server there on also Then Pray you got the right name and server there from. It is lame there no option do it simple. Halo 2 fixed all that 10 years ago.
Ps. Sucks though there not a big penalty for the trolls that leave the party.

You can't be banned for leaving a party you don't want to be in. Anyone who talks like that is just trying to intimidate you. Your gameplay is being disrupted just as much being in a party you don't like as theirs is by your leaving.

If you were leaving to Grief them (ie: you left because you were trying to speed run via DF, and got a party that wasn't Speed Run Applicable (DRGx2, DRG+MNK, MNKx2, etc)) then yes, you could be reported for Harassment and Preventing player progression.

But in your example you were the one being Griefed. You had the right to leave the party (taking 15 minute Penalty). You also had the right to report the person griefing you for harassment, if you feel it bordered on that. However, if they go over the log and find you had reported falsely (or reported falsely) they can take the reporter and bring them to GM Jail where they can 'sit them down' and discuss with them the error in reporting (especially if they have shown a tendency of false reports).

However, he is accurate that purposeful idling in a dungeon is a Violation of the Terms of Use as it is considered an attempt to hinder player progression. In your situation, you should have just left instead of saying you would idle.

After reading SE's terms of service and specifically their "prohibited activities" description (http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...6&id=5382&la=1), it seems that harassment is specifically related to offensive language that anyone would find offensive (IE as lame as it might sound ...swearing).

Don't forget, that even though they are reading over the chat logs (well, here's hoping they do), they have to take the side of a 3rd party observer. I would say that often, people report others out of anger and a majority of the requests that SE fields ends up amounting to no punishment, which is good because they might have to punish both sides if that was the case.

If someone makes the mistake of making a "death threat" or other such nonsense (how are they going to act that out?), very likely they will get warning if anything. That is, if I'm understanding their punishments listed. (http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...8&id=5382&la=1)

Nope, not even in that case is it reportable. Idling in a dungeon is also not reportable.

I had a situation I posted on the forums (last week) where I ended up having to tank the Tonberry King because the Tank pulled the immature Idling. The fact of the thread (before it became derailed into a discussion on BLM Rotations) was that people were telling me I should have reported him for hampering player progression (which they said was against ToU).

If it was against the TOS (Think this through for just a minute) there wouldn't be a button in the Duty Finder that says "Leave".

Seems to me that you met a player who has power issues. They were trying to trap you into a party where they get to mouth off at you, while trying to control your options to leave. Ignore them and put them on /blist. I wish/hope that SE would do something about people who can be seen to be abusing the report system, though I doubt they would've actually reported you (they may have done but it would be a waste of GM time).

There was a thread about people idling in CM to get free tomes where a moderator replied that they could do nothing about this, as it was the players right to play how they wanted. So no you cannot get banned for leaving a group.

I vaguely remember this. I think the moderator, in that posting or in another, also said they recognize afking in a dungeon to mooch off others is wrong, which is the main motivation for them to institute some form of kick function.

You cannot be banned for leaving a party you do not want to be in. Frankly, I would have left the party without a word.

yeah i cant seem to find the original thread but they basically said that they could not control what a player did in a dungeon but did realize the issue and thats why they were working on getting some sort of vote kick in place. but they made it pretty clear it was not a ban worthy offense.

Leaving the party isn't really grounds for a ban in that situation. Now if you were intentionally going out of your way to get everyone killed or afking, like a certain healer I ran into the other day, then the guy would have grounds to report you.

tl;dr: You're fine and the other guy was a douche.
