PS3 users can NOT use " focus target " at all ...

theres an option called " foucus target " or " focus frame " which is 1 of THE MOST IMPORTANT OPTIONs in the game ...
PC user can use it by targeting an enemy then press SHIT+F , another HP and status bar of the enemy appers ...
PC users can also activate it by "/focustarget " and "/assist <focus>" macros ...
PS3 users however cant use it or activate it no matter what macro or option they use , or at least thats wut i think ...

Ok two things.

1) THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE FOCUS FUNCTION! It just revolutionized my DPS classes, I was wondering if there was a function like that!

2) Take all of my enthusiasm for point #1 and add it to how strongly this is needed for ALL players! As a picky veteran tank who takes many vacations to be a tank friendly damage dealer (something this game does not make easy), this feature needs to be present across the board!

As a healer, I thought the Focus feature would help me immensely, but that is not the case. I can hardly see the cast bar, and when fighting Tonberry King, I can't see his stacks of Rancor. Needs a bit of work IMO

To address this, there are various adjustments that must be made, but due to the fact that the usage of focus targeting plays an important role in strategy, we are proceeding to make this possible for the PS3 version.

I'd be lying if I said it’s "exactly" the same, but we plan on making it just about 98% the same.

UI-wise, we are using the Windows version as a base for the PS4 version, so the features, including focus target, cross hotbar, vertical/horizontal hotbar display, and multiple chat log window display will be the same for both Windows and PS4 versions.

The default settings for the control mode of the PS4 version will be gamepad mode, but we are planning to support keyboard and mouse mode as well. (We are also in the midst of testing the use of the PS4 controllers track pad to be used like a mouse.)

Naturally, from a UI display resolution perspective, the PS4 has a video card that is capable of 4K display, so you can't really compare a PS4 with a PC that has a top-end video card.

Also, the PS4 version will have features that the Windows version does not, such as play screen sharing and linking with the PS VITA.

We encourage you to choose your platform according to the points that you all would like to place emphasis on when playing.

Just like the PS3, the PS4 was made by Sony Computer Entertainment and they have their own set of software development agreements. It won't be possible to execute add-on software for XIV that does not meet their agreements. Due to this, just like the PS3, user created add-ons cannot be used on the PS4 version.

We plan on addressing extremely popular add-on features by releasing them officially, and instead of distributing them as individual add-ons we will be developing them as regular features that will be added and implemented in patches. :)

Here, let me help you before you embarrass yourself further, peaches.

Definition of allocate:


verb (used with object), allocated, allocating.
1.
to set apart for a particular purpose; assign or allot: to allocate funds for new projects.
2.
to fix the place of; locate.

To allocate to the PS3 version means the limitation to the UI they mentioned only applies to that. PC users are unaffected by that which you are crying about.

I know you are an angry boy, but there are plenty of other things to berate SE for that actually make sense. ♪

And maybe because the PS4 isn't even out yet? That's why no one can get it?

There are tons of aspects of the game where a PC gamer goes "WTF thats supposed to be stock in MMOs, why don't they have it??" -- Prime Example: FC Chests, Teleport Hacks (Client side memory mapping to save processing power. PC users then use a memory editor after finding it in their RAM), Ability locks during GCD to help slow down combat to allow pad users to have a chance, horrible netcode that has to be console capable. Memory limitations of the PS3.. well there you go. Expanding for the PC? Uhm no, they want the same gameplay experience across all platforms same as FFXI, only difference is the texture resolutions and add-ons. When they release DX11 it will be because the PS4 has DX11, not to cater to PC gamers.

Focus target? PS3 users can do this very simple trick. Focus down the one being hit. To find it, you have to use your eyes, once found you can begin focusing it. If two or more mobs are clearly on top of it, your focus target will always be the one with its health going down rapidly. Starting a forum thread about not having a button and how it's ruining this game is absolutely ridiculous. Buy the game for the PC if you want all the "options."

Let's ignore the platform limitations for a moment.

I would like to ask the devs this:

Why do you not allow higher-end PC players to scale up their UI functionality? They have the hardware capability (computation resource as well as the display resolution) to handle things like text-based list inventory (in previous posts it was clear that memory limits and screen resolution is why we are locked into such archaic icon displays), things like side-by-side tooltip displays to compare two items.

Why do you not allow this on higher end PCs? Even if some lower-end PCs can't handle it, there should be higher-end PCs that can easily handle these and still perform better than the lower-end PCs.

Why don't you allow it?

1. You have hard data from client software that the percentage of players with good enough PCs are too few to warrant the development costs?
2. You simply don't have the development resource to do that?
3. You want everyone to have more or less the same experience regarding UIs?

Please, give us a final answer to that, instead of avoiding this question every time it is asked.

This post is just full of foolish things (I won't even point them out because this is just sad). Although I will say:

Everyone is not as beneficial as others, and others are more (If not greatly more) beneficial then others.

I believe the OPs question has been answered. I fail to see why people have taken to using this as a place to vent their hatred towards console players. If we were not here (ps3 players), the game could not survive, and the same can be said of you (PC players).

They're trying to keep the interface and overall game experience as close as possible between the two version. If you think PC corners aren't being cut so that the PS3 can keep up, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Why do you even need the "focus target"? Seriously! I play on the PS3, am a lvl 50 CNJ, and I have not a single issue not being able to use the "focus target". It is beyond simple to select the target of focus, BEYOND SIMPLE! This is just silly!

I you are adding the Vita/PS4 screen share and remote play and all that features for the PS4 version, how about adding support for multiple screens on PC? Like being able to move elements of the UI to a secondary monitor and stuff like that?

You can use that to do keyboard shortcuts to certain things, but focustarget still doesn't work. The macro command also doesn't work. It makes it really tough for healers at endgame.

To watch enemy HP and cast bars when switching off to adds. It's kind of a big deal to players who are playing seriously and need to do things like interrupt party-wiping abilities. I even found it useful on content as early as the last boss in WP when everyone was low-geared. But it's only natural for the average player, with next to no raid responsibility, to see it as nothing more than a secondary HP meter.

So are we referring to what you do by picking a target and pressing X? If so than it's working fine if not idk what ya'll are going on about

Never needed to use the auto focus while in combat and I'm on ps3. I have no trouble knowing what target the tank is on I pay attention to the screen and see which one he is currently tanking. Also another good solution is to get the tank to use the mark function and say which target is first, second, third etc to attack.

It's no surprise that players will attempt to blame things on the PS3. They probably aren't PS3 developers. They are not on the development team. They know almost nothing about how the game functions. They just know that the PS3 has less "memory" and in order to find reason, it becomes the target of their misguided anger.

But a developer rarely blames things on hardware. You risk looking incompetent when someone else weeks later accomplishes what originally you said was impossible.

I don't see any other PS3 developer saying "It's not our fault we can't fix the game, it's the hardware." So may I ask that the developers please stop talking about "memory" because we gamers don't care, we just want these things, like the lack of being able to use focus target, fixed.

No other developer has attempted an MMORPG of FFXIV's scope on the PS3/Xbox 360 before.

Had SE decided to work specifically towards a PS3 release (and damn all the PC players) you probably would have seen a richer experience on the PS3 and PC over all, just like FFXI (because it was specifically developed for the PS2 and ported to the PC a year later). Eventually, all games with expandability will reach their memory limit on a console, and this happens to PCs as well (see: minimum system requirements on any PC game box).

Related to current conversation:

For whatever reason, SE seems to have hit the PS3's limitations early on with A Realm Reborn, and they are trying to work within those limitations just the same as they are currently working within the PS2's limitations for FFXI.
No one be fooled, when people (like me) ask why we keep hearing about memory limitations when related to the PC side of the game, we're not wrong. The PC version is limited by the PS3 version simply because it is not allowed to "expand" further than the PS3 version and, unlike single player games, it is a "constant world" meaning everything needs to be exactly, or nearly the same on all clients.

A result of PS3 limitations is that the PC version never receives the TLC it was promised waaaaaay back when they were starting the move from 1.0. Yoshi even promised us flat out that we would not hear of PS3 memory limitations in relation to the PC version because they were "two different clients." Years later this turns out to be a complete and utter lie. So you should be able to understand why PC users, and especially 1.0 users, are highly disgruntled whenever we hear about "PS3 limitations".

What it really boils down to is that SE does not want to make two or three different versions of the game that would have to be developed separately because they would have to do it every, single, update for every single platform to keep the worlds mostly similar. Doing so would require vast amounts of resources dedicated to development every time an update is planned for the game, and with the schedule of a new "major" patch every 3 months, this is probably looked at as impossible, thus why we get PS3 limitations mentioned whenever we ask for something cool regarding the PC version.

If you play Battlefield 3 on the PS3 vs. the PC, you tend to notice that a lot of elements and textures are missing on the PS3 version simply because they ran into memory problems which required the developers to take out bits and pieces deemed "not necessary." Dice is willing to conform for a game that does not require constant updates because they can take their time with it. SE does not want to do this with a game that will require constant updates until it's death in (at possibly the best) 10 years.

I do not ever want to hear about ps3 limitations in regards to pc again. However, I fear this will not be the end of the flag of deceit and we shall continue to hear about it. I for one play on both and logistically can manage. I would however like a better overall experience when getting back on my pc and besides some higher graphics and more textures every ui feature I have is limited by what the ps3 can do. This was not the case with 1.0 and I as a legacy player fear what is to come. I do not see this ever getting better. Holding out for some changes but how much longer I truly do not know. I am trying to show support and confidence but threads like this make it very hard.

I do not see how things will improve for either side.

SE consider splitting our servers, YES I know, it will separate FCs from their fellow players. I understand how unfair that seems, but there are many reasons to do so.

Lag issues, render issues caused by servers being overcrowded, separation provides relief to both sides.

PC players have said they refuse to party with PS3 players, I know not ALL PC players feel this way, but if some don't want PS3 players around (see thread for examples) why force it? I don't stay where I am not wanted.

Voice chat, fact is most console players don't use Vent etc..again, I know this isn't everyone but MOST. If we were separated, this would be less of an issue, when PS4 comes out PS3 players can use its chat function. Won't work with Vent etc anyways right?

PC players could have graphics tuned high as they want or whatever, no more limitations there.

I could go on, all I know is it should be done and it won't and that, is a shame.

"high end" video cards have been able to push 4k resolution for quite some time now. It has gotten to the point where any serious benchmark to compare graphics cards doesn't even care about 1080P anymore. It is ALL about the 4k tests. The PS4 graphics card is about on par with a GTX 580 AT BEST (although you will likely see a bit better performance since the OS they are running is severely stripped down and such, but theoretical performance that is where it is at.)

Turn 2 ADS - Passing the Allagan Rot. Clearly you have all either NEVER done Turn 2, or have never had to be responsible for passing it around... There would exist 2 workarounds to this problem... Everyone moves the rot from themselves to the next person in line... since you see your own timer, you know when it is about to expire... problem there is, either A: you cannot ever give it to a healer (not possible since you need at least 5 people to pass this around), or B: you would have to have outrageously amazing healers and tanks to have them be able to interrupt one of their heals to pass the rot. The second workaround would be using a voice communication program (nevermind that PS3 players would need a laptop or phone to run something like teamspeak, to "workaround" this...) and people would have to call out their own timers, to tell someone when they need to move. Problem here is, that fight is already having a lot of people talking... people calling out the interrupts, tanks calling out the provoke/aggro switches... we already have a lot of people trying to talk over each other in this fight, and you want to add in the mix the other half your group ALSO trying to talk to call this out? why? when you can just tell someone to set the person as their focus, watch the timer and then move.

There are plenty other useful times to have focus, but this is the one time where I would say it is required... or at the very least HIGHLY inconvenient... to the point where you are GOING to cause needless wipes trying to workaround this.

Dictionary =/= Translator... Just because I say "Hello" and an english dictionary picks up on that word, doesn't make it automatically be "Hola" in spanish. The translator is there specifically for communication with people who don't speak the same language as you, not as some master "auto-complete" dictionary... although, I can understand using it for that, and also the confusion.

I think you are confused on this. It isn't needed for the sake of which mob the tank is targeting as we have mark target for that. It is used to keep an eye on a target's cast bar, buffs, debuffs, stacks, etc...while targeting other things.

One of the easiest examples to grab a hold of on this would be in Wanderer's Palace on the Tonberry King. Although a lot of over geared players will opt to just burn down the boss, many people still need to approach this fight as it was designed. One DPS takes down adds which each add a stack of rancor to the boss. Each stack will increase the damage the Tank will take when Everybody's Grudge is used. With the focus target bar, that DPS can see how many stacks of rancor are built up without having to switch back to the boss.

Why everyone feels the need to get heated up over a reasonable request is just childish. The PC version has this feature, the PS3 players want to benefit from it as well...they bought their game & pay their subscription just the same.
