Why even bother with the content that is coming out in 2.1? It's all a step back, and not a step forward.
While i admit , i was thinking long ago 2.1 was going to be a cap raise (ilv95/100) still ye, a full 80 gear will make coil runs way easier and more "community friendly". Except nothing will change at all, the usual same groups will keep running it, just faster. It's not gonna make the community better nor increase coil runs at all, imho. But at least ye, new content and maybe a spot on a 24 raid :)
I for one am glad to see CT coming into play, with the current myth cap and coil lockouts it will be nice to have something to do on my non-main classes. I just hope they don't lock out CT or put restrictions similar to coil on it because that will make it pretty useless. After doing WP/AK for the 100th time I would love to try something different.
Housing requires materials, farming, and crafting. It's a group activity that will take some player's game time. Not everyone leveled up in a week actually a month and a half later statistics were released on the game. The majority weren't even at level cap. Many of my casual friends just finished their DL and Relic armor. They might get a piece or two of Mythic before Crystal tower comes out. Not to mention CT is more alt friendly than coils/Myth runs. Many people I know, not even just casuals, are excited for CT because it'll allow them to gear alts. Is the patch perfect? No, but hopefully 2.2 won't get delayed as there has been quite a bit of juicy information alluded to.
Some of us recognized this when CT was delayed. I for example, have been doing other things these past few months while I choose to ignore end game (being incomplete and all).
I personally can't wait! Yay!
I'm not saying that CT is bad, it's good it's coming out, but I think it should be after coil or in between coil turns type of content. but it suppose to be before you do coil, and coil is already being beat left and right. I get that they will continue to add floors to crystal tower, to make it harder. Though to leave an important piece of content out for such a long time is a terrible idea.
gearing up my monk and later my bard will be easier. Besides I want to get out of DL gear already and don't run coil yet.
Actually, that's false. "most people" haven't even reached level 50 on a single job, and this is true in every MMO. only about a quarter of all players in WoW ever reach level 20, which takes like no time at all.
also, of the portion of players who ARE at endgame, few of them have multiple jobs that are above lv70 geared. for their secondary jobs, CT will be very useful in becoming viable for coil.
Can we stop with the whole "it takes a week", "it takes a few days", and such? "A week" is not the same for everybody. Some people can play 8 hours a day, some of us can play 2 hours a day tops. That's a 56 hour week vs a 14 hour one. It took me almost a month and a half to reach 50 and I'm only now about to finish getting my DL gear.
I understand that this will not be very beneficial to mains but I'm guessing that unless you're running in full ilvl90 already, which the majority aren't, then there will be at least a few pieces from CT that are still an upgrade for you. Even if you are full ilvl90 you'll have alternative content besides dungeons to work on your alts. I know alt classes don't appeal to everybody but as you said, you can lvl another job in about 1 week if you want to but at the end of the day you'll be locked out of myth/coil gearing up your main with it. I see what you're saying but this was pretty much developed at launch and simply held back due to delays/bugs, it's not like they had to design it from the ground up after release.
There are more than a few people in my FC that just reached 50 or are about to reach 50; Crystal tower is more than welcome. If by some miracle they get rid of the coil lockout, or even with the current lockout system in place, it would be nice to be decently geared on alt classes so people can sub in for different roles if necessary.
Also I may be using CT gear as an excuse to not get my Relic WHM pants because there's no way I'm running around in boxers till vanity slots come out.
I knew there was a reason the OP was on my ignore list.
Anyway, everyone above mirrors my sentiments. Not everyone has blitzed through Coil so CT will have a lot to offer for those people, especially for alt class upgrades.
Looking forward to doing crystal tower and working on housing myself, but I'm iffy about whether it'll be enough to hold us over till 2.2. Hopefully housing is really in depth and takes alot of time, or i'll be back to twiddling thumbs waiting for the next update :(
As for the population, it's pretty easy to see that the majority of people are at endgame already, simply looking at the zone density and dungeon timers clears that speculation up. The only lower level zones that are getting any action are the ones people are using to fate grind alts up, and dungeon timers for pre-50 dungeons are easily twice as long as endgame ones.
That shows 1 of 2 things
1. Fate grinding is completely out of control and even newbies are doing them to level their first class(unlikely)
or
2. Everyone is at endgame and just using them to grind alts up.
Even if I had all allagan gear for every job, I would still want to do CT. It'll be the first instance for more than 8 people.
While I'll admit some disappointment that CT is a step behind Coil, I'm also half looking forward to it. It will be a nice in-between for those of us not yet in full myth/allagan gear (depending on the itemization, of course), and it's another thing my FC can do as a group besides just WP spams, helping folk with relic quests, and Coil.
CT is 5 floors. The fift floor will probably be IL90. As time goes on CT will get more floors and BCB will get more Turns. We are likely to end up with crystal tower having 100 floors eventually.
I'm just so glad this OP isn't on my server.
This game will only ever have 8 man content. 24 Man content is an illusion, it will just be 3 groups of 8 in the same place. There is no game mechanic to allow 24 people in one group.
Still not sure why people are thinking of CT as a step back when it's actually a skipped step that's just late to the party. (Perhaps not fashionably late, but it was always intended to be a part of the vanilla end game)
it doesn't matter if the tower is fun and interesting. I did coil a few times, got thru turn 4 but that was during that long extended time turn 5 was down and frankly coil is incredibly boring imo.
On the one hand it is great you're not just killing trash mobs for an hr like other dungeons but at the same time its just bad content and once you get the patterns down, its not even a challenge. This game is in dire need of a good content transfusion so here is hoping that the tower will be just that. I know I am on the verge of not renewing my sub and same with my roomie, which is sad cause I stuck with this game all the way thru to dalamud dropping and haven't been so excited about a release in yrs. To have such a disappointing release is heartbreaking, so like I said, HIGH hopes for 2.1 lol
Great idea OP, whenever Square decides to release content from here on out they will just skip doing that if someone dosnt find an interest in the added features.
I think you will be able to cycle between groups with left trigger and left and right buttons on the pad. left trigger + up and down will cycle through the threat list.
Pretty cool what they have in store for us in patch 2.1 IMO
Titan Extreme Mode is just Titan Hardmode... but now you're capped at Lv30....
How's that for retrograde.
/maniacal laughter
The problem with this approach: say they added 6-10 on coil, and pushed CT back another patch, so "hardcores" had something to do in 2.1...
2.2 rolls around: "Everyone has finished Coil 1-10, add more coil, don't add CT yet!"
It would just snowball and they would end up scrapping CT completely. While that may appease the "hardcores", I would prefer a variety of endgame content (and a way to gear up alts to a reasonable level) as opposed to 1 raid for the foreseeable future.
Yep, that's exactly what Video Games are, just something to do. Maybe treat them as such?
Problem is Coil is not hardcore content. The only reason it seems that way now is because you need at minimum darklight and a relic but frankly that's not to hard to obtain, even for an extreme casual. It just may take them a few more weeks to be coil ready. And most ppl can master each coil turn in a night as long as they pay attn., maybe watch a vid or two before they start and coordinate a bit with their pt on ts or whatever. Calling coil hardcore content tho is like calling nyzul isle hardcore content. Its really just something to do until we get something better, which is also a reason so many ppl just log in to cap tomes and log out for the rest of the week.
The only reason Coil is "hardcore content" is because CT is currently missing. We should actually be grinding for DL gear in order to enter CT. Gear progression was meant to be as follows:
AF > WP > AK > DL > CT > Allagan and getting AF2 while working up to Allagan. This is fairly obvious by looking at the iLevels on current gear.
Why even bother with posting useless threads? It's all a step back, and not a step forward.
A week? I've been playing a career-endangering number of hours per week and I only have 5 classes (3 DoW/M) at 50. Hasn't it been like 3 months since beta 4 started (when my character was created)? I also have zero pieces of Coil gear so far, despite running it for the last month or so, so I'd greatly appreciate CT gear, as well. And who knows, maybe it'll look cool, too.
