WHM starting in Coil

Planning on starting to do Coil soon on my WHM. I only have experience in Turns 1 and 2 (turn 1 very little though) on Bard, but I'd like to know some gear advice, minimal if needed stats and some playstyle advice, like what I should be expecting to happen

Currently this is my gear:

For starters I know I should be upgrading to DL jewelry (and imagine that Tourmaline bracelet as turquoise) and putting some melds on the hat (I'm beyond broke), but for the most part, will my current gear be a hinderance? Will there be anything in ADS/Cadeucus that will happen where my stats will not suffice?

Finally I'm planning on getting some Relic armor before my +1 relic. Besides gloves and earring (since they drop from Turn 1) what upgrade should I go for next?

Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Healer is very dependent on the rest of the group. If the tank/dps have good gear/rotation, you can get away with less. Also, if your co-healer is performing well, they can help shoulder the burden.

Now, onto stats. When you reach Turn 5, you're going to want 4200 HP (fully buffed; food, tank buff, full party buff, etc). Your HP right now is probably a little low to reach that, so I would either (cheap way) respec and put some stats into VIT, or (expensive way) get some crafted jewelry and meld VIT into it.

For upgrades, here's what you'll be buying as a WHM with your Mythology:
Thyrus +1
Cleric's Gloves
Cleric's Culottes
Cleric's Boots
Hero's Ring of Healing

The most important is Thyrus +1. Get that first. After that, I would work on what gives you the biggest upgrade based on what drops you get in Coil.

Gear isn't really required for the healer if you have a/or BRDs in your team. Memorizing boss rotations is infinitely more useful.

The only real gear check is T5 (T4 will be extremely difficult though if undergeared)

And Leo, thanks for the advice and I'll send you a tell next time I can. For your list though I have a question. Could I get an HQ melded Astral Ring in place of the Hero's Ring? besides Vitality what should be melded onto it to make it useful?

You will be fine in T2. Most of the difficulty will come (as a healer) on how efficient your tanks taunt rotate.

T1 and T2 is a joke. Just saying.

I haven't experienced T5 as I can't find a decent PUG party who can clear T4 with it's puny mechanics.

Your main issues with Turn 2 will be the mechanics, not the healing. If your party is stunning, dodging, tank swapping, and passing rot properly, you shouldn't have a problem.

As for Astral Ring, you absolutely could. In fact, if you meld 2 CRIT +6 and 2 PIE +3 to it, along with a VIT +8, it's useful for WHM, SCH, BLM and SMN.

And for the most part my FC knows what they're doing, now if I can manage to get into a party I'd be solid

As for gear i would not EVER get the Cleric's gloves. Your allagan gloves drop in turn 1 and they give you Crit instead of spell speed. IMO getting cleric's gloves is a total waste of Myth tomes.
For me i'm leaning towards getting the Cleric's pants next, since the allagan ones drop in turn 5, and the boots drop turn 2. However your first priority should be getting your Thyrus +1, which is a big boost to your healing.

After the +1 the best upgrade is hero ring > pants > boots, also depends ofcourse on drops you get in the first turn of coil.

Yes. Thyrus +1. Don't ever consider anything else. And pants next since it drops in turn5.

I wouldn't buy cleric gloves, but that's only because they drop in turn 1. Spell speed is much better than crit on WHM. Crit = overheal. Spell speed? The .01 sec difference between a wipe and a win. Also gives higher mobility.

My myth spending:
- Thyrus +1
- Hero ring
- Pants

That is your vision ArniQQ a lot prefer the det as you need a lot of spellspeed to really make it work. And crit is overheal argument is just stupid as you just heal different. In fights where you normally heal the tank for example with 2/3 cure I and then 1 or 2 cure II makes it possible to skip cure II if you get some nice crits with cure I.
Basicly spellspeed is more cures while with determination it is less cures but more healed.

Honestly, crit, speed, determination..none of them are bad paths. Just different. Crit can save you having to cast an extra cure 2, speed can keep those clinch situations under control and determination all around makes things better. Find what works for you because there really is no bad choice here, as long as you know how to work with what you've built.

We're very lucky when it comes to our end game decisions as there isn't a clear one laid out for us. WHM get options where others are rather forced to go down one path.

Don't worry about your gear. I've heard of WHM healing turn 1 and 2 in AF1 + some AK gear. People tend to exaggerate what is needed in most situations.

Also to the above, I feel like people don't understand how little determination really adds to your healing amount. Isn't it something like +1.2 hp cured in a 400 pot heal for every 5ish det? That's not exactly amazing. Det / SS / crit... it's a personal choice and there really isn't a wrong answer because none of them make a huge difference. Pick your preference.

So Last night I healed Turn 1 for the first time (no changes to equipment and used HQ Mulled Tea) and it was a very fun experience, HOWEVER...

I noticed quite often I had some pretty solid hate on the Cad split when it spawns before I used Shroud. We had 2 different off tanks that night, one simply could not hold hate from me (Garuda sword) and the other slightly struggled but managed to keep it for the most part (Relic and what I assume was HQ HDS). Is this a problem on my end? or the OT's end? For the most part I am doing my best not to overcure and build unnecessary hate and using DS Regen as often as I can (DS is always on CD for me)

The split will always be rough even with good tanks. I always have Shroud up for after the split.
The add is a completely new mob so it's almost impossible to NOT get hate. It all depends on how fast your OT tags the second snake. Cadeceus is pretty much a tank fight and they have the biggest responsibility :)

Unless you mean you were high on the hate list even before the split. That shouldn't really be the case with proper tank rotation and healing.

To echo the others:
Your gear is more than fine for up till T4. It's after all also a DPS raise. If the stacks get so high that you can't keep up with healing then your dps is not geared enough or using wrong rotations.
I would also NEVER. EVER buy the myth gloves (or if you really want to definitely not ffirst since they drop in T1). As already mentioned Ring and Pants first for Myth upgrades. After you get your +1.

Were your OTs tanking the Add Boss where it spawned, or trying to drag it away from the "original" boss?

The reason I'm asking is that I regularly OT on Turn 1, and I've noticed that two things in particular that as a Tank really help make things go smoothly:

(i) Upon split, have the MAIN TANK drag the original boss to the other side of the arena. Lots of groups want the OT to do this with the new boss, however it is extremely difficult to maintain hate at range on a new add mid-fight whilst heavy healing is taking place. The main tank should already have a solid hate lead on the main boss, and can comfortably pull it across the arena without losing this hate lead.

(ii) On the lead-up to the split, the OFF TANK should have the Boss Focus-Targetted and be using their Tier one attack (Step #1 in the 3-part +enmity combo both Tanks have, for PLD this is 'Fast Blade') over and over again. Whenever the split happens, the OT should immediately press Tab (to target the new boss) then use Steps #2 and #3 in that +enmity combo on the new add. (Bonus points if you can queue an off-GCD ability such as a damage buff in between those, since every buff and ability used grants a little additional enmity!)

The above will apply two doses of +Enmity to the new boss within the first two GCDs of it spawning, which should be sufficient to stop it from going into ping-pong mode as long as the healers don't suddenly decide to spam Medicas. Because the Main Tank will be dragging the original boss across the arena, the Off Tank remains where they are and begins their standard melee attack rotation on the new boss to start building +enmity.

If you still have issues, the OT and MT can each use a Damage Reduction Cooldown so you don't need to heal them at all until the OT establishes hate, but honestly with that 3-step Enmity combo queued up it shouldn't be needed.

Even if the Tanks are "good", many Off Tanks make the mistake of trying to keep the third step of their +enmity combo available to use on the new boss - example: "Rage of Halone" from the Paladin 'Fast Blade' -> 'Savage Blade' -> 'Rage of Halone' combo. (The tank will try to cycle Fast Blade and Savage Blade on the old boss, then repeat whenever the combo effect is about to wear off)

Technically this will grant more +enmity in one GCD, but that initial +enmity only kicks in at the very end of the attack animation and RoH takes much longer to animate than Savage Blade does. Even if the OT manages to time the new boss spawn so that it spawns right whenever they have RoH queued up for a combo; the boss can run halfway across the screen to whack a healer before that RoH finishes animating. The result is often that the OT and their healer start playing a game of Caduceus ping-pong until the OT can properly lock it down (and Shield Lob pulls much lower enmity than a melee combo!) - you really DON'T want that to happen with the mechanics of that fight... :)

Thanks for the great advice, Maelwys. Seems like one of those "so obvious, why didn't I think of that?" kind of tips, haha. It makes a ton of sense. I'll be sure to pass it along when I do Coil. Tried a couple times with different groups but always have trouble with the split.

Wow, that's a good amount of advice Maelwys. And The OTs were dragging the split to the other side of the arena that night.

A question to those advising how I should spend my myth tomes: Considering how I'm planning on skipping the Hero's ring for a fully melded Astral Ring, after Thyrus and Pants, What should I aim for next? Circlet or Boots? Did research answered my own question. Cleric's Circlet will be after and everything else will be Allagan
To note: I plan on focusing Spell Speed on my White Mage
