Great, the bots have become smarter

Either this is a very bad glitch or the bots are now fully invisible. You cant see there name, or even target them, if you get you're cursor in the right spot it comes up as the magnifying glass but still cant click on them. Meaning they seemed to of found away to remove there character graphics and only have there coded entity present.

Cant even report those bastards now.

Haha bots should be categorized as a beastmen tribe and we should be able to wipe them out. LOL

It appears they are not invisible, but rather under the map. This one is porting mob to mob killing stuff, but staying under the map. I was only able to target him by using the target-of-target unit frame of a mob it was attacking.

Yes, they are under the map, same as they have always been. This isn't new.

I just thought of the perfect way to deal with bots. Now I myself hate anything to do with PVP, but for this I would make an exception. Open World PvP, you see a bot, kill it. I doubt very seriously they have a bot that could effectively defend itself from another player. Also works for those D-Bag players, who don't have the common courtesy to see you farming mobs and decide to start trying to steal kills. That is all.

have you made a video of someone gathering with stealth on? not sure you can select them either. might also explain why it takes so long between nodes since stealth is walking speed.

when you consider these bots are below or behind terrain, how do you intend on getting line of sight on them to kill them?

I'm referring to the ones you can see and target, the crazy invisible ones, no clue.

They're under the map in order to most likely stop people targeting/seeing their names to report them. Had a bit of a shock in Central Thanalan when this happened last week. Fortunately due to the geography in certain areas their names were visible above ground and I was able to report them.

Though last night in the Shroud an archer was under the map and appeared to be running through attacking every low-level creature it passed. If it weren't for the densely packed squirrels trying to attack through the ground while spinning by at velocity like a critter tornado you wouldn't know what was going on.

SE should look in to hiring some of these guys so they can maybe finally get an idea how the RMT always seem to know their software better than them. Seriously, some of these bot designers are quite intelligent and always seem to know how to circumvent programming in this game and manipulate with so much ease, yet it's increasingly difficult for SE to fix these loopholes, implement efficient counter measures, or simply ban certain RMT activity that all of us so blatantly see on a everyday basis.

Then again, maybe some of these RMT could be jaded ex-programmers of this software, just a thought since it seems they know their way around it so well.

Devs made a response in the recent letter from the producer live. It goes into some detail. You can find it in the dev tracker where they posted the full Q&A from the Live Letter. Its on the first page post #6: Q: In Regards to Cheating

Target the target's target?

Unfortunately, in the case of gathercrafting, that means you need to have the class active to target the nodes.

Yeah, if they screw up (or maybe SE patches in random coordinate offsets -- seems to be the implied solution), the names will be above ground. You will also see them floating if they offset the wrong direction. Here's an example:

The last game I played used one of those third-party security programs: X-trap. It was a pain in the djigga for some people (who couldn't get past it) but it practically eliminated all bot programs, as well as all legitimate gaming hardware (keyboards, mouses, etc.). I highly doubt SE will go in that direction though.

Also, while the PK idea is interesting, people would just use it to kill defenseless gatherers.

Could be nice if perhaps, they put in abyss worms under the ground, similar to goblin bounty hunters. Have them have a gigantic radius, one hit insta-kill, draw in, etc to anyone underground, ignore the rest.

Their primal could just just be a giant, obese middle aged man on his laptop. His ultimate attack would be the site names hurtling towards you taking 20gil away per hit

A stealthed player just appears ghosted. They're fully clickable and their name tab is there. To all intents and purposes a stealthed player is only hidden from mobs, not players.

Not saying those ones in particular aren't bots, mind, but most characters running around with names like that are more likely to be roleplayers.

Good point. On my server, I've yet to see a single player character using a Dunesfolk Lala naming scheme who isn't a bot, so it's easy to forget. Then again, what human being in their right mind would willingly call their character "Pufufu Pufu"?

My lala uses the standard naming scheme. All my characters are using either the auto-generated, or the third party name generation tool. It is part of the fun for me. I also use the name generator to find in character names for my chocobos.

SE: "We'll look into this matter. Please be excited"

Lots of legit players bot, they're just not going to bot in the low end stuff. they usually bot the high end 'unspoiled" spots, or whatever the timed nodes are called.

man, at this point I dont even care anymore. They are like spiders in your house, you know they are there, you step on one too freakin late she already laid her 10,000 egg sacs. I am just happy we all have our own nodes when gathering. As far as the mobs they are kill idk how they would deal with that. :X havent needed to farm for materials yet.

WoW automatically boots you offline if you go under the map (and resets you to on top of it in the process). Sure would be hard to mine under the map if you can't be online for it.

Really SquareEnix Fix your Game.

Their names still show up in the chat log though, I don't think they can hide that.

We'll have the RMTs to thank when the bots become self aware and decide to rebel

Game over man, game over.

Sorry to bump this, but you can track invisible gathering bots using the player search. I just reported one with that method, from the five botanists in central shroud one was without an FC and had nothing but a lv10 conj and a lv20 botanist.

They could just make it so that if you're under the map, your character dies. Easy fix and keeps people who legitimately fall through the world due to bugs from getting stuck.

Someone at SE needs to really step up and answer 1 simple question;

Why is there no sanity checking on position/coordinate instructions from the client side?

There is no reason why teleportation requests to coordinates that are NOT on a "white list" of Aetherytes and quest based target locations should be honored, in fact such requests should be flagged for suspicious activity.

Nor is there any reason why *any* coordinates that place a character under the map should be allowed by the system, these too should be filtered by some level of sanity checking, and requests to use such coordinates from the client side should be flagged as suspicious activity.

In conjunction with that, the game client should not be capable of requesting such coordinates itself, which would leave only bots making such requests.

Another thing that would help is having the system do a quick calculation on point to point movement, if the distance covered is greater than can be covered using sprint or a mount, it should be flagged as suspicious activity. This would almost immediately detect warping.

I get that these kinds of check are an overhead at the server side, but when you place so much emphasis on the server side to prevent client side cheating, it bloody well obliges you to secure the client side against cheating as well!

SE: Make sure too zoom in the camera so you can see their names.

I can't wait for the new bots that teleport around from player to player attacking them from under the ground then teleport away under the ground when their hp gets low. That would be rather hilarious.
