there are other things to do than play ffxiv
i mean i've always thought that was kind of a stupid thing to say until i said it myself, but i cant play this game like i played wow lol.
What for now? Final Fantasy: A Maintenance Reborn.
Wait for shitstorms from others who haven't noticed this yet. http://i.imgur.com/JhLGGOT.jpg
Personally, it doesn't get to me much. When you have other games to fill your time, it helps a lot.
(Or you could just lurk the forums, though I think they go down with the game)
They gotta do this stuff, its vital.
Last MMO I played went down every day for 30 - 60 mins depending, whenever new content was added, that's probably two days of random shut downs and whatnot. Add on the unscheduled stuff and emergency shutdowns w a 10 second warning, yea it was bad.
I try to believe the game only gets better with each shutdown even though some say it gets worse. In a perfect world we would get any money lost on our sub due to the game being down back, but hey, let's be realistic.. lol.
So I guess SE doesn't bother me as much so far, they give us more than a 10 second warning at least..
As long as they fix the random DC in the dungeons, I am OK. In the mean time -> Batman: Arkham Origns.

I've encountered precisely one maintenance since release day.
/smug mode disengaged
you rather play a game with broken code, or glitches than to allow SE to do maintenance?
Theres weekly 2-3 hour maintenance every friday (eu timing) and if im not mistaken some tuesdays.
Emergency maintenance has nothing to do with these scheduled maintenance.
I think I might stop playing for awhile. I reached my goal and now there is nothing to do...
YES SE STOP FIXING STUFF IN THE GAME THIS IS RECOKULOUS
These threads make me sad :(
oh plz enough already
Another qq thread about maintanences, as if we didn't have enough of those!
If it wasn't affecting a majority of players but it was affecting you, you would want it fixed immediately.
As other people have pointed out there are other things to do when the game isn't available. Personally I research whatever my next planned goals are and plan ahead to optimize my use of time in game. Researching fights, recipe paths for crafting, where to get raw materials for crafts, these are all the kind of things that can be found on the various wikis and need nothing from the game itself.
Personally I keep a notebook filled with this research just so I'm not constantly flipping between the game and my browser so when the game is up, WHICH IS THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE TIME, I can accomplish my goals more quickly. And yes these maintenances are at times I would be playing.
These threads are just about as pathetic as the "I'm quitting because there's nothing left for me to do" posts.
Can I have your stuff Mr. Soon-to-be-rage-quitter?
Sorry, perhaps I was unclear. If you were in the minority (i.e. the group of players affected) then you would be pitching a fit if it wasn't fixed immediately. The reason they don't announce what they are fixing is so that (if it's exploitable) more people don't exploit it. Or it could be something else entirely. They are under no obligation to tell us what they are doing (although I would like to know myself).
If they had less frequent fixes and all of a sudden a rollback was required the amount of rage generated from the entire playerbase would be deafening. As it is they still have to "listen" to people whine about it every time when they are trying to fix problems.
imagine being this far out from the RERELEASE of your game and STILL having maintenance more then once a week.
what a very sub-par developer
Yeaaaah this is getting pretty excessive. It really is lmao.
It's also annoying. Again I say, just throw me a bone and tell me what you're fixing.
I'm kinda curious. All you peoples telling us "Well derp, wanna play a broke game?"
Okay, so tell me what they fixed then? You got hackers acting like they own the place.
I still have these random lags, I still get 90k/200 crap, random bugs, oh and did I mention RMT?
I just wanna know what's up.
Inb4 I get shot at.
cant you watch reruns of maury povich/jerry springer instead
Yes. Enough with the whiny posts about maintenance.
I have no problem with the regular maintenance as I know it's vital. It's the constant emergency maintenances that are staring to bug me. Not only are they far too often for it to be anything that could be classed a real emergency, they've still yet to fix a ton of bugs that I've been reporting for weeks anyway.
They don't fix bugs during maintenance, there's nothing they can do about lag and they barely put a dent in the gil sellers ranks when they do occasionally ban some of them.
So what are they doing?
why do you feel they owe you an explanation? just wondering.....
That's right, and in order to ensure that they're providing you with the best service, they need to perform maintenance every so often to ensure reliable stability. That's just how it is with IT.
If it's emergency maintenance, and they aren't giving an explanation, it's likely because there's an exploit they need to fix. Now, what do you think would happen if they said, "Oh there's this exploit and we're gonna fix it. Please don't try to take advantage of the exploit before we fix it."
But in this case it's regularly scheduled maintenance, and it's two freakin' hours in the middle of the night. And even if you're in Europe, you really can't find something to keep you occupied for two hours? On a Friday?
Yes because I said this is exactly the same as paying taxes didn't I...
I'm paying Square-Enix for the service of playing their game. So if I'm constantly stopped from playing, then yes I'm going to wonder why. The same way as if I got home and tried to watch Sky TV but was told for three hours a day three times a week I couldn't, I would want to know why.
If I don't pay my taxes, I go to prison. If I don't pay SE anymore, then that means I'm not playing. I'm not suggesting it's to the level of making me want to quit yet, but for some people it very well could be. Which is something they should do their best to discourage. A simple explanation would go a long way.
more.
c'mon gimme more maintenances.
maintenances are good.
they fix bugs.
so gimme more.
more maintenances.
you think these are enough yet?
no.
no, we need more maintenances.
if the servers are online - there are bugs.
there can't be bugs when the servers are offline, right?
so please.
shut them down again.
more maintenances please.
you've got to force me to do some RL stuff.
i beg you.
more maintenances.
