Why is the WAR Relic so pathetic?

For a weapon that's supposed to be the epitome of bad-assery, crafted by killing the legendary Primals I don't understand why they opted for this puny little thing and not only is it small, it has no detail. It's just some plain old Axe.

Going from something like the Titan Axe to the Relic is just pure disappointment. I hope the Allagan Axe isn't as small/bland.

It looks cool to me. Its shape/modeling isn't extravagant, but it's detailing is amazing.

Garuda's Scream looks a million times better than Bravura.

Actually, Garuda's Spine looks way better than the Artemis Bow with those fold-out wings.

In general the Relic weapons look kind of crappy compared to the Garuda weapons. Squenix's idea of progress, I guess.

Just because it's spikier and fancier = better. In my opinion, Bravura has an elegant and unique design. It isn't suppoused to be extravagant or elaborated. It's just a heavy as fuck axe that a legendary Warrior used. That's it.

I *believe* that Bravura actually does have something unique about it: it's reflective. I don't believe that there are any other weapons in game that have that visual attribute (Holy Shield is reflective, but that's a shield).

I will concur that it seems a bit small. I like the overall look of it, but I just kinda wish it were *bigger*. The thing should be big enough to be intimidating, not smaller than most axes you'll find while leveling.

It kills things, hardly pathetic in my book. The gold trimming is really intricate, and I think that's cooler than spikes and such.

I took my lesson from Bleach with a note on a minor character named Abarai Renji: It's hard to take one serious when their "pissed off/high power" energy pouring out is pink. The simplistic design kind of fed into the warrior mentality of "I don't care if it looks stupid so long as it gets the job done" minus the gold filigree, but the edge (could probably be a bit larger) polished to a mirror sheen was a nice touch to the weapon.

Still though... could have gone a bit more red on the +1 to match the AF2 and make the allagan a bit less desirable, but that may play a part as well.

You give me a pink axe with the right stats, and Ill wear the hell out of it! I'd still take the 2nd best pants if it was a subligar that was BiS though...

Pink is a light shade of red, and is known to lessen the feelings of anger and aggression.

So you see, getting +1 to your Bravura isn't improving the axe at all. The upgrade is just adding a pink glow, which tempers your own rage at possessing such a strange color to your instrument of death. It's a limiter for the safety of you and everyone around you, as well as an amplifier. If the upgrade didn't add the glow you'd be like.

So not true. There's no way Garuda's Beak looks better than Gae Bolg.

Thyrus sure is prettier than any of the Primal weapons, as well.

Though I'll admit Bravura isn't particularly iconic. See Gae Bolg at a distance and you know it's a Gae Bolg. See the folded Artemis Bow and you know it's a pimped out Bard. Meanwhile, Bravura doesn't have any unique silhouette or the like that makes it recognizable. Sure, not all weapons can have Frills of Justice™, but Bravura is a teensy bit too plain, in my opinion. :p

Everytime I see a WAR with +1 I cry. Not only is it pink.. but it has skillspeed... come on clearable turn 5!!

The Bravura is carved out of a single piece of meteorite metal with the weight focused into the head for a greater striking power.

It's far from pathetic.

Someones class had to get stuck with the crappy looking relic. Just another thing PLD > War at :P.

It's not the size of the battleship that matters... It'S the motion of the ocean.

But, I Feel the Bravura is not a s awesome as it should look considering its mythological origins.

there was a mid-40s GC axe that was a half-circle when sheathed, then flipped open to form a full-circle when you pulled it out; it even made a cool, mechanical sound, that's been my favorite so far. While I do like the Brav, it was slightly disappointing.

This. So much this. Give me the crappiest looking Relic in existence for all I care, but for the love of christ give it Accuracy instead of Skill Speed.

I've seen and held meteorites. If that thing is carved full-form from one, it weighs several hundred pounds, if not over 1000. not to mention, meteorite metal is basically second only to wootz steel for badass metals to make things from, both for properties(elasticity WITH hardness, holds an edge without shattering, and thanks to natural nickle deposits in the metal, it won't rust) and for rarity.

So basically, it may not look the best, but it is certainly the most class signifying weapon, who else could even lift one off the ground but a true warrior?

Uhhh... whut? This explains it well. Meteorites, even those rare few that are nickel-iron meteorites, aren't as metallurgically sound as *real* iron and steel alloys that are man made, and, if you're talking about smelting out the impurities of meteoric iron so that it's *not* a terrible material, it just lost anything that might have made it weapon made of "meteoric iron". On top of that, meteoric iron isn't really appreciably heavier than a similarly sized piece of normal iron. The reason why it seems heavier is because pure iron is *really* heavy; steel is lighter (and with good reason).

The only reason that the phrase "meteoric iron" has gained the connotation for amaze-itude is because it's got mystical and mythological overtones. Meteorites come from the sky in a blaze of glory so they're attached to the gods/supernatural since humans couldn't fly until recently. It's an awesome origin story for a legendary weapon, but, in all honesty, it would make a terrible weapon, just like a bat made from the wood of an oak split by a bolt of lightning.

There's a reason that the most awesome swords ever made were made with Damascus/Wootz Steel: it's a super strong, super refined alloy. There's also a reason why only early ironworking was done with meteoric materials rather than smelted iron: when people learned to refine metals, they learned to make them stronger as well as more common.

War relic is one of my favorite relics I have been pushing my brother to get it xD. With the AF2 top its super sexy.

Be glad it isn't the SCH relic. A plain white binder looking book. Its plain but kind of classy.

Half the power of an axe comes form sheer weight on impact, like a sharp hammer. so a heavier axe is a better axe within reason. and that edge has been meticulously cared for, possibly reinforced with a better material for cutting.

I think I may have confused that meteorite metal for Damascus steel, which is just a refinement of wootz steel. Made in Damascus. Since lost to time, but there are some who are working to find it again. Who knows, maybe we can all go on a relic reborn quest IRL soon lol.

It's not just weight. It's where the center of balance is. Because axes are meant to be horribly lopsided and focus upon using centripetal force to cause a massive blow, the closer to the head that the center of balance is, the better. The best you could hope for is to have the center of balance *right behind* the point of impact (the center of the crescent). It's for this reason that you *wouldn't* want to have the shaft made out of metal: it would pull the center of balance away from the head, decreasing the force of your blows.

Of course, if you really wanted to get wonky, you could design a weapon that is hollow but filled with mercury. Since the mercury would flow, while you are holding it steady, the mercury would flow to the capstone on the shaft, causing the weight to be more centrally balanced; while you are swinging it, the mercury would flow to the head, causing weight to shift to the outside, allowing for heavier blows. For that, you'd actually want the shaft to be made of metal since wood would cause the mercury to seep.

Matter of taste tbh..

I for one find the Garuda weapons ugly, my goodness: weapons with wings..

I love the WAR axe, just an axe you'd see some legend swing with. I do agree with SE's lazyness btw, their gear design is horrifying, but that's another discussion I guess..

Maybe that's what Bravura actually is already. It's so expensive on the materials side of things that Geralt couldn't afford to make it look pretty.

Who needs purdy looks when you have an effective weapon? Simplicity is beauty.
