Little things I really hope they implement soon

- Being able to talk to NPCs while mounted. Or at least auto dismount us when we attempt to talk to an NPC

- Able to accept party invites, FC/LS invites, and friend requests while in a menu (shopping, character, market board, etc)

- An option to auto sort the party member list by roles each time you join a pt. Or at least let me swap my position from the top to anywhere I'd like. I know we can manually move people around, btw.

- Able to look for more members when in an instance with people from the same server. Having one person rage quit mid dungeon and having to exit to find a new members sucks. I know you can look for a replacement, but at the moment, you can't if you're in a pre-made party.

- Allow us to look for new members during primal fights.

- Not something that's needed, but I think it would be great if we could assign names to the pages in the retainer storage

They already answered this one I think, where they felt everyone would do this and it would break the 'immersion' basically.

I agree completely, most games would sort it Tanks > Healers > DPS automatically, this is the first game i've seen that just throws them in randomly.

The chocobo thing might fix this, where let's say you're 3/4 into Sastatcha and a healer or DPS drops out, you can summon your chocobo to fight along side you, filling the extra role, they said this would be slated to be released soon(ish).

Not sure they'd do this based on memory consumption, but you never know, the reason they're using icons instead of text is actually based off memory consumption, where the icons use less memory than text oddly enough.

I would add:

being able to command pets while casting
being able to get on mount without dismissing chocobo
fixing 'gliding' issues when moving while using melee skills
instant skills actually being instant

Okay, I agree with some of these. Such as the primal fight member addition, that's definitely needed.

Even in those started via DF.

Who is complaining? lol. Also, it's more of a comfort. Why should I dismount and mount again just to turn in a quest?

Because it's the way the game is made. If you're using that logic then why should you do anything. Forget fighting the Primal Hard Modes, just give me my relic. Why should I have to fight? This way is easier.

all the memory limitation we encounter is really bothering, expetially in the UI... they really need to allows more to pc user.

i'm really really scared about futur, if they don't get ride of the trouble... i seriously hope passed 2-4 years they will drop the ps3 or this game will have huge trouble mostly because the ps3 will have not enough memory for add more content!!

1. Don't even know what the reply function is, can't be that big of a deal.

2. Funny thing is, people like you (i.e. people who compare this to every other MMO ever) are constantly saying this, and didn't even want Duty Finder in the game to begin with.

3 and 4. Yes, but that's my point. If the range was 1 metre instead of 3, I wouldn't cry about it and beg them to change it. I'd just walk up to the NPC and talk.

Spoilt people ranting is going to end up screwing us out of getting actual issues fixed because they're too busy finding a way to let you fight alongside your chocobo while riding a clone version, or changing the menu colour because it doesn't match your walls.

As I said, things such as the Primal fight parties need fixing, because it is making the game much more difficult as people are struggling to get parties. Whereas if you can't get off a chocobo to talk to someone then that's just pure laziness and you should just have to get used to it.

P.S. Picking and choosing your punctuation makes you look stupider than using none at all.

No one mentioned it being hard. Pressing one button is never hard. It is annoying though. Press dismount, talk to npc, press mount. I see no reason I shouldnt be able to talk to an npc from on top of my horse.

Let me and a few players from 1.0 go to the npc you need to turn your quest into while we are all sitting on our goobues and you ll see why or start bitching at us to move because you cant target said npc.

Once they release the ability to make custom changes to the GUI this will probably be less of a problem but, I would love to be able to color box abilities on the action bar based on what they do (This would be nice for the cross-bar too).

Example: Defensive abilities would be set together on the action bar/cross bar and be encased in a Dark Blue Rectangle/Cross Box, Attack Enhancing abilities would be set near each other and be encased in a Red Rectangle/Cross Box, etc. with the option for users to use whatever color they want from a selection of 192 colors or whatever.

This would help me a lot because the icons confuse the crap out of me in 2.0 (it was worse in 1.0 until they made changes at the end with 1.23) and quickly finding abilities I've set for each class/job takes some getting used to every time I switch, especially on the Cross Bar (I play with a controller most of the time).

I just figured I would clarify before anyone gets the wrong idea (seems to happen a lot around here), you would still be able to customize how your actions are set to the action bar or cross bar, but in addition to that you could go to something like say, the UI Customization under Systems, and choose to highlight skills you want to wrap a transparent colored box around to indicate what that ability does allowing you to locate abilities you're looking for faster.

This also has the added bonus of teaching you how your classes operate, and the best part is that you're teaching yourself so that you can learn as you please.

The issue is: we dont need it and 2. if players do not have to dismount than targeting the npc will become more of a chore. Basicly get off your mounts than get back on. There is no reason why players can not get off their mount to talk to an npc unless they are just plain lazy to do so. Also the goobue mount is very large so in fact they can pretty much block veiw as well as making it extremely hard to target npc. I would assume you didnt get what I was getting at by your post. So again get a bunch of 1.0 players together have them mount their goobues and crowd the npc and than you will see how much of a chore it is to target that npc.

I think it's more of a convenience issue.

We don't auto-dismount while riding into a city either. Why?

In FFXIV 1.0 we auto-dismounted when we tried talking to an NPC out in the field, which was convenient.
Seeing a message pop up stating, "You must first dismount to talk to NPCs." is completely backwards and stupid.
More than likely it takes the same amount of programing to put up that one message as to auto-dismount the player trying to perform the action.


I can see what you're saying about the mounts, but keeping the current system in place is just mind bogglingly wrong.
(And I better not see a Dev come in here claiming PS3 memory limitations! We can do this in friggin FFXI for God's sake!)

Automatic dismounting isn't a 'memory limitation', it simply wasn't added.

Being able to click the mount off with a press of a button or a right click is so convenient that I doubt they'd change this.


(I'd be nice though)

I rather have something like this in the inventory / retainer than giant icons I need to hover on to know what it is with no search/sort function.

Auto dismount I can support but talking to a npc while mounted I can not support that idea due to the main reason/s listed above.

*By the way, the longest item name in the game is over 60 characters long.

While there were comments mentioning that if the item name is too long, we can have an ellipsis to truncate it, but for other languages the end of a word often shows the grade or special characteristic and if we truncated it this would result in it looking like a list of the same item names.

Additionally, the larger issue at hand is the latter one involving memory. When it comes to UI, the bitmap images are used for both icons and text that are loaded by memory, but the number of elements to display a single item are far less when using an icon than using a string of text.

Unlike a typical offline RPG, it's necessary to have the proper structure to allow for multiple windows to be displayed at any given time or place in an MMO. If memory management and image asset management isn't set tighter than an offline RPG, it will become laggy and not function properly.

The amount of resources that can be utilized for game designs where they can avoid menus during battle screens and such is very different.

*For those of you who are interested, please try an press the b, c, p, j, m, i, u, y, h, and k keys in succession on the PC version to open up multiple windows. There will gradually be stress placed on the system, but there almost no RPGs that exist that are designed to allow you to play the game with windows displayed like this. Being able to do this – for example, when fighting a primal – is a special characteristic of an MMO.

Taking a holistic approach to the circumstances and limitations here, we made the decision that it would be best to display items in inventory and Armoury Chest with icons. With that said though, while it will be difficult to do for the PS3 version, it is possible to have a separate option for text display in the PC version.

If only 10 icons are displayed with text, then we could separate the tabs into categories and it just might be possible to do this for the PS3 as well.

Currently, we are in the midst of stress testing the final large component of the UI that is constantly displayed on the screen – the alliance display. Once we've finalized this we can start taking a look at display variations and customization for existing features, but until then I apologize for any inconveniences and appreciate your understanding.

I still don't get why we cannot have text lists for the items.
We have the FC window that can list 512 characters' names + all the other info beside them but then we cannot have enough characters for the items…

Here are a few off the top of my head. I'll post more as they come to me.

- Auto-sort inventory that actually works.

- Searchable inventory (I don't need to see the text - I just want to be able to verify that I have something by typing in some text in a search box)

- Option to reconcile item stacks stored in different parts/pages of your or retainer's inventory

- Option to move items between retainers

- Make backward and forward movement the same speed. You can emulate this using legacy controls but I prefer the former's camera

- Ability to control pet while mounted (I just want the ability to say heel/steady)

- Option to filter stuff like other players' materia conversion messages

- Keep the quest markers on the map until I choose to not display them

- Fix the bug that sometimes makes FATES not display on the map

- Option to use HQ ingredients as default for crafts - it's silly the game still expects me to specifiy that I want to use the HQ ingredient when I don't have NQ...
