AF gives me mana on my whm. Those "upgrades" do not
makes me wonder why he's running AK in the first place? if he doesn't want to equip any DL gear he will get from the tomstones or any of the drops.....lol
Sounds like you got trolled.
STYLE > stats
It would still be better then if the had lv1 gear. Because they want to soul bind it to convert it.
I can't blame 'em. AK gear is fuuuuuugly. There's a reason I've stuck to my AF robe while gathering up myth tomes. I've no desire to look like I'm level 15 again!
I've put some effort in the AK set and I couldn't be more satisfied. That mask is hilariously ugly.

Its not like your 'hurting your group' that badly. Plus, by the time you've gathered enough tomes for the DL body, you can just get the accessories and everything else first then move right on to af2 for your body.
Don't get me wrong though, I personally hate the vanilla AF because its just so... overplayed. I liked rocking my WP gear for a while, as a tank you look just like a brass blades guard! Stats for the body was identical (literally. in every way) to af body though, so...
I've got all but one DL and +1 Relic.....but I will not....WILL NOT....walk around in monk panties. So I wont have full DL.
AK is hard.
ran AK with a Black Mage today with a lv 39 staff, Dragoon wasn't much better with a 41 spear and brayflox armor. needless to say I was on relic PLD and after 14 painful minutes fighting first boss (at one point all 4 enemies were up, Golem, Lunatic Priest, Psycheflayer and White Golem) I politely said I was going to leave and we lack the necessary damage to challenge the next boss.
it was painful
I will keep mana over spell speed till I'm working on final gear sets. If you choose otherwise then so be it. I'll stick with my gaming knowledge and gear selection as I've been doing so in far more complicated games than this. But thank you for the assumptions to the contrary.
This is completely off topic but: damn you people and your intoxicating can't-look-away .gif banners!
Years ago I was running a Wow Nax raid and managed to win the DP bidding for a weapon drop (but forgot to equip it!) A short while later one of the group spotted this and asked in raid chat why I wasn't using it. The only thing I could think of as a reply was that it was new and I didn't want to break it....
I too choose style over stats which is why I skipped darklight and got af2 body on paladin.
I kind of agree with the looks thing as well since I skipped DL for my Valor armor, but I actually had to choose if I wanted to spend 1320 tomes on that item, if it was a drop from a dungeon there is no question I would have equipped it.
I tend not to immediately equip new gear gained in dungeons mainly because I rarely get new gear in dungeons. Being a reasonable person I never roll Need even if it's something I can, mostly cause I'm not that self-centered. That said, though, if I do get something I weigh the cost of repairs against the benefit of putting it on. Most of the time the cost outweighs the good. If I feel I'm suffering for not wearing it, though, I might, but that's rarely ever been the case.
I think my class quest robe is horrible. DL looks so much better. Doesn't look like I'm wrapped in pvc.
It's self-centered because I'm not the only one in that instance. Rolling Need is like flicking a bird at the rest of the party, at least that's how it feels to me. And yes, repairs are cheaper now but they weren't always. I haven't gotten anything since the reduction of repair costs so the issue hasn't come up to be an issue.
If you're party isn't a group of petulant children, they'll actually be glad for you to get gear that you can use. I always pass on things that can be needed and is needed by fellow party members, and I'm sure many others do too. Don't hesitate to need on stuff in the future, you'll be missing out on gearing up your class :T Only time I can think of where it would be a crappy move is if you need on something you've already outleveled
I think the general etiquette rule for dungeon loots is that if it's an upgrade for the class you're running the dungeon as, then hitting need and equipping the piece is not at all self-centered. Hitting need on stuff that you won't actually use is a different story entirely.
I'm always glad when others get loot. Means things die quicker or I get bigger heals. Also, just because ... ... ... ... ...
