Best of: Titan's pugs

Ok guys, i have been running titan's pugs (hard mode) for a couple of dozens of hours now, and i got to see some pretty amazing stuff, things i would not have believed to be possible before. I bet you have your share of stories to tell, so let use this thread to record the cream of the crop.

My top 3 would be:

-The guy that ran from bombs past me, the tank, who was standing on the very edge of the arena. Cartoon style. No landslide involved, just regular jump off the cliff.

-The guy that ate 3 landslide in a single fight. not successive fights, mind you. He survived the two first by having ltos of room behind him. Third one killed him.

-The three healers that left me (tank), on the second mountain buster, at 800 hp. Popped rampart well ahead of time, waiting for some heal. None coming, i popped sentinel. Nothing still, and i died a gruesome death. All three healers were alive and with plentiful mp.

You're a lalafell they probably didn't see you.

I had an interesting experience just now. Out in Thanalan, mining away i get a Pm - not an FC message or linkshell broadcast, a direct to me, private message, asking if I wanted to go heal titan... well damn straight I do! - This'd be my second Titan run and I want to get the fight down, particularly phase 5. Half a dozen wipes later, the leader (who invited me) in raging away:

Leader: "omg, don't you know phase 5"
Me: "I've watched and read the guides, sure - first time hands on"
Lackey: "Great, so you're just here to be carried, fucking casuals"
Leader: "Why do people sign up when they've never been to phase 5"
Lackey: "Didn't you see the sign in the shout saying exp players only, fuck off"
Me: "Wait, what? - I was invited directly, I didn't answer any shouts"
<Lackey has left the trial>
Me: "Wait, what? - I was invited directly, I didn't answer any shouts"
<The person you are trying to contact has blacklisted you>

I'm sure there's a lesson in here somewhere... but I'm not sure it's me who's in need of learning it.


tl;dr: Got a blind invite to a party, then kicked out and blisted because they didn't check if i met their own requirements.

I just got my kill after about 30 attempts. Sad to say that I don't have any real stories of foolishness, but I'll tell you this: There very almost nothing like the feel of earning that kill for the first time.

Titan pug where there's a naked summoner, using his pet to attack titan as soon as everyone finished watching intro.

I am soooooo tired of trying to kill titan already, still no go. Yet the other day we ran a titan with myself and a pug blm. Since when would you use Thunder 1 with physix on yourself and think you could get a win? Those were the only things I saw cast in a 2 minute periodby the other blm. ugh, I really hate titan.

My first kill was with FC, but we had 2 pug Dps, a Bard that was constantly dead, ate every landslide and one of our FC healers was having bad latency and swallowed just about every plume the poor sod. Me, i was tanking, which tbh is fairly trivial, just watch what Titan does, and pop a Cd when Mountain buster is due, i do recal getting a little scared watching my health dip pretty low frequently, bearing in mind im a PLD, getting 2k hits from Mountain Buster then Tumolds smacking into me straight after certainly made sweat, resisting the urge to yell on mumble "Nico! Heal me you lazy Mofo!" and the raid leader, whom is a very good RL friend of mine, trying and failing to reassure me and telling me to calm down, whilst getting some colourful and inventive expletives thrown back at him.

what was this thread about ... oh yeah, Suicidal pug members, had a few of those, was amusing at first, but became old pretty quickly.

First time using a controller. I absent-mindedly put Replling Shot on my A button, but second set. First set has Heavy Shot on A. Accidentally hit RB, and ended up backflipping off the edge of the ring :p

My favorite is when a tank accidentally backs off the cliff while trying to find the 'sweet spot' to avoid all bombs in phase 5. I've seen many tanks that do this. It's hilarious every time.

I'm usually second on hate list, so Titan comes immediately charging for me. "Nooooo, tank... what did I do to deserve thiiiissssssss" XD

So far the only crazy story I have from Titan DF is a pld mt still wearing af1 body bitching everyone out for being a 'lel fail grp' xD

You see, you need to kill titan in order to enter Titan. Hardcores know that it's a bug that people can enter without having previously killed it.

I SWEAR I know the exact BLM you're talking about! I was in Cutter's Cry and was with a BLM (THM?) who would cast nothing but Ruin, then like one fire and one blizzard. All within a 2 minute time span, three spells. And RUIN, a spell that not even Arcanists/Summoners want to use!

Hey now, Ruin is a filler spell for when our DoTs are rolling and Fester isn't up yet. :P

But seriously... players who only use THREE spells? I feel like they've gotta be trolling you at that point. Who does that? >_<;;

We had this losing spree of 10 or 20 attempts, and there was this summoner who wasn't putting DoT's on and getting hit by every landslide. When someone questioned it, he said "My macro isn't working".

I felt bad, but I had to remove him. 3 runs later, we beat him.

Then there's the SCH's who remove to put up sacred soil before geocrush and say "You don't even need it to survive".

Then there's the tank's who don't understand to keep defensive buffs prior to MB.

I also hate people who blame lag for getting hit. Learn the rotation and lag is meaningless.

Wow so immature, I know end game communities is bad, but this? It just a step up to a new higher level. This is why I try to ovoid PUG as much as possible. People need to calm down and know this is just a game. The name calling is really not necessary. I'm doing Titan soon and I hope I don't encounter this kind of people.

You will if you go in with that attitude. Titan is the second piece of content that really shows you how bad people are (first being Qarn's first boss).

People are lazy and expecting to be carried through Titan like they've been carried through everything else. It doesn't work, because unless you're very skilled, it requires everyone to pull their weight.

Hmmm..what kind of Attitude should I go in as then? I always watch Videos and Stradegy whenever I do any of the Hard Mode Primal Fight. I don't even attempt anything until I know I have the necessary gears to do it as. I usually invite a couple of Friends first and fill in a few to do a couple of practice.

Am I suppose to turn into Elistism and name calling people if they are first time and make mistake? I have people join in DF with level 40 weapon and artifact with level 30 jewelry for Garuda Hard Mode. But I still try my best to win the fight for them, if it's not possible I tell them to gear up first then leave.

I find every fight is possible, it required team work, cordination and everyone to follow each other. Name calling and putting someone down will never work. Unfortunately, this is what it is like with DF which is why Titan Hard Mode will never work as DF most of the time.

i agree, im at titan hm myself full DL execpt 1 ring is hop and my shield is some 44 random green, but im told it is fine to go with, i have ifrit weapon as i have yet to get the garuda one. the trouble i run into is when i go to position titan in the north spot for my(tank), i get half the dps jsut going full auto on it before i get to land my 2nd shot. i myelf have not finished this fight, but i have watched several videos and a few from tank pov so i think i understand it, but ofc exp is best learned by doing. my first time in i was tanking it up to just before p5 whitch im told is the start of the fight. im a hard worker and fast learner but the way people act and treat people is jsut crazy. they expect u to be experts and have 100% perfect everything really. but the reall funny thing is its the dps and healers in the groups i go in ifrit/garuda/titan hms that mess up more then i but i get the most grief. go figure, i guess i should sjut find a FC of people to play with lol

Some people don't have patience for people that feel entitled to be able to complete something, just because, without any effort. A lot of the people that try to do Titan in PUGs that I've often experienced are people that do not wish to learn from their mistakes, and for some of us there is only so much patience to employ.

And, as you put it, it is a game, and a game should be fun. I have a static group that one shots titan anytime any of us need to get our relics for alts. It took me a while to find the people capable, but once I did it was definitely a huge relief from having to deal with annoying noobs who just continually die to the same old shit every attempt. I just don't have the time, or the inclination to play with those types of people, and more so I shouldn't have to, and neither should other people who are willing to learn, and put in effort to get their relics.

Go in with what attitude? Is there something wrong with Zaiken not wanting to deal with jerks in duty finder parties? Some people are just beyond rude for no reason. I asked the healers to remove the determination debuff left by being encased in Granite Gaol yesterday (and fully explained the effects), and they both got really defensive and said I was accusing them of causing the group to wipe and refused to do it. Then one of them said my low dps was causing the wipes, and could not comprehend why me hitting for 100 damage a spell for a minute at a time after being gaoled three times in a row could have anything to do with my damage. Never mind that she also died to plumes every fight...

That doesn't even beat the AK group I had where I was called bad and told that I'll never be more than a below average player because I didn't know you could step through psychflayer for Void Thunder III on my second time there on paladin (like a week or two after game release). And no one even died the entire run either.

There's just no reason to be so rude and insult people like that. Give people advice and help them become better players. Don't queue up with duty finder and expect every player there to be seasoned veterans or make zero mistakes. If you make a shout group for Titan or something and someone isn't pulling his/her weight, explain why it's a problem and ask them to leave or remove them. Someone struggling with mechanics for a fight like that isn't necessarily 'lazy' or expecting to be carried. :/ Bullying leads to players unsubbing from the game, and fewer players leads to fewer content updates. I don't think any of us want that.

Only one that really sticks out in my mind. A late night DF group that had a Gladiator and a super under-geared WHM (2800HP?) who was constantly in cleric stance.

I still believe I got trolled.

Happens to me all the time, not only on Titan, but everything. It's like the healers just up and decide that the tank isn't important enough to cure anymore

Lets just say I saw my fair share of DF Titan HM horror stories, but just one particular incident always stands fresh in my mind.

I decided to off tank because the other tank asked me if he could MT because he found it easier. Well to sum things up, you know how when Titan jumps and lands he knock's a ring of land off the stage right?

Well Titan Jumps, the MT forgets to move, so we're all just standing there watching him, expecting him to move. Well didn't happen, land fell and the Main Tank went with it, while we all just watched.

For the "exp'd" people, the issue is new people who do not/can not learn. Of course, there are plenty of people who respond well to advice. But there are also people who refuse to take advice or put in their best effort. And while running with people who are receptive is fine, it's the repeated encounters with the people who do not accept advice that "tests their patience." In the end, eventually, it's easier and less stressful to just not bother with new players at all.

For the "new" people, I will say this: there should be more incentive for exp'd people to be nice, or at least not be mean. In FFXI, without duty finders, your reputation on the server meant a lot. Everyone is new at some point. And you really don't want to go around needlessly pissing everyone off if you wanted to do endgame, when eventually it'll probably come back to bite you.

Still IN battle 'circle' thingy, Titan proceeds to smash in our faces...I mean, people still not even out of CS...no one engaged him in battle.
We wipe before we even get a chance to attack.

PS: this seems to only happen when you enter right after a clear. And I probably should report it as a bug. But it's so stinkin hilarious, we can't help laughing like school-girls each time it happens to our FC.

couple of other bosses come to mind , actually if I told you what happened no one would believe me . Some of the stuff I have seen levelling a paladin and a warrior in DF only since getting lvl 15 would boggle your mind.

I understand losing patience with duty finder fails, but I don't know why anyone joins a Titan DF run expecting a win. The chance of getting a full group of ideal jobs AND having players that all know the entire fight is very small. A lot of people there are probably just trying to learn the fight--in my case, I have curtana and omnilex already, but I wanted to get a feel for the fight on BLM before my FC does Titans on Wednesday.

And as I showed at the beginning of my post, I've had groups with players refusing to take advice too.

I guess after 7 years on FFXI, I'm just not used to a community filled with this many players that bully other people around in groups. DF stuff sorta leaves you less accountable for your actions, as chances are you won't even see those players again unless they play on your server.

Grabbed some random person's screenshot off google~ Granite Gaol has a black debuff icon, and the determination debuff is the red one next to it (Frost Avenger is the player affected in the screenshot). You can't remove the determination down until after the player is freed from imprisonment. But yeeeeah, it really sucks and makes the player useless for 60 seconds if it isn't removed with esuna/leeches.

I've yet to meet a single tank that knows you can almost always dodge his tableflip if you flash at the right time :(

Thanks. Yea I think I remember seeing that when I was doing Titan with a friend but didn't actually check it out since at that point I didn't know titan had a debuff. That could very easily be why we were having so much trouble with the heart phase x_x

Had a group of 7 running an FC mate through titan so we used duty finder to fill the last spot (tank spot). We one shot it and the number of "thank yous" from the random PUG tank was awesome. Was his lucky day!
