Razer Synapes macros OK to use?

From searching on the forums I did not find an answer, one that was 'resolved' but not questioned. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ro#post1382184

I wanted to make sure this is NOT against the TOS. I understand like most that automation is unacceptable, however, is mouse click macros acceptable? Like the post I linked, and if you are unfamiliar with it this is what razers synapes program lets you accomplish.

You can 'start record' and say click your mouse every 3 seconds. It will record this and you may now bind this macro to a mouse key, keyboard, ect. This enables you, like the linked post, to say click on a mine/tree and hit that macro and it will click mouse1 or whatever however many times you have placed it in the macro. This is obviously so that you dont have to stand and click 4 times in the same spot and only have to click/press something once.

1 click working as 4 clicks sounds a lot like automation. This is very different than a macro that requires 4 clicks to result in 4 actions e.g. a defensive cooldown cycling macro.

The recommend the Razer Naga on their Japanese site, so if the Naga has the capability to do that as well, then I'm sure that they're fine with it. Recommending a piece of hardware whose software suite can easily do something that would be against the ToS would be... Odd.

Exactly. I have used the Deathadder for years now, and have generally used the macro system within synapse to make 2 clicks one in other games without issue.

The against the TOS is subjective to me. You can' t use another piece of software for automation, but that means I could use a mechanical device pressing keyboard buttons as its not a 'third party software', which is the same and undetectable.

I suppose I will have to create a support ticket as I doubt I will get a response from SQ themselves.

im pretty sure razer macros are aloud since in game macros can also perform multiple actions with a single button click. As long as it doesnt end up playing the whole game for you (i.e. your at work and it plays for you) then it should be fine, just like any other mmo

The allowed use would probably be that of bindable keys, of course not to legalize a cheating tool.

TOS specify both software and hardware.


If you repeat the same action over and over, that's botting.
What the guy does in the thread you linked looks legit since it looks like a crafter macroing its steps, but still borderline.

However I think anything that goes beyond the software/game functions is not allowed, like could you gather with a macro? If not then you shouldn't.

Thank you for the clarification. The only thing is you can get around it looking like its automated. Say you have 2 crafting macros, one for first 'step' and one to finish. You could easily have mulitple razer synapse macros made that change the time between the two in game macros running, setting them to random orders. Sure there may be a pattern eventually but you could say the same about someone sitting there for 8 hours clicking the two macro icons, that may look like a pattern of 'botting' as well.

I generally only use these types of software for FPS games. Some where you have to 'activate' an ability then click the mouse, etc. To have mouse2 do those 2 actions in keypress is nice. Like everyone has mentioned it's borderline once you look into it. I could make an Autohotkey script that would make most things trivial where synapes doesn't have the control like programs as Autohotkey. I despise bots and how it ruins economy's as much as anyone else, if anything maybe this will help SQ in targeting players?(doubtful but one can hope)

Mouse's and Keyboards have had macro abilities built in for a long time. It is a common question to ask if using these is against any TOS, but 99.9% of the time it is ok.

It seems that there have not been any further posts about this concern being an ongoing issue. Because of this, we are considering it to be resolved.
