Fishing needs to be changed to function like mining or botany give us ability

Like in mining or botany u pick ur target material that u want to harvest or mine why it cant function that way for fishers let us target pool of fish and pick type of fish we want to from that pool isnt each bait designed to target specific fish i dont see the harm in making small menu and picking desired fish with needed bait to catch it

FSH is fine as it is. NO CHANGES needed whatsoever.

Well fishing will always have a chance aspect to it. Think of if this weekend you went to a lake and brough gear and bait to catch say trout, yet since the lake has a number of different kinds of fish you may get bites from any of them. Even though the bait you had bought was designed for trout fishing. This is really why I think it should stay the same. Makes the class more fun that way.

I would say fishing is fine as is.

Only thing I would change is that the record book kept track of which bait caught which fish. Fishing itself is fine as is IMO.

If you go to sea and see a pool of tuna cast ur rod into that pool would you get another type of fish beside tuna?

Fine ... then I want to be able to mine, harvest, and chop wood from the same spot multiple times without having to move anywhere. I would also like to always be able to get something out of every attempt, even if its not what I want.

There is always a chance, because there are other fish that swim with tuna schools for protection from predators. Though very slim. But back to the game there are spots where only one fish will bite at the bait you use on your line, with this you can target fish you want.

So fishing IMO is fine, about the only changes I would like to see is a tackle box and more fish used in crafting.

Boring, i want fishing to be akin to the old RPG method. Take Dark Cloud 2 for example

Compared to a real life situation if you were mining or harvesting it would be easy to see a carrot from a turnip or a lump of silver from gold. If you cast a line into a large body of water you can't see what the heck is out there or whether it will like your bait or not, they are fishes : D

Lv 50 fisher here. Fishing is pretty much fine. All it needs really is more fish viable to the AH. In other words more stuff we can sell. Other than that, its completely fine.

Well given that Fishing is intended to just be a by-time, not exactly something intended to impact anything (like how Mining/Botany does), I doubt we'll see such things anytime in the near future (as in probably not till 2015, possibly late 2014). Maybe if fishing somehow becomes really popular, Yoshi-P will change his philosophy on it, but I think he currently intends for it to be only done by a very small percentage of players, so of little impact.

The only thing that needs to happen to fishing is to see where my line actually enters the water. That and maybe some agitation/splashing on the water's suface as I reel her in. Otherwise, it's just fine.

This! I couldnt believe how bland the animations (or lack of) for fishing are. Was a major letdown.

Well, it makes sense to have certain bait target certain fish.

Not that I would make a certain bait 100% foolproof in nabbing a specific fish, you can't just pick what fish bites on your line the same as picking a fruit or mining for specific rocks, but it does have an effect in real world applications of fishing - so why not?

They could even implement a tacklebox so you don't have 439458734250876 different kinds of bait in your inventory. I would find that acceptable.

I mean, really, the tackle box should be the off hand tool with higher levels able to store better/more tackle/bait.

Honestly, SE, you should run this crap past me before you run off halfassing stuff.

To be fair you just need to keep an eye on what is selling and what isn't. Plus there are pools with high value catches that have a narrow range of fish (4 at most) so that kind of helps.

For the record I'm pretty close to 100k profit this week from just fishing casually every night and the week isn't over.

Side note: to the person who seems to think that every catch is guaranteed.....you need to fish more. Let's have a nifty comparison.

Mining/Botany: "*CLUNK* "You got nothing" - onoes you missed and didn't get something you already didn't have.
Fishing: *WHIRRRRR, SNIP* "The fish took your lure" - welp, that's 2-4k you just lost.

I have a feeling that this is why fishing is the way it currently is. Also Yoshi-p said it was meant to be a relaxing hobby, not competitive or stressful.

If there were to be any sort of 'targeting' of fish, like stuff for botany of mining, I think an increase the chance for that particular fish by 10-25% would be ok. Maybe with some adjustments for bait used.

As it is now, I have no probelm with fishing. Can be boring as hell, but it's something to do while waiting for a dungeon to pop.

2- go invs
3- select the bait u want
4- connect X360 controller
5- close down your monitor
6- go to bed with the controller "ignore wife/gf comment"
7- Fish!!!

That's where I am thinking too.

Though they could go as high as 70% on certain baits for certain fish. RnG in this game is wonky enough that even 90% you are looking at 50/50 at best.

Exactly, it is (you can fish) as you wrote. I'm doing similar thing. Fishing in my kitchen (real one) far away from my TV or while watching movies (not seeing game screen). THAT is the reason for a change in fishing in my opinion.

I think fishing should be made fun by making it a not demanding mini game, which let you forget about other things. Something that, as it was said by Yoshi himself, let us relax. Not make us living bots only pushing one button when fish bites.

OP is incorrect, FSH does not need to have a menu selection to target fish directly, as that would pretty much forfeit what makes the class unique.

Random whiteknighting FFXItards are also incorrect, FSH is far from "fine." Saying a class is fun for being able to AFK while it functions, borders away from gameplay and into the realm of "automatic chore." A boring one that can only find mostly worthless items. There's absolutely no reason to invest in FSH now, over BTN and MIN, unless you just want everything at 50. Have at it, but some of us would like to be practical.

What FSH really needs is the ability to get crystals and catalysts. That alone would go leagues towards repairing its current situation. I also wouldn't mind more abilites/tackle box/fishing log that shows more specific information/crossclass functionality. The class just feels very unfinished. Which is unsurprising since it wasn't even added until beta 4.

What they really need to do is make Fishing more worth it.
5 fish is only useful.
Screw a roo on this gather too.
But I think it'll be fun to see what fish you want. I like Mining and Botany
and not just be hoping I'ma get a Shard every other hit.

Fishing is NOT fine as it is. Aside from opinions of its usefulness, it barely even counts as a disciple of the land. It has GP like any other DoL but has no use for it. You can activate the Ward abilities from miner and botanist while fishing but these seem to do nothing. Outside of that, the only ability FSH has is Mooch, and this does not require any GP, making GP a meaningless statistic and rendering gatherer accessories mostly useless without adding as much materia as they can take for perception/gathering.

Not to sound condescending, but how is this different from 'real life' bait fishing?

You bait the hook, attach a bobber if needed (most often is), and you sit around hoping that you catch something worth while.

Is it fun? Not really, much like real life bait fishing. Is it relaxing? I think it is, compared to most other activities in game.. it at least allows me to trudge through my College work.

It may look similar to you, but still it isn't.

Firstly, I don't want a game to be like real life. Game should be more game like, give a fun feeling of doing something else than just waiting. Just look on other fishing games there are, because they are games they have to be something more than real life waiting for a fish. Oh, and totally forgot about the most important thing! Do you always get a fish when you see your hook moving in real life? You do have to have skill to really get that fishy! Reel your line, stop, reel again, be careful about reeling speed and in the end depending on the size of the fish use a net so it won't fall off the hook. It is not that easy as to press one button.

Secondly, fishing in your room for a virtual data that you can't eat and fishing outside with real fresh air, wind, birds singing... moscitos bitting you isn't the same. Or am I wrong in this...?

Finaly, well... can we, do we have to compare real life fishing with a game? Totally different thing for me.

Fishing is boring and most of fish are completely useless...but i'm fine with that.
You just relax, hold a controller , do fishing without even watching game screen, make a little profit.
i would be happy if we could use GP for something though.

That was a cop out because fishing is commonly abused by RMT in every game that has a fishing feature. All making fishing a "hobby" (that is to say, mostly useless) did was push RMT to mining and botany instead. Proof that it was a poor strategy to counter RMT and should be reversed, making fishing equally useful to the other gathering classes.

Like others before me, Fishing is fine but the only thing I would change is adding a tackle box to store baits and lures. Think of it like the gunner's pouch in MH3U. It could have a limited number of bait spots but I think it could be reasonable.

This argument is beyond ridiculous. Have you even tried fishing?

If I want to gather a specific item through Mining or Botany I can get 100 of said item in less than 20 minutes (even with the tremendous "chore" that moving around apparently is for you). Try doing the same with Fishing even in the few cases where you know that a certain bait will only net you 1 type of fish. Now try getting a fish that requires mooching.

Fisher as it is currently is a pretty lame DoL. GP is useless. No off-hand tool. 1 single ability to use. I won't comment on the usefulness of the fish that we get because I'm still not 50 to get the whole picture.

The fishing log is great, but everything else around this class is pretty lame.

No. Please no. It makes no sense to choose which fish you want to bite your bait.

I'd rather see mining be more of a chance thing too to be honest. It feels silly that gemstones and such are way less valuable than simple ore and other things you need in large quantities.

I wouldn't mind an ability that increases HQ catch chance slightly or a higher chance to get higher level fish or something like that to use the GP.

I wonder why we cant get HQ baits? when make it with Culinarian even with level 50 they give u 0% to HQ any bait
