combat-gladiator slow it down

combat as it is is a button mash fest for gladiator and im sure for other jobs as well. aside from watching out for a few things to interrupt etc and the occasional cover. for the sake of making these key strokes feel useful..why not slow down the combat a bit but make up for the combo with more effective damage. this whole thing of hitting the keys to get to halone is fine but after the tenth one in under a minute on a fight is a bit ridiculous.

I think more people would be against slowing combat down at all than for it... a lot of people feel it's already quite slow due to the general cooldown on most skills

Wait till you are in coil trying to do all this, plus keep hate, tank swapping, silence duty, voice calls, watching your HP, keep out of AOE's, Rot, Hollowed Ground, adds, and DPS'ing, while trying to do your job. What you are saying is cake compared to what you will experence as a tank in coil.

slow down the combat even further? isnt the combat slow enough has it is already, i didnt knew i was playing with 10 years old with slow reflexes, if the combat in this game goes any slower than it is ill fall asleep in the middle of a fight, you already have 2.5 seconds to choose what to do before your next action do you need what another 2.5 seconds? lets just make the global cooldown 5 seconds so i can take a sip of coffe before i choose what i do next...~

ps: i have a paladin and i have no issues at all with dodging stuff in coil, keeping aggro or hitting my cc in the right time, actually this game feels to damn easy with this slow has a snail combat... if anything it would need to be faster, lowering the GCD to 1.5 seconds that would be the way to go, like someone above said, more ppl would side to make combat faster than slower...

OP's point is that you 1, 2, 3, all the time and too frequently, not that the combat is "too fast" and "he needs more time deciding" (there's no decision here, anyway - 1, 2, 3).

What you describe was the original FFXIV:ARR. However, during beta, there were many threads that went on for extended periods of time (for weeks) in multiple phases, that all essentially told the devs to "make it faster".

And so we have the 2.5s GCD.

WoW had a gcd because every skill had a separate cooldown and the gcd was there to prevent 2 skills being pressed and activated at once (I think anyway, who knows what the WoW developers intended).

FFXIV 1.x (at least after 1.17) had separate cooldowns but has animation locks in place of gcd. It locked both other skills from being activated and your character's position.

Now 2.0 removed separate cooldown from most attacks, replaced animation lock for skill activation order with GCD instead but for some reason the animation lock between gcd and non gcd skills stayed? What's even weirder is that they're okay with removing animation position locks. Yes, I know people requested it but it feels kinda halfway there. Frankly I dont know what yoship and co are thinking with these "yes to this but no on that" answers/decisions.

I actually think that was exactly his point. Hell, the thread title is "combat-gladiator slow it down". He said he would rather have one combo do more damage than doing that same combo two, three or four times for the same damage.

And it isn't just 1, 2, 3. It's 1, 2, 3 with 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 so on and so forth weaved in between them.

lol slow it down? Combat right now is near turtle speed! Simplistic combos are to blame NOT combat speed. There is literally nothing interesting to do with your hands apart for mashing incredibly boring combo over an over occasionally poping cooldown. If i wasn't a interesting to play SCH then i would be done with this game LONG ago.

Not sure exactly what the OP is trying to say, but what I think he really means is that GLA/PLD is an extremely boring class to play, as all you do is spam the RoH combo over and over while popping a CD here and there.

Although in fact im pretty sure i've hit flash about 3x more than ive hit RoH, as our aoe combo comprised solely of spamming flash till OOM and then using riot blade or bard song to get some back.

I think what he meant to say was that GLA combat is too slow, as in... there is nothing to do, no weaving different combos or anything like that.

The problem with PLD is not speed of combat. The problem the lack of variety with the constant use of a single boring combo. I really would love them to add a second combo that ends with Cure (healing multiplier) that would be apart of the basic tanking rotation (riot blade combo is only in WP speed runs and is not part of the basic rotation). This would also help deal with PLDs identity crisis where it doesn't feel like a PLD at all but rather just a plan boring Knight due to lack of practical white magic use.
