Usless traits that should be made a base part of the skills

I would love to get some feedback from the devs on these skills.

Marauder

Enhanced Brutal Swing: Extends Brutal Swing duration to 5 seconds.
Notes: It is not a cross class skill and is in no way to strong at 5 seconds.


Enhanced Berserk: Extends Berserk duration to 20 seconds.
Notes: Again not a cross class skill and in no way needs to be only 15 seconds at early levels.

Enhanced Mercy Stroke: Shortens Mercy Stroke cooldown to 60 seconds.
Notes: I dont even know what to say about this. It can only be used when a mob is under 20% health and does weak damage. 60 sec CD should be base even as a cross class skill.

Enhanced Thrill of Battle: Improves the HP increase granted by Thrill of Battle to 20%.
Notes: Why is this not base LOL.

Enhanced Maim: Extends Maim duration to 24 seconds.
Note: This one makes no sense. The durations are all goofy for this skill. It doesn't add up with other buffs and Debuffs.

Archer

Heavier Shot: Adds to Heavy Shot a 20% chance that your next Straight Shot will deal critical damage.
Notes: You get this at level 8. Is it too strong to have at level when you get straight shot? Makes no sense.

Enhanced Quick Nock: Extends Quick Nock range to 12 yalms.
Notes: Why is this not base it is not a cross class skill.

Enhanced Barrage: Increases number of strikes per auto-attack to three.
Notes: There are 6 levels between unlocking Barrage and Enhanced barrage. This is not a cross class skill. WTF is the point of this. Why not just make it base.

Gladiator

Enhanced Rampart: Increases damage reduction granted by Rampart to 20%.
Notes: Not a cross class and this unlocks at level 14. No reason for it to not be base.

Enhanced Flash: Adds Blind effect to Flash. Duration: 12s
Notes: This is a cross class ability but I do feel like both tanks should have this effect.

Enhanced Fight or Flight: Extends Fight or Flight duration to 30 seconds.
Notes: Not a cross class ability it doesn't make sense not to be base.

Enhanced Rage of Halone: Increases strength reduction inflicted by Rage of Halone to 10%.
Notes: Again with the non cross class skills. Make this base.

Enhanced Sentinel: Increases damage reduction granted by Sentinel to 40%.
Notes: Non cross class. This should be base.

Lancer

Enhanced Leg Sweep: Shortens Leg Sweep recast time to 20 seconds.
Notes: Not cross class. This should be base.

Enhanced Life Surge: Shortens Life Surge recast time to 60 seconds.
Notes: Not cross class. This should be base.

Heavier Thrust: Extends Heavy Thrust duration to 20 seconds.
Notes: Not cross class. This should be base.

Exenterate: Extends Disembowel duration to 30 seconds.
Notes: Not cross class. This should be base.

Pugilist

Enhanced Twin Snakes: Improves the damage increase granted by Twin Snakes to 10%.
Notes: Not cross class this should be base.

Mythril Peak: Shortens Steel Peak recast time to 40 seconds.
Notes: Again with the 6 levels between getting the skill and its "upgrade" What is the point. Make it base.

Conjurer

I'll be honest. A lot of their things made sense. Weird....

Thaumaturge

Enhanced Scathe: Grants a 20% chance that Scathe will deal double damage.
Notes: Non cross class and there are only a few levels between getting the spell and the trait.

Enhanced Manaward: Increases damage nullified by Manaward to 30% of your maximum HP.
Notes: Really you have to wait until level 48 for this... Not cross class and should be base.

Arcanist

Enhanced Pet Actions: 20% chance of increasing spell speed by 20% when pet deals critical damage.
Notes: This has so little effect on gameplay. Why is this not base.

Energy Siphon: Doubles the amount of MP restored by Energy Drain.
Notes: You don't have mana problems before this level and at level 35 you get fester that replaces this skill. Why is this not base. Also not a cross class.

Enhanced Rouse: Shortens Rouse recast time to 60 seconds.
Notes: Again with the 6 levels between getting the skill and its upgrade. Its not even cross class.

Useless*... I hate this keyboard.

The only real justification I can give for most of those is that they want you to feel like you are getting stronger as you level hence it not being the base but beside that yeah it is a bit silly for the non-cross class skills.

The only problem is most of them as such small changes that you never even notice. There are some big ones that just CHANGE the way you play the game. BLM level 44 trait that gives Fire a 40% chance to make the next fire 3 instant and free. Wow that is a trait that makes sense and it is awesome.

The traits that I have the biggest issues with are the increase stats ones. They're so boring and they might as well just be baked into your level up. I rather see them replaced with ones that affect skills.

I don't really agree with your Arcanist choices, as they generally feel like upgrades on skills you've already been using.

I totally agree that those are completely slap-handed design decisions. While I like the idea of acquiring skills and further stronger versions of them in order to instill a sense of progression, when the gap is < 10 levels and the effectiveness is < ~10% it is almost insulting.

I hit 48 Whm, added a few new jewelry slots to the gear. Got my spell speed to 400.
Hit the Whm spell speed boost, it doubles your spell speed so I am sitting there with 800 spell speed for 10 seconds.

2.5 is now 2.3

Ok.. yea, I see.

Got an enhanced enmity decrease thing. It lasts 15 seconds. I don't know if the stacks of AoE that melted my health were aimed at me or not but the enmity thing wasn't really helping much.

You cant even feel this once you get it. Your pets crit so little and the effect only has a 20% chance to happen. It is never there when you need it. If this skill happened whenever your pet crit and had like a 20 second cooldown. It would make sense. However it doesn't and it feels weak.

"double" at level 36 is not even enough for an extra spell. I don't see how this feels like an upgrade. You don't even use the skill again after level 35 and you get Fester for SMN. SCH can't even use the spell endgame because we don't have enough ACC. If this also came with an effect like "this spell can no longer miss" I would be happy with it.

Enhanced Rouse: Shortens Rouse recast time to 60 seconds.
You had the skill for 6 levels. There was no reason for this to not be base. I don't see how this feels like an upgrade.

Honestly, I'm more bothered by the "Enhances [x]" traits. I don't disagree about Flash being made baseline, but aside from that, trats evolving your abilities makes sense.

I'd make T1 of Enhances [stat] traits just be a percentage base. 10%? I don't know. Could be geared or ungeared. Could/should factor in your bonus point allotment.

For GLA, I'd add "Manapart" - Mana restoration is increased while under the effects of rampart.

For MRD - TP costs are halved while under the effects of Bloodbath.

For WHM - Your regen spells generate less enmity.

For ACN - Nearby targets gain a boost to a related stat while a pet is out. (Ifrit STR, Garuda INT, Titan VIT, Eos MND, Selene PIE)

That's not to exclude other jobs, just that I really don't know much about them

I think many of the enhanced abilities that extend duration are built around change in rotations by added new skills. So to attempt to make them more fluid in rotations. For example the duration of the buff from heavy thrust is just about right for the rotation up till you get the buff. At that time I added a few more skills in and was having to clip it to make sure if would last through my rotation. When I had the buffed version, as long as I don't have to mix up my rotation, it flows. So many of these enhanced versions are not necessary at low levels and if were base it wouldn't hurt but not necessary.

While some do seem kind of "meh" boosting abilities with traits sort of makes sense in the long run, one of the adjustments they have said they will be looking at is cross class skills, so some that may not be crossclassable? now, may be in the future, this way maybe they won't have to do much adjusting in the future with them. I loved energy siphon, but I was rocking scholar whilst leveling up the arcanist, so fester didn't factor in on that. And for engame, I use energy drain as a scholar in coil, presplit caduceus there is no need for sacred soil or lustrate, I've never had it miss tossing it at the snake, or throwing one at a slime when it spawns. Turn two healing isn't an issue, plenty of use there, not going to mention three, and four only time I may use it is on the second wave on the second soldier while I am dotting it up. Not counting the stat boost and damage/healing increase traits, they do seem like they were tossed in at the last minute to make it feel like you were getting something a little more often while leveling. Then there is the possibility that they are saving something in the future for us with level cap increase, they are adding things in from older Final Fantasy games, why not add something in from an older Final Fantasy XIV, and maybe when you hit say 55, certain traits will become crossclassable, don't see this one happening, but hey, I like being able to set not only abilities but also traits.

Out of your designs I liked your ACN one the best. However you need to also add the 2nd Fairy. Fairy 1 MND, Fairy 2 PIE

While I do understand that. I feel like a lot of the "lower cooldown" traits are lame and annoying.

IMO these traits exist in part to keep cross-class abilities from being too powerful. As SCH I can take Protect from CNJ, but without Proshell (a CNJ-only trait) the buff only mitigates physical damage.

I understand that. As you noticed I called out very few cross class skills in this. Most of the stuff I called out were unique to that class. ACN Rouse, MRD Thrill of Battle, LNC Life surge and so on.

To be honest, I think it's more because they refuse to give two classes the same spell and that (this part is sensible) they don't give jobs traits to support cross class abilities. It's why there's Cure/Physick Raise/Resurrection. They couldn't justify a clone of protect just to justify sch getting proshell. SCH is not very inferior to whm, it isn't really at all, it's just different, but it does have some flaws (like Adloq not being stackable, not the best pet AI) and some boons (never runs out of mp) and the value of not having proshell is rarely noticed because you usually have a WHM as well.

That said, I like both. For me SCH is more fun, because dps'ing seems more...in tune with the class. Stone II is boring and Holy is too expensive on mp.

There's already an intensely stupid thread arguing about SCH vs. WHM so lets not do that -- I wasn't complaining, just giving an example. :)

They really need to do a lot more with the classes in this game. There is literally more customization for our Horsebirds than there is for the main classes; they even have vanity items. Simply mind boggling. You'd think that they would want the class system to have more depth of choice than the freaking mount I ride around on, but I digress.

Maybe they thought stat points and cross class abilities would be enough, but you just dump stats into your main stat unless you want to gimp your character, and there's some cross class abilities that or more or less compulsory and others that are 100% useless for the job you're playing. Maybe if the base jobs, which can be a little more free-form, had a place in the game things would be different. Overall, I find the job/class system to be extremely shallow and a complete waste of potential.

Sorry this was off-topic, but when I thought about the OP, this is what came to mind lol.

I would rather they be added to already existing skills.

There is too many skills to worry about in this game as it is and with the crappy poorly implemented macro system, yeah.....with the exception of maybe one or two job roles that require very little attention or skill usage.

Anyone else have any feedback or am I one of the few that care about these poor designs.
