Has anyone cleared The Wanderer's Palace with two summoners? Curious to know this answer.
Nope, nobody ever.
Lots of people have? did several speed runs, just as fast as any other classes. Why would you think they can't do it? its not like it's a hard dungeon.
sure, why not?
Normally you just poke the adds while yiou burn the boss as fast as possible. When I run, don't have anyone specifically going after them. but we're talking well geared speed running. Ive done it before before being well geared and SR, its a little harder but SMN can do it just fine if he knos what he's doing. You don't dot them, you just run 2 them while running around. They don't have much HP. Lay down your dots on boss and use contagion, don't waste actions dotting the adds.
But really, just stick to well geared people, and zerg the boss. Bane or ruin 2 them when they get close. You don't need to (and don't want to) kill all of them, just a few between each rancor.
I always solo the King's adds as SMN. It's easy. You don't DoT all of them. Sic Garuda on one, DoT another, use Energy Drain on another. They drop fast. If your Summoner was trying to stack DoTs on every single one, then he was wasting time and that's why they weren't going down. At worst you can kill an add with a few Ruins.
2 summoners and what? a tank and healer? A well geared summoners who knows their jobs are quite versatile in terms of roles. By the number players of any class/jobs will have a hard time clearing the content of any dungeons. I have used SMN with Titan to tank WP, with 2 other dps and a healer. It can be done quite easily, but need a couple adjustment in terms of how you approach enemy and how to handle boss. Titan still has to be treated as tank, spur and rouse need to be used as well as sustain (adloquium, regen, stoneskin, cure, etc also has to be casted regularly on Titan). If you are going to do something not typical, best to do it with your FC members and try to have fun doing something different.
Tonberry King add can easily be killed with Bio + Miasma, they will be dead before they can reach you due to the added heavy effect. Toss one ruin at it. If your SMN is having problem with add, it's because they are not well geared (fresh off the level 50s may take longer to get things done).
As a newly 50 SMN with Ifrit weapon & 3 DL pieces (legs, feet & hands) I've found the slimes to be challenging. They're hard to clear quickly without a massive AoE move. Just trying to see if I'm playing it wrong & if any other summoner's can shed light on their experiences here. Or anyone who's partied with two summoner's in that dungeon and what they're tactics were.
I mean, I've been the SMN on add duty in this fight before. It's not hard. by time you get 3/4 DoT's on them, they're pretty much dead. And while you're casting DoT's on one, sick Garuda on the next one. I'm always attacking one & sick my pet on another. They die around the same time. It's actually pretty damn fun.
We cleared with 4 SMN just for hoots one night.
It doesn't sound particularly difficult. Cast your full set of dots on three targets, keep dots up on the final boss. Profit.
Regarding the slime boss, if you keep dots up on the main boss like you're supposed to, it's just a matter of Bane-ing them onto the adds. If that isn't fast enough (I don't see why it wouldn't be) you both can keep perma Shadowflares up in the middle of the room which keeps them slowed and does not-insignificant-damage.
For Slime: First set of adds, have shadow flare up already, case bane/miasma II, then use spur>rouse>enkindle with garuda and they are dead in seconds. For 2nd set use limit break after people stack, 1 shot them all.
For King: I just dps boss, leaving shadow flare up, pop a bio on occasional tonberries to pull them in and add a miasma II as necessary.
2 summoners are great in WP. First time I was in a group had that setup, one had Garuda weapon and the other one had Ifrit weapon. Used limit break on 2nd set of adds on slime and it was dead just as 3rd set spawned. Had no problem with adds on King and burned him down really fast. The funny thing is when we zoned in via DF, we had 2 summoners. One of them instantly said, "this isn't going to work" and left. The replacement was another summoner, and we just went with it and had an awesome run.
Also, I see people shouting for 4 summoner farming runs on the server.
4 SMN runs are where it's at. Flan boss dies before second adds. Shadowflare and bane just melts whole groups of mobs while titan tanks like a boss. I really can't recommend it enough.
This is great information. A lot or tactics I never thought to try. Thanks everyone. Really glad I asked this question now!
what's the problem? if not for speedrun 2 SMRs should be fine unless they're undergeared.
Honestly its easier with SMN.
In the hallways when you have to run away from the huge tonberry you can sacrifice your pet by placing it infront of them so the pt can be safe.
In the last boss just use Energy drain, Ruin 2, and pet damage to take care of small tonberry.
If the tonberry are getting close to the tank use your pet to attack and tank the tonberry so it wont hit the tank, then kill them.. This buys you more time.
If the Knife stacks are high, and the tonberry is getting close to the tank, just have your pet tank the tonberry while setting it on steady after so it wont attack them while waiting for the stacks to disapear.
With summoner you have more options
Couple things..
The adds dead long before they die and you can attack them when they are dead... don't mess around attacking them longer than needed.
The adds do not have to be killed. THe main goal is to keep them off that tank because they will wreck the tank. If your dps is high it is possible to get him down without killing many of the adds.
I have done WP many times with double melee. If two mnks can do the run two smn can.
I play SMN all the time in WP, and usually end up on adds, most of the times I can handle it, but the major problem I face is my pet running off to fight the boss. Which isn't what I it to do at all. But the bonus of SMN is that I can fight 2 enemies at once. Titan's huge HP Pool, can easily withstand the Tonberries. The other things is that most people don't understand while things can't be slept (Like Tonberries, bosses, or their adds) They can be bound. So if things go south in the Jelly Fight, let a SMN use Tri-Disaster and it'll stop all of them in their tracks and just pick off one at a time, until you clear the field.
It can go attack the boss but I tend to use Garuda for the adds and just have it attack one while I attack another then rinse and repeat till you get to the big group, then I just pull all and Swiftcast Shadowflare.
SMN is the one of the best Job to tackle the King & adds.
1. Run in to the centre, use pet CD, Raging strike, apply DoTs on King, Fester. (Focus on)
2. Swiftcast, ShadowFlare in the centre, stand in the middle, Bio to quick-pull adds, depending on how many stack your tank is comfortable with. When adds are around you, Miasma II.
3. Change focus back to King, Fester, reapply DoTs, use some more CD.
4. Wash rinse repeat, and LB the last wave when Stalkers appear. (Or you want to have a melee use LB)
5. Victory.
Other DD will be constantly on the boss without having to worry about adds or Kite. I never have to move around or kite, just stand your ground and go crazy.
I use a similar strat on my SCH as well, while keeping an eye on the Tank's HP. That way both DD can focus on boss.
I am summoner and i handle all the adds on my own without any dot's...the tonbery die with 2-3 attacks.
Though my equip is pretty good. Earlier when it wasn't i still managed to solo handle the adds. So i guess its the player, not the job.
Until I read this thread, I never thought to really bother using DoTs on the adds. I usually just Ruin2, sic pet, and Energy Drain sometimes, and I've never had a problem.
I may start trying some things here to see if I can get it done faster/more efficiently, but my way has been working so far. :)
There are 4 smn pt shouts for wp. You won't get speedrun timing for it but it's a refreshing way of playing it when you're burnt out of speedrunning. Have titan be your tank and spam dots, bane and shadowflare. Mobs die fast enough
This problem is countered by the fact that Bane has a short cooldown and can be used to spread to additional enemies when it runs down-- this is still very effective when you use Contagion. You can spam miasma II if MP allows as well, the continuing dot plus the contact damage from the spell adds up and is worthwhile if you have a large group of enemies. I have no problem doing 15 min WPs on SMN, even with 2 SMN.
The power level of the dots spread is sufficient that SMN would be easily outdamaging other AoE sources if bane spread to all enemies in one shot.
Bulllcrap. You can speed run with 2 summoners just fine. It's not #1 *the fastest*, but it's plenty fast enough.
Is it possible? ofcourse.
Is it feasible for speed runs? heck no
The best make up for speed runs would be:
Warrior - Overpower (does damage compared to flash)
2 Bards - Wide Volley + Army's Paeon / Mage's Ballad
1 WHM - Holy
yes i prefer 2 bards over 1 bard + 1 blm.
really not even worried bout whm using holy either.
the only way blm would be better ... sleep
You can probably beat both WP and AK with four competent summoners. We don't use tanks for those dungeons, we can beat them in no time with our SMN and his pet. People underestimate SMN way too much.
Cleared it with 2 Summoners and 1 Scholar (myself) and a Warrior Tank.
It is better to just rush Tonberry King with all your dots, then using Bane when the current Tonberry waves come close to the boss. That way we ensure there is enough Stacks on the King that the tank can soak, and we keep DPS on the boss to push him enough so you won't get swarmed. Cakewalk, really. I don't see how people get problems running dungeon.
Did not read through alot of the posts, but as a SCH I do the adds in this fight.
Edit: the tonberry fight that is. no cleric stance just aero/bio and ruin2 if needed. i mean i normally have Shadowflare down on the king so if i dont wanna ruin2 the bio/aero will take them down enough for SF to kill them at the boss.
Stop playing with Summoners who don't know how to play their class.
A good summoner has the biggest possible damage output in general in instances with plenty of trash mobs. The only downside is bosses, which in WP's case isn't a big deal anyway.
