wow, nice first post .... >.>
To answer the OP ... I used to be a heavy D2 hardcore player. I got to level 76 in PoE, only to die to a terrible desync. I died in Act 2 inferno vs. Belial before 1.03 in D3.
Point is, Hardcore is for ARPGs, not MMORPGs.
Granted.
But farming for tomes take 5x as long.
Yeah right.
Ahh, good 'ol hardcore.
I remember when I was playing Diablo 3, back before I realized how bad it was. I had a hardcore demon hunter. Got her to act 2 hell. Then, I rubber banded like hell (no pun intended), game froze for 10 seconds due to server lag, and when it resumed I was dead.
I uninstalled immediately and never played it again :)
I'd hate to be the person that dies during a dungeon speed run. Having to start all over again cause noone raises anyone in a speed run.
You guys don't have to play on the server if you don't want to...Obviously.
Myself and many others will have a blast playing this game mode.
;)
Umm no....
Online games are not for Perma death.... Dieing to any of the following reasons
1: 90k Error
2: Internet goes out cuz some drunk idiot hit telephone pole
3: Dog ate through mouse cord
4: etc etc etc
Would suck with perma death, to many uncontrollable variables.
you know...are there any mmorpg with perma death out there?
i was watching .hack/sign and it kinda made me want to play one of these mmos
Or maybe you and the rather glaring minority of players that'd actually bother can save SE the effort and resources and delete your own characters upon death.
That's all well and great, and I'm sure I would to. The point I was trying to make, is
- Why do you think you couldn't use the RMAH in D3 on a hardcore char?
- Why do you think there has never been any hardcore servers in any successful subscription based MMOs? (I say this because there might be in some obscure MMO I don't know about)
And the answer to both those questions, is companies don't want to be liable for crap you invested time into, and potentially money into, and then lost due to whatever reason. It's a legal thing.
They would get hit with lawsuits and GM calls like "Spent 100$ on my sub, played for a year, then lost my character to LAG" and stupid things like that. People in certain parts of the world sue over the most trivial of things, and actually win.
cha-ching, we have a winner
I don't get why people can be against this idea.
It would be a server option not forced upon you.
You don't have to play it!
Let the rest of us that do want to play this game mode have our fun!
So many party poopers these days.
Wait, isn't a lot of content, like the primal trials, designed to kill you over and over until you're lucky/practiced enough to get it perfect?
Has ANYONE ever completed *ALL* the primal content for the FIRST TIME without ever dying ONCE????
Not against the idea but I'm definitely against SE putting remotely any priority into this, over other much more important things.
Oh really?
Blizzard couldn't do it for D3. And I know how you fanboys love to praise the almighty Blizzard. It's not as simple as that when it comes to the almighty dollar.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the hardcore mechanic. But when people have invested money into a character, the whole dynamic changes.
Love when people realize they don't know what they are talking about and resort to deflective posts like this.
The funny thing is, if SE implemented the complete opposite of this: a carebear easy-mode server that gives you permanent bonus stats upon death, I'd be willing to bet that server would have a much higher population than your suggestion.
On perma death servers, do they just keep re making characters when their chars die? Because otherwise wouldn't people just unsub when their chars die?
I have my main character on the server exodus. If they ever came out with a perma death server that character would be my 2nd main and if it ever died I would still have my first main on exodus to continue playing. Also I would make another character on the perma death server and start over again and try to get further.
Why not just form a permadeath linkshell and run whatever with other like-minded players?
A dedicated server will only lead to rageposts and frustration later on should you die due to a lag issue or disconnect during an encounter you would have otherwise survived.
Like I have already said playing permadeath on a server without perma death is pointless.
The idea is that if you see high level players or players with gear from dungeons and what not it is an achievement.
If you did this with a group of people on a normal server people will have high levels and gear no matter how much they suck/die lol.
So please stop posting your awesome ideas of deleting your own character on a normal server.
It doesn't work like that.
Thanks.
People that can Res will be making money
/sh 50k For a Res
Online games are the only way to play perma death.
You have a whole community of players all trying to become stronger.
High level players will be rare, geared players will be rare, even crafting becomes 100x better.
Perma death takes everything that's normal on an ordinary server and makes it mean something.
I sincerely doubt there are enough people who want this to warrant a server just for them. Most niche ideas just can't justify the resources needed to support them.
ETA: I would also point out that ARR is not set up in any way with that type of play style in mind. Besides the expensive equipment, they would have to adjust just about everything to suit this play style. In other words, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, because this will never happen.
Logging in and seeing 100 lvl 50 players standing around all wearing the same gear is completely underwhelming.
What don't I understand? The poor sod dies in a speed run, rest of party soldiers on without them leaving them for dead because waiting for weakness from a raise would 'take too long'. Player clicks the 'You're dead' button, character's gone forever. From that point on it's either reroll or quit the game forever.
Just like how a perma death makes everything more meaningful your FC will play a large roll in your success. Most dungeons would be done in full FC groups not leaving your character in the hands of a stranger.
FC would make names for themselves based on the level of content they clear.
Nice try OP... nothing against this type of thing, but I'd rather not the Devs waste resources/time management into something like this. It would be a very minority who would even consider doing it in the first place.
To all of you who keep suggesting just delete upon death on a regular server, it isn't the same effect obviously.... but either way I do not support this for SE to try and implement into ARR.
Why can't you just delete your char every time you die rather than waste dev time on something very few people would actually do?
Just delete it and its the same exact thing.
