Need advice: Titan HM

So I have been putting it off for a while now but I know I need to kill Titan HM if I ever want to move forward on my relic quest.

So I have looked around and have not found any recent posts about what I need gear wise for Titan HM. I know DL is needed. However I don't know how much. Full or partial.

I currently have a DL chest and belt with hoplite boots, gloves and pants. I have DL earrings and choker of fending. The rest is HQ amber until I can afford the rest of my jewelry.

I have Garuda's Gaze for my sword and a ilvl 47 shield. I have had zero luck with WP dropping my shield so far.

So do I just need to keep grinding to get my stones until I have a full DL set or can I fudge some of my gear?

Also any detailed info about what to do when tanking Titan would be greatly appreciated.

I'd recommend replacing the Amber rings and belt before going into Titan.
The shield could be better but the armor is more important, and you'll probably get the shield fro grinding WP often.

I forgot to mention I already had my DL belt and added it to my list. Also, I have heard you can only have one type of DL ring on at a time. Is there any truth to this or can I have two DL rings of fending?

Darksteel armour (crafted) is better than Darklight (except the belt) and the chest and legs are actually cheaper (1150 tomes versus 1320). Darklight legs do have a butt-load of accuracy though.

Anyway, I would consider darklight/darksteel armour in all slots as well as Ifrit/Garuda's weapon a minimum. Jewellery should be HQ Amber at a minimum, but darklight is preferred.

Darksteel is a huge waste of gil imho. If you really want to spend millions of Gil on HQ darksteel go for it but DL is more than enough to start Coil with.

@ the OP: I would say farm AK for a couple days and replace your accessories with DL then go kill Titan. You want ~5150hp minimum. Pro heals can deal with less but if you don't have healers you know or are using the DF you'll want to be as beast as possible.

Amdapour Keep drops a tanking ring you can utilize.

@Paikis: Darksteel is rather expensive to obtain though.

Thankfully past the gear side of things Titan is rather simple to tank.

There is a spot you can stand which avoids needing to move more than a few steps to dodge bombs.

Apart from that you need to know when he does Mountain Buster AKA 'table flip' during Phase 5 (after the heart is killed), as that is likely what is going to kill you as a tank if you or the healers aren't prepared for it. It is also why Titan is a gear check for tanks more than anything as this ability hits like a train and the more HP you have the better.

Mountain buster is the the first thing he does out of heart phase, it presents the most threat as the transitions involves Titan doing his big BOOM move, so if they healers haven't topped you up this will kill you unless you blow some heavy cooldown. That said, using a cooldown for each buster is useful as there is a lot of stuff going on for the healers to worry about.

Phase 5:
Mountain Buster -> Stomp -> Plume -> Bombs With Landslide -> Mountain Buster -> Plume -> Rock -> Landslide. (Repeat)

Dark steel is not an option for me right now. I don't have a crafter who can make it for me cheaply. I will top out my jewelry here this weekend since it is just 4 CM runs a piece and I can. Run that in my sleep. Pants/boots are the part I am not looking forward to.

If you're still lacking the Darklight Kite Shield, I honestly suggest you do Wandering Palace instead of Castrum Meridianum. Same amount of Tomestones (for likely less work) and a shot at getting the next best (though likely best, Darksteel Scutum is a 2star craft too) shield prior to Titan. :p

I do feel your pain, though. Took me 32 runs to get my Darklight Kite Shield, was like 400 tomestones short of full Darklight by that point. :(

I would but I always seem to find it hard to pug usually because DPS usually fail at the second boss, easy as he is. Last boss has also seemed to land me with DPS that can't keep up with the adds.

Sadly my FC has only a few 50's right now and of those, one is a WAR. SK grouping up with them is not an option.

I would at least replace 1 ring and the bracelet with DL, but you have enough HP to tank Titan. Remember, you can use food to give yourself the extra boost.

I rather not push my luck until I have a few more pieces of DL gear. Its honestly not that hard to knock out a hundred tomes. 45 minutes to an hour. I could have everything I need by Monday if I wanted to really grind out my dungeons. But I will at least finish my jewelry and gloves today I think.

THIS.

There is no reason to ever do CM after getting the quest done. Both WP and AK give you 100 philo and 30/40 myth making them more lucrative than CM. Both WP and Ak can be done in 20-35 minutes with a competent group.

Just summarizing the advice in this thread for you, which I agree with for the most parts.

1. Run Wanderer's Palace until you get your full Darklight set. The Kite Shield is nice, but not important - you can probably survive with the Level 44 Grand Company shield, I did mine with the Scorpion Shield (Level 44 Shield from Dzemael Darkhold).
2. Your full Darklight set should include: Heavy Darklight Armor (Head + Chest), Heavy Darklight Plate Belt, Heavy Darklight Gauntlet, Heavy Darklight Flanchard (Legs + Boots), Darklight Earrings of Fending, Darklight Choker of Fending, Darklight Bracelet of Fending, Darklight Ring of Fending, and Hoplite Ring. The Hoplite Ring can be acquired from Amdapor Keep. If you have enough Tomestone of Mythology, you can get the Hero's Band of Fending instead too. I did mine with the above set, using Hoplite Ring, but my gloves were Hoplite Gauntlets.
3. You should look at having a minimum of 5.3k or 5.4k HP before taking on Titan as a Paladin.
4. It might also be easier for you to go to Mor Dhona and join a Titan party there, rather than using the Duty Finder. It would probably be more organized, and an organized party of 1 tank, 5 dps, and 2 healers probably have the easiest time beating Titan - hence why you need to be adequately geared.
5. While you hopefully won't need to, but I suggest knowing Titan's attack patterns for Phase 5 (post-heart). Specifically, when he will use Weight of the Land. If you have more than 3 dead teammates, he will start including you as a target for Weight of the Land as well, so you should dodge it when you can to avoid piling stress on the healer - they'll have a hard enough time keeping you alive from Mountain Buster.

Titan is an enjoyable fight if you keep coming back to it. Good luck!

A few bits of advice.

- Only use DF for practise. Titan can be beaten with multiple tanks, but it's considerably harder.

- Everything before p5 is easy for the tank to avoid. p5 is what you need to memorise so you know when to hit CDs for Mountain Buster.
- - - Titan will use the first mountain buster directly after heart phase.
- - - The p5 rotation is: Mountain Buster -> Stomp -> Plume -> Bombs With Landslide -> Mountain Buster -> Plume -> Rock -> Landslide. (Repeat)
- - - Don't worry about learning this all, just not the two moves before each Mountain Buster and use them to prepare yourself to hit your CDs.
- - - Make sure no one uses any move that adds the blind effect (Ruin II, for example) this is because you can use Flash + one CD to negate a lot of MB's damage.

Tanks have it easier than the others, but that's not to say you're role isn't important. If you can negate/mitigate as much damage as possible, it will make the fight a lot easier for your healers (who have the toughest time).

I beat Titan with Ifrit Sword and Full Darklight + HQ Amber Ring. I had 5300 VIT and it felt like /just/ enough during P5.

I would go to Revenant's Toll and build your own /shout group. Asking to join as a PLD will take too long as /shout groups only need 1 tank and almost every group asking for members will have one.

Good luck, and be patient! You will probably wipe a lot, and have to try for quite a few hours. When our group beat Titan we'd been trying for 3 hours, and had replaced 4 members during that time. It takes a core group willing to tough it out (unless of course you get extremely lucky with a slid group first time).

Oh hey, my best bit of advice - do use Flash (if Paladin) from time to time. Or get a Summoner to drop Blind or Virus for you before Mountain Buster.

Nothing more satisfying than seeing "Mountain Buster DODGE"

For tank I really recommend you just get full, or nearly full DL both sides. The damage you take in the last phase is massive and difficult to heal through. It's very doable in your current gear set but it leaves very little room for error, on both your part and your healers. The difference in ease of healing someone in full DL versus partial is night and day.

There is also the issue of threat. Your WHM will be spamming medica/medica 2 during tumults and a well geared healer will struggle to not steal hate. The enmity you have in full DL will help tremendously in keeping Titan off the healers.

Save your cooldowns for after the heart is broken. Immediately after landslide he will do mountain buster which deals about 3.5k HP damage. Find a video to tell you where to stand to avoid bombs. Learn his rotation so you know what to expect. Have your healers use virus to mitigate damage from mountain buster and tumults.

Really you dont need 5.1k HP to do HM Titan I did it with 4.7k, you don't need full DLs...

I did it with quest AF helm and Hoplites, Darklight Macu and Kite.

All you need to do is learn your rotate your CD properly, Flash before Rock Buster if gets dodged hurray keep your CD cause Mountain Buster is up next. Pop only 1 CD will effectively make Mountain Buster only hit for 2.5k. Only use Hallowed Ground if your healer can't get you up to 4k hp after the Rock Buster. And if all fails there is as many recommended stuff to reduce damage like Virus and Rain of Death. Time to quit being a mp sponge and learn to mitigate damage, there are tonnes of Paladin's out there who don't spam Scorn of Hate and Spirits Within when there is no AoE or Silence requirement when the skill is off the GCD so threat is not an issue.

Though I haven'y gotten my Conjurer to 34, Stoneskin helps alot cause it prevent cast cancel you can cast back to back Stoneskins to totally make Titan look like a joke.

If you're doing titan with 4.7k hp you're being carried. I don't understand why people want to even do titan with such low ilvl gear. You're better off spending the time you would wiping going to WP to get darklight gear which will have alot more of an effect on your tanking capability than relic.

If you're in an FC run, then anything goes, you can do it naked for all anyone cares, but joining DF with less than full darklight (for any class), you're just leeching. I've only just started doing titan with DF for practice and I waited until I had full DF, simply because a smart tank gears smart. It's alot easier to get full darklight than to spend time wiping needlessly on titan, and if someone joins titan with 4.7k hp with duty finder, then that means they don't have the sense to know how to gear properly and are just looking to be carried.

The fact is, using DF which gives you 2 tanks, titan is a very hard encounter. Add into it you're doing it in a team that has no voice coms and alot may be new to the encounter, it's literally stupid to do it in anything other than full or close to full DF. You're just wasting your time, and everyone elses.

It's the same as people telling me you need Full DLs and Relic +1 to clear Baha 1/2. Wipe relentlessly? I wiped on HM titan not because I died it's cause people can't kill the heart out of the 8 attempts 2 times managed to get pass heart and got it at the 2nd attempt, 1st one was cause healer died from Weight of the Land. On DF with 2 link Shell DPS friends, him and me needing kills for Relic.

That said, I suppose the average skill level of Japanese players is better than Western crowd. Though I'd give it to Western folks when it comes peak level skill. I've done Hardmodes in WoW, theorycrafted and if that all means shit to you. I have cleared Bahamut 4 with PuGs. Tanked Titan HM with 5.8k HP as warrior on top of 4.7k Paladin while you still cry that Titan HM is a "Very Hard" encounter... Smart tanks use their CDs and skill to get them through encounter, not waiting gears to "carry" them through content. Whats the point of going into Bahamut with full Myth gears?

The thing is, I say you need full DL for DFs because you're trying to get every advantage.

For example, you say a healer died during weight of the lands. No one should be dying from that, but maybe he was trying to land a heal that would save your (the tank's) life. Maybe if you had 1k more health, he wouldn't have had to risk getting hit with weight. Very little is black or white, right or wrong. If people have full DFs, less risks need to be taken by healers trying to keep everyone alive etc. You can't just say a healer died because he's a noob unless you know the whole story.

If you're going in with less than full DF then other members in the group might have to take risks which might lead to a wipe, to keep you alive. It might seem it was their fault and it's easy to throw blame on people dying to aoes and stuff, but unless you're in full DF you're not doing your part.

Smart play is always better than gear. However there simply are certain encounters that are strict gear checks, ie even with the best possible skill you're still going to fail without the gear.
I actually am in agreement you can do T1-4 in a mixture of AK/DL gear. However, the average raid crew is not going to pull it off if every single person in the party is wearing gear equivalent to yours.
