Leveling a White Mage and totally clueless.

So I need to figure out a few things and honestly I have looked around the web and lurked these forms but having a real big issuse with some specific problems.

1. I read that I should just throw every attribute point into Mind, but was told today that I am bad and should be throwing 1 into piety and Vit for every 5 Mind... Is this true? Have not seen anything that regards this situation.

2. I just got into the dungeon Brayflox's, and christ what a change from the previous dungeon healing wise. I was dispelling and even so I just kept going oom towards the end of the fight. I was spamming cure II but I could not really keep up with throwing out cure 1. I must be healing wrong or something :(

3. Is regen just something I always keep up on the tank and don't throw out on dps?

Basicaly I am still learning the game I came over from wow I like the game, but there is not a ton of white mage info if you have some tips let me know thanks :)

Every point should go into mind; anyone telling you otherwise is clueless. The only possible scenario where you'd spec vitality is if you absolutely needed it to survive T4/T5 and were too poor to meld Vit materia onto i70 crafted accessories. There is no scenario where you should ever spec into Piety. You can put Regen on DPS in certain situations when you know they won't take any big hits anytime soon, but in general it is only used on the tank.

I've heard a lot of different things about attribute points and I really don't think there is any hard rule that you should follow. From what I have heard from other people once you hit 50 the stats on your gear minimizes the importance of where you spend your points. I did toss a few points into piety and a few into vitality just because I like having a bit of a buffer but I feel like it's not needed.

Brayflocks can be difficult if people stand in the pools for too long or getting hit by that frontal aoe. As a whm dispel is pretty key. I was having mana issues my first few times through there so I used ether potions during the fight (potion twice during a fight). Precasting cure heals I find helpful.

Generally regen is something you would only want to use on the tank. Since it creates a large amount of threat and damage taken by DPS is generally more spaced out and predictable it's better to just cure heal them. Obviously that won't always be the case so use your judgement.

Regen doesn't create any more threat per HP than a Cure but is much more mana efficient.

If a DPS gets hit and won't be in trouble if the heal takes a bit? Throw the regen.
If you use it for a boo-boo it will over-heal a lot but on bosses the tank shouldn't have an aggro problem unless you're keeping regen up on a DPS all the time when it's not needed.

If your heals feel underpowered, it is almost always that either your weapon needs an upgrade or your tank's armor needs an upgrade. Remember that magic damage is the most important stat in all spells including healing spells. Brayflox is also just outright a step up in difficulty so don't get discouraged if your first run is messy.

Also, you should be focusing more on Cure because it is a lot more MP efficient and can trigger a free Cure II. Cure II should only be used outside of Freecure if your tank is dangerously low or you are expecting a big hit coming and need them to be topped off immediately..

If you were running out of mana during the final boss, it was likely taking too long by the boss sitting in the poison pools for too long, or your party was taking too much avoidable damage.

Just be happy you have esuna in the first place. SCH healers don't get Leeches until long after this dungeon so we have to heal THROUGH 5 stacks of poison, because f* antidotes apparently.

Honestly, I've done this dungeon enough times to know it isn't a hard dungeon to heal in. It is just a step up the rung in difficulty from previous dungeons and some people don't pick up on that learning curve. If no one gets hit by the breath and Aiatar doesn't sit in his own vomit very long, it is laughably easy. As Estellios said, if you are having a hard time in Brayflox, it isn't just you. It is a team effort and if your team fails... well... yeah.

I had the same problem transitioning from Haukke Manor to Brayflox. I've only healed it once so far and I had what I felt was a somewhat undergeared tank. (pretty much all vendor bought/quested gear) He only had a bit over 1300 HP as a Paladin when I've seen most Paladins have 1500 or more at the same level. I had to Repose mobs a lot to keep him from taking a complete beatdown. You want to prioritize Cure over Cure 2 to get the Freecure procs if possible but sometimes stuff just hits too hard or your tanks can't dodge Dragon Breath from Aiatar (ugh) and you have to throw out a Cure 2 to keep them from dying.

I plan on running Brayflox some more in between some FATEs so that I can get a better feel for it and hopefully my first experience was just that of having a really undergeared tank who had never run the dungeon before, so maybe things could have went a bit more efficiently. The damage taken just felt like it increased exponentially moving between the two dungeons though.

I appreciate all the responses and helpful advice, still trying ot transition from healing in wow to healing here and i guess I should not carry the same expections as this game is a different beast hehe.

Also thats kinda crazy that weapons have a effect on healing I actually really like that, I thought htey werent that useful honestly lol.

Nope, they're hugely important - if I remember, the ratio is something ridiculous like every 1 point of weapon damage is 8 points of Mind. And all the extra mods are much lower.

But yes, Brayflox is a significant step up in difficulty - partly because of the various poisons, partly because it seems to be full of the mob types that just hit like trucks.

Done Brayflox once as Whitemage. Used 2 mana pots on the last fight. And got as advice not to overuse Esuna. Only use it once a player has 3 stacks of poison on him. And it worked :) None died, and done final boss on first try :)

I've kept Regen running on the tank all the time. And tried to use Cure 1 as much as possible. Only used Cure 2 with Free Cure procs, or when the tank took a lot of damage at once.

Maybe Im missing something here ? AFAIK Regen is 35 and Brayflox is level sync'ed to 34, so how ... ?

yeah I did it at 35 was synced down to 34 couldnt use regen :(

I would suggest all into MND because of one key aspect of WHM. Your job is to be the burst/tank healer in a group in late game. You want your healing potency to be at its peak. Determination and MND allow you to do this as well has a weapon with decent damage since that factors into the equation as well. PIE doesn't matter as much since you should be using shroud for refresh as well as aggro management. Vit doesn't help nearly as much as you'd think it would since what little bonus you get isnt enough to really mitigate anything. You should be trying to avoid as much damage as possible.

Keep shroud on CD for mana and hate mitigation and keep your cure cycles going trying for freecure proc as often as possible. You can also toss stoneskin on tank for a breather if needed.

3. Is regen just something I always keep up on the tank and don't throw out on dps? Regen is manditory on some dungeons and a party killer in others. Regen is a high emnity producing skill. Medica II in late game adds a regen as well so you can generat a lot of hate as a WHM. Use regen as a suppliment to heals if its needed or as a replacement if the need isn't so dire but don't use it constantly or your tank will come to hate you unless hes well geared. Also cycle targets to make sure where your emnity is and keep at least 2 people higher than you on hate at all times.

The problem is your accessories. One has no mind and others are too low level to be helping you much. More mind means stronger cures so you will use less mana and be able to keep the party up using cure 1. Get accessories that have MND. If you're still having mana issues get some materia and add it to your accessories. A full mind build is the best use of your attribute bonus points. The others can be brought up with gear or materia.

does it means if I got new weapon that has damage +3 compared my old weapon, my healing potency goes up as if I throw 24 attribute points...? woaaa...

It's not quite that good. I think it's more like +3 magic damage on weapon is like +15 to +18 Mind. Yeah, it's still crazy. All DPS and healing classes get super-crazy-good benefit from upgrading their weapon constantly.

I confess to being almost in tears by the time I finished Brayflox the first time. It is a huge step up in difficulty as a healer. Something I didn't realize until the Titan fight is that I had my graphics settings up too high. I have a really nice computer, but turning down the graphics made the fight soooooo much easier.

You don't have regen for Brayflox, but you do have Stoneskin. It can be a huge mana sink to try to keep up, but I put it on everyone before the fight begins. If there's a lull in the fight and I'm doing okay on MP, I'll throw it up on a DD to mitigate some damage later on.
