We really need some big and i mean BIG encounters in the open world.

GW2 did this right. I believe nearly every zone had something akin to this, but a few strike my memory more. The crystal and ice dragons. The swamp zombie dragon near the last couple of levels. These guys were Massive and it took hundreds of players to take down. I know we currently have Behemoth and Odin to do this, more or less, but seriously. Once they get this whole server priority thing fixed, I hope they can start bringing out some big, nasty, challenging stuff with the potential to wipe the floor with entire squadrons of players at once.

This comes from doing some fate farming for the hell of it and I realized just then..wow, this is kind of sad.

Tell you one that comes to mind. You seen the FFXV video they showed at the TGS a few months back? The one with the enormous Iron Giant with the sword that could basically cleave through an entire building? Yeah. Lets bring that on.

I dunno, Odin and Behemoth is a lag fest and people can't even see them.
Any bigger you'll see people teleportin and flying high in the sky.
I can't...maybe because I'm on PS3?

Behemoth is a fun large encounter if it was not for the lag and it would be nice to know when it will spam. ;P

We have enough of Odin and Behem already... 1/2 the time we can't see them at all.

Can't select PT members for Res or heals, luckily Eor or Selene can still heal them.

No, they're definitely not visible if they're not drawn on your screen but, yes, you can make them visible if you play around with your positioning.

Hundreds of people set ranged ability to auto-attack, go make a cup of tea and come back for the chest? GW2's zone bosses are not the most engaging of fights.

Not the way "big" fights are designed in FFXIV anyway.
I even stopped coming to Odin/Behemoth events because last thing I want is to wade through a blinking, disappearing crowd again and again to get hit by attacks I can't see coming and in best case scenario, *hope* that someone in my group keeps the boss targeted long enough to contribute something. It's a zergfest, lagfest and anything but an "epic fight".

Plus, FFXIV in it's current form is simply incapable of handling fights on the scale of GW2 - nor client-side (thanks SE for deciding to release it on that outdated PS3 platform), nor server-side.
So, no. You want HNMs - make the fights instanced, like current Primal trials.

The whole reason I quit playing GW2 was because it was sooo easy and casual... Don't get me wrong it was beautiful, fun for ahwile, and great... groundbreaking even but those world events you are bragging about weren't as fun as you make them out to be. For example.... those dragons that the entire storyline is hyped up to be the ultimate evil... stay in one spot.... don't aggro anyone in peticular and can be abused by standing in a safe spot... and spamming auto attack... so that no one has to take any damage from them at all... Seriously where is the challenge in that?

The game's engine and server barely supports Odin and Behemoth... Until thy either upgrade the engine and/or servers and people shift away from PS3... neah.
Also the engine is not optimized at all for large groups of players, it just breaks apart even on powerhouse machines.

I've ran those encounters. It's true you could catch a niche and stick to it at max range, but that's still dicey because the patterns were the same but they had adds coming out to make matters worse. So you could go afk, then come back to a corpse.

Could OP explain what it was that made those events in GW2 fun? I am asking because even if there was no lag at all and I can could see the mob the entire time, I see absolutely no fun in zerging a mob down because it requires zero skill. It is not a challenge to zerg things down. I wouldn't mind them adding more things like this if people enjoy it of course, diversity ftw, but just wondering why you want them.

Kinda second that - if there is an element of "challenge" or "fun" to Odin and Behemoth encounters in their current form, I didn't notice ANY. Open world encounters without any participant limits are in vast majority of cases, dumb zerg-fests and corpse-runs. We don't need more of that, and most certainly, not when FFXIV can't handle the existing ones.

I would like something similar to Besieged in FFXI. Mobs invading a town/city, not just at a single point, but from all angles. There wasn't as much zerging as there is in FATEs (not until the final part anyway), because people were spread out defending different areas. If the city is invaded you lost things like merchants, exp bonuses, etc.

It would probably work better if a new city was designed around it though, rather than using the existing ones. Also if there was some way to scale it depending on how many people are on line that would be good.

They are adding Primal FATES, Shanttoto FATE, Lightning FATE and I'm sure in the future there will be more Large Boss FATES.

But, I wouldn't ask for this until they fix the main problem though, which is character limit and grid restrictions making you not able to even see the Boss you're fighting.

With the amount of "flash" in this game, no thanks... Odin and Behemoth is bad enough :\

Problem is (probably PS3 exclusive or a bug only I seem to have), despite having party and other effects turned off, I can still see Shadow Flare, Sacred Soil and Flaming Arrow effects, which are the exact effects I do not want to see.

Also, Behemoth is clearly Intangir. Just cast Death when he Vanishes :P

Mobs also took priority in appearance over summons, pets and players in events like Besieged. While they were incredibly laggy (lolXBox), at least I could see what I was attacking :)

I would really love to see some large encounters as well. Personally I don't consider Behemoth to be that large compared to some of the large monsters I've seen in other games such as Rift and GW2. Make them hard too, although I suppose nothing is hard when an unlimited amount of people can attack it.

Notorious Monsters (rare spawns) would be a nice addition. For starters, they shouldn't drop anything too great just yet. Maybe a dungeon tier piece (at best) of appropriate level. Maybe one NM would drop a bound chest piece (relevant to what the NM might represent) on occasion, while other times would be generic drops depending on mob type or nothing at all. Make only a handful difficult but soloable, while others require some help. Just something to add a little flare to the world, similar to coffers during leves.

Save huge lagfest encounters (like Odin/Behemoth) for very rare occasions. The generic NMs from FFXI added a HUGE amount of content to take part in (be it in a group or alone), and will always look fondly to it. Even during those long camp times... despite the possibility of not claiming.

The only thing GW2 got right (to me) is an intuitive culling system for large encounters (and the ice dragon boss, visually impressive). Besides that, I found everything incredibly generic, and found the hype around the absence of the 'mmo-trinity' to be a gimmick that often just resulted in 'taking turns kiting'.

I would love some kind of NM's & farm to pop NM's like FFXI had. I have no interest in camped/contested mobs that you waste hours waiting for with no guarantee of even getting to kill...got my fill of camps in FFXI. Something similar to "Sky" or even "Limbus" would be great. Kill this, chance that this cool item could drop, guarantee you get this pop item, collect the set & spawn something better...blah blah blah. All I know is that with the way Behemoth & Odin are currently, I could care less to see anymore of those encounters being added until it is fixed.

It's sad that when FFXI was released in US, the PS2 version of the game ran far smoother than the PS3 version of this game. I played on both PC & PS2 for over 7 years of FFXI & I never had the issues that the PS3 is having with this game. For starters...I could do besieged & see everything I needed to as well as plenty of random players to raise &/or heal. There wasn't an 8-10 character model restriction. Of course you could argue that this game looks much better graphically than FFXI...but in that same respect, the PS3 is more powerful than the PS2 was & should perform close to the same comparatively.
