I'm curious, what would be the recommended gear layout for starting to get into Coil?
Its really easy to prep for coil. If your only at the point where your not even half mythology gear i90 . Just uninstall now. Your to behind the curve and no serious group will take you. You will need to lie your way in.
just make sure you're wearing 80% darklight (ilvl70) or better and you're good to go
Edit: this isn't exact, just a rough recommendation if I had to give one.
Full DL and relic is a nice start if you don't already have more. Our FC has pug'd all kinds of geared players from AK + primal to i80+ , though it does not always work out.
Full DL, Relic and an additional ilvl 70/60 ring I suppose.
I've only done T1 though.
I'm right there with you. From what I've seen...
- Buy the lvl 50 grand company weapon (ilvl 55)
- Finish your Job quest line.
- Finish the game to unlock the relic quest.
- Start your Relic Quest as a lot of the stuff you'll need will be gotten as you're doing the level 50 content.
- Do Amdapor Keep, Wonderer's Palace to max out on Myth Tomestones.
- Do Castrum Meridianum...a LOT, as it give you 100 Tomestone of Philosophy per run.
- Do Ifrit Hardmode to try out for the Ifrit weapon.
- Use the Phil Tomes to buy Darklight gear.
- Do Garuda Hardmode for relic quest and to try out for Garuda weapon
- Do Titan Hardmode (You'll need Garuda Weapon plus mostly Darklight I've been told).
- Spend 900 Phil tomes to finish up Relic weapon quest.
- Spend 900 Myth tomes to upgrade Relic to +1.
- Spend Myth on Artifact + 1 armor.
By this time, you'll have your Relic +1 and mostly full Darklight/Some Myth gear. You should be ready for Coil.... Jesus that's a lot of stuff, am I right? :)
Darklight and Myth is the recommended gear layout for Coil.
If you are still using wp/ak gear you will probably slow a coil group down.
Make sure you have enough accuracy to take on the monsters in coil. For turn 1-3 having darklight is recommended. Beyond turn 3, upgrading out of darklight is recommended.
Use foods, potions, and review strategies to help give you an upper-hand for the fights. With enough practice, an undergeared player can do coil, but will slow the party down.
For turns 1-3 (really its 1-2, because 3 is a joke) you should look at being (like most of the other people in this thread have said) 90% or full darklight, with your relic (or relic+1, preferably, depending on class). For turn 4 if you want to pull your own weight you should have at the very least a few 90 pieces other than your relic, and if you're using any crafted gear, get at least 3 materia of your most efficient/desired stat into them.
For tanks I would also highly suggest food for all turns, even 1/2, if you are just starting out. Some strategies I've seen players do require you to have more gear to work effectively, it comes down to the individual groups at the point.
Keep running Wanderer's Palace instead of Castrum as that is faster and not many people run Castrum nowadays, still gives 100 philosophy tomes. Also you don't need AF+1 armor or Relic+1. My FC group runs with people with full DL and Relic. Though we'll need major upgrade for turn 4 that we just got to see last weekend.
Good to know. I'm currently new myself, but I've been trying to research what I should be doing. Heck, I still haven't even ran WP or AK. :) Though I did just turn 50 yesterday. So far, I started the Relic quest (I'm up to the AK part) and I ran CM 2 times and bought DL boots. I'm planning on running AK and WP tonight.
Oh, I also beat Ifrit, but no weapon and I'll have to do it again once I get to that part of the Relic quest. Good times. :)
Thanks for the replies and info. Currently I'm still grinding WP for tomes, I just wanted to get a ballpark estimate of how long I'd be doing it for before I could move on to Coil. Honestly speaking I wasn't going to attempt it until I had relic +1 and about half i90.
I tanked through turn 4 with full darklight and relic +1. That is all you need until twintania, although of course gear always helps. Twintania is a hard gear check, requiring probably half i90 I would guess. At least a minimum of i80 average gear level.
I used rose gold jewelry, but you can also just use DL jewelry and be fine. Hope that helps. A good group can absolutely destroy coil, it's not that hard at all and probably serves as a good stepping stone for people new to endgame raid-like content.
Gear is important, but for the love of god, watch some fight walkthroughs or kill videos before you head into coil. Knowing the fights is half the battle.
Yeah PLD can tank turn 4 in Darklight and Relic+1 but it puts strain on healer. Our group also uses War+Pld combo instead of 2 Plds so I'm gonna need some gears to tank turn 4 before the 2.1 patch. We still have 2 weeks to try it before people start taking off for vacations and holidays. It's not that big of a deal really since we're mostly casuals with jobs and schools, etc. and I'm not dead set on tanking turn 4 before the patch.
DL gear + relic.. have fun!
Note that Darklight gear you may acquire has a three-week shelf life stamped on every piece.
As most have said, full DL and relic to get started. Or if you are patient or maybe dont want to farm the tomes for full DL you can wait 3 weeks for 2.1 and get crystal tower ilvl80 gear and be more than ready for coil then. Which is how it was meant to be anyways.
Pretty much this. CT gear + increased cap on myth tomes will trivialize turns 1-4 pretty quick if you're at all worried about it. If you have a static, get your darklight and just take a few stabs at it for fun. This game doesnt have a death penalty so nothing wrong with just giving it a few tries!
Post 2.1:
Run Crystal Tower and farm ilvl70 gear. After you have 4-5 pieces, go buy DL with tomestones to fill in the remaining slots.
Then, you COULD work on getting get your relic.. -OR- Try just farming Moogle weapon (the fight was hella fun in 1.0) It'll likely be far easier than Titan, and the weapons will be the same ilvl as relics.
The best part? By doing this all in 2.1, you'll rapidly reach the same point that hardcores have worked day-and-night over the last 3 months to get to. And you will have only spent ~20% of the effort (or gil) to get there. ;)
So you can just /laugh when you read silly stuff like:
You need full Allagan for turn 1, then you need to slather it in chocobo feces for turn 2, hop your way through turn 3 where it auto +1's everything and boogie your way past turn 4 to gain D&D +5 Mace of Disruption.
Remember how it works 2+ weeks after release? "LFM Garuda, must have Garuda weapon."
Or you could run WP/AK to farm Myths and Philos. Full Darklight and Relic +1 is your starter setup.
or someone from the dl category of players could take the initiative and form a group themselves and work the content out like the rest of us have, df cant do everything for you. I think you will be surprised how much people you could pull in, you may even get experienced lvl90 players, since maybe they are after a more chill run. Who knows you may even do better then those experienced players who might just fight and end up disbanding.
Its a bit like in the real world, theres people who would work for free just to get experience, so even 1 hour of practice could land you that ticket to the ideal group.
Ignore keyblade he is going into every coil thread to say that and it's pretty obvious trolling at this point.
Either that or he gets his feelings hurt by people in video games so badly he is on a long vengeance streak, maybe there's a bit of honesty in every troll.
Keyblade reminds me of that guy in wow who is asking for 5700 gs to get in his icc25 raid (aka asking to be carried by people who already downed most of the instance).
For real though you don't need ilv90 for turn 1-3, you sort of do for 4-5. Especially 5, you get nuked for like 3800 lol.
I would just play the game at a pace that you feel comfortable with. Don't burn yourself out on end-game. I would HIGHLY suggest finding a friendly FC to run with, since having a dependable group of people makes a world of difference. With CT coming out with ilevel 80 gear, grinding for heroic gear is kind of trivial at this point, just get DL, Relic, and maybe a few heroic accessories and you will be more than good to go. Any groups that say it isn't enough for Turn 1 are either under-skilled or a bunch of try hards.
Yeah, 'some people' like Director Yoshi-P.
Every time a new iLvl of gear is released, the rest of the content becomes easier to get through.Quote:
GW: Top being higher is easy to understand, but what do you mean by “the bottom of the slope will get easier”?
Yoshida: The top of the Binding Coil of Bahamut will not change in 2.1, this will not change until patch 2.2. In patch 2.1 we’re going to have 3 dungeons, 2 hard mode, and one high difficulty dungeon, so the amount of tokens will be more than what it is now. Therefore, it will be easier easier to increase your item level. Also you will be able to obtain more of the one rank lower token output will increase, so you can gain item levels at more ease. So it will be easier to reach the top. But in patch 2.2 the top (end-game) will get higher, so top players will go even further top. And then the contents will spread (imagine a mountain with pointed top [end-content] and wider bottom [contents getting eased over time]). This cycle will start from patch 2.1.
So those relentless grinding runs to get the latest gear? Well, I hope you really enjoyed them. Because after the next patch, newbs will have that gear handed to them like candy.
Ad infinitum...
Enjoy the treadmill~
Full DL + relic is recommended but you really don't even need that if you're good and know the fight. The FC I'm in now had a WHM heal up to turn 4 with 3 pieces of AF1 (yes the lvl 45/50 stuff) and a regular relic. I don't think any of them were overgeared at the time either.
Darklight or Vanya(crafted) gear is fine for BCB all the way to twintania as a healer or a tank. As DPS you should have relic +1 unless your a brd.
I tank on pld or warrior. My warrior is a lot of il90, but I usually tank on my pld for the silence utility and cooldowns. My pld made it through turn 4 with full Darklight and nothing but. I have crafted earring's and 1 crafted NQ rosegold ring.
