No to cowl in end-game! ranting lalafell inside!

Hi,

I know it sound like a trivial complaint compared to major ones (lag and bots are my biggest grip so far) but it is not discussed much and I personally HATE it!

Why put a cowl as a end-game equipment?
Darklight Cowl of Healing and Casting, I am looking at you!

I can tolerate getting some cowl through the game, fine. But in end-game...
I want to see my character! Could we at least have the option to take the hood off?

I created my character for a reason.
Right now I have the DL cowl, I am too broke for Vanya and I am SO FAR AWAY from getting the Mythology equipment (as it will required both body+head to replace the cowl).

SE, please, no more cowl! pretty please!
(or let us take the hood off)

Lots of people seem to have an issue with this. They can't remove the cowl now, but I guess they'll introduce the option to have the hood down at some point.

I dunno, I'm more annoyed by how inflexible two-slot equipment is. They're always a pain to upgrade. :(

As an lalafell, I love the fact that when you talk to someone, they can't look down upon you anymore, because they simply can't see you

This force them to kneel before you if they want to see your face.

I also was tired of the cowl. but because ak, wp cm and praet all give 100 tomes, I do not see whats holding you back to collect 1125 tomes to get the potash needed to get the crafted robes. the rest of the mats cost little. I am cowl free for a darn long time.

Just another reason I say the vanity system can't come soon enough...

Even though they said no vanity system in the petition thread to get it in 2.1... People are still signing it and talking about it.

They won't.

They mentioned that this would require two separate 3D models for each hood which is a waste of memory and development time for something negligible, where-in the case of the /visor for the WAR Helmet and SCH glasses, its much simpler obviously.

In the case of the White Mage AF for example they'd have to go back and probably start the process over again just to make a hood for the second model as the graphics have already been finalized for it, to go back now would be a huge waste of time.


I'd rather have them focus on making new gear rather than worrying about adding a hood option for things they've already made.

The only solution would be to go back and edit/create a zbrush model that has two states an 'Up' and 'Down' hood.
This would be two 3D models, so they' have to back-track and actually remake them again, including re-texturing, re-topologizing, rigging, skinning and weighting and then sizing for each race i'd assume too.

It's a lot of work just because people want to put the hood down when we'll be replacing it with new gear in the next few months anyway.

As it's pretty much the only cowls we use in the game bar level 20(ish), I think its perfectly acceptable to deal with, we can't have everything we want.

Hardly going to see the existing hoods and cowls have an on/off setting. New gear perhaps. The old ones, not so much any time soon. Maybe eventually (eventually = years from now). Best brace yourselves and learn to love it :x

You can save myth tomes for 3 weeks and buy AF2 body ASAP. downgrade your headgear back to AK headgear or buy a Vanya hat (they're not that expensive). then buy the AF2 headgear next week.

It's not so much the look as i don't personally like my head slot choice taken away, so it's a double no for me. Kind of silly seeing as BRD/DRG gets a head and body choice for DL yet tanks and mages do not. I detest them so much that i am not even going to bother with cowl and just wait on a crafted robe. untill myth armor. since the cost of a cowl is around the same (but little less) as the potash needed.

It's so easy to get and so good that it should've been uglier, imo.

EQ2 had the option to show your hood, your normal head piece (there were no forced 2-slot items like the cowl), or no head cover. This isn't a new concept. Again, they were a bit lazy in the design of the game. Will they fix this now? Probably not. They made the same design choice in FFXI as well.

Notice the connection between FFXI and XIV?

Both were developed with console limitations in mind, having both means more memory usage, it's an awful waste of space just to have your hood down when you could be saving that space for new sets of gear in the future. Every tiny bit of memory counts in the development of this game where they have to consider future expansion.

The PS3 is going to prove difficult in future to expand upon just like its predecessor the PS3 with FFXI, so cutting corners like this are essential.

All I keep thinking about when I see cowl is "needs moar cowl bell."

We talked about this in Beta forums.
They said no, like they usually do.
DL gear for Mages are ugly to begin with, which is why I am taking my sweet time.
I think all DL gear is pretty crappy looking...

Yeah, I really don't like this design of items. It doesn't really benefit your character to use a two-slot item as opposed to a chest and a separate hat. It's just a cosmetic thing, except it's a cosmetic thing that severely restricts your character's appearance.

In other words, it's just all around bad. :/ I'm going to wear this adorable Strategos hat and skip right past Darklight to relic gear instead.

OP, you're in for a treat because they showed off another yet to be released cowl (white).

Thought about doing this...but the AF2 HEad/Body combo has significantly less Accuracy than the Cowl. That's not a good thing for a BLM that wants to do coil. Of course you can make up for it with other gear...but that's more Myth farming/waiting.

Hmm... I like this. Would be nice to just remove my hood, and put a hat on my head!! But, naw... I'm cool with the Cowl. Just gotta work harder for AF+1. Efforts must double!!

Guys they remade the whole game in less than two years nevermind them having 10+ years of experience with multiple MMOs and 25+ years in game development. It's impossible to do, I'm sorry you expect a high level of quality from a AAA company with multiple hits under their belt, stop the entitlement right meow and defend them more.

Easiest solution. Just release the vanity tabs already.

Gonna have to agree with Shadowzanon on this one. I, personally, bought the mats for the robe and hat, but there is nothing stopping people from farming for the mats instead of farming for the cowl. If you are the type of person to complain about not being able to see your character's head then take the time to get something that shows it. Add in the fact that the robe and hat give you better stats when you finish melding them and it seems like the obvious choice.

That is less than half the time of a normal game's development process. It's just simple time restraints that prevent everything they want done from being done. The most talented people in the world only have so much time to devote themselves to not matter what kind of advances they could make in other fields. We got around this by melding accessories I think, the allagan body works too if I recall correctly.
